How Should George Shot Lennie

When George shot Lennie he made a better future for himself not having Lennie screwing up his jobs. With both the times of George messing up it has made it hard on Lennie to for himself and Lennie. Since lennie won’t be with George anymore he can keep a job. After a while George and Candy could maybe even gather enough money to get a little house. Also when George killed Lennie he took away any suspicion that was against him for the death of Curley’s wife.

George killed Lennie for Lennie's better interest, he started with a mouse, then a puppy and then he killed Curley’s wife, who knows what he would have done next. He would have gone to prison either way, and if he had killed again then he would have either gone to prison or been killed by another person like Curley wanted to

In John Steinbeck’s novella, Of Mice and Men, George had to make a tough decision when he killed his best friend, Lennie, to save him from a more painful death. The story takes place during the Great Depression in California, and follows two unlikely friends, Lennie, an extremely strong yet mentally disabled man, and George, who is much smarter and the leader of the two. George and Lennie are migrant workers, and after losing their previous job, have come a ranch to find work.

Curley’s hatred toward Lennie was led not only because Lennie killed his wife, but because Lennie humiliated him by breaking his hand. George also does the right thing by killing Lennie because he stopped him from causing more deaths or harming others

Right after, Lennie says “An´ have rabbits. Go on George!” (Steinbeck 14) This line uses syntax, and it helps convey Lennie’s excitement for he and George’s future.

In the book Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck, I believe that George did make the right decision to shoot Lennie, because of the relationship that they had. Previously learning from the experience Candy had when he let someone else shoot his dog, George knew that shooting Lennie was his job to do. In chapter three Candy says "I ought to of shot that dog myself, George. I shouldn 't ought to of let no stranger shoot my dog." , (John Steinbeck, 1973, p.58), this really impacted Georges decision on giving someone else the ability to shoot him.

One reason George should not have killed Lennie because everything that happened, was an accident. Lennie did not mean to kill Curley’s wife or the puppy. In the passage, Of mice and men, lennie says “I don’t want ta hurt you” (Steinbeck 91). This piece of evidence from the passage shows that Lennie did not mean to hurt Curley’s wife. Lennie only meant to keep her quiet , not kill her.

Lennie with his simple mind, always gets into trouble. This time, Lennie gets himself in a bind once again, that George can’t save him from. George decision to kill Lennie in the story, was due to his responsibility, sympathy, and love for Lennie. George’s decision to kill Lennie was out of sympathy for him.

In this story Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, I do believe that George was right to kill Lennie. Some people will say that it was wrong for George to kill Lennie But to be honest with you—there was no escape, and I say this because a little bit after George hears “a man’s voice call up from the river, and another man answer”(100). So knowing that George heard voices from up the river probably means that Curley and his men where near by. I also strongly believe that if George didn’t kill Lennie, the others would’ve done much worse things to him. I like to think of it as a question.

Unfortunately everyone has had to put down an animal at one point in their life, but is it acceptable to put down a fellow human? In the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, as readers, we are faced with this question. Everyday thousands of animals are put down because there is no hope of them having a family to care for them, but can we ever truly justify putting down a fellow human being because they require special care? Unlike pets or other animals, humans possess the ability to communicate clearly with others and reason with them. In this book George, Lennie’s “friend”, ends Lennie’s life, only with no verbal warning to Lennie.

Another reason is If George did not kill Lennie others would have killed him. However, the other side might argue that Lennie did not mean to kill Curley’s wife, thus he deserves to live. And then about a year later when Lennie accidentally killed Curley’s wife, the whole farm was after him. George shot him in the temple of his head for a quick and painless death.
