How Should George Shot Lennie

In John Steinbeck’s novel Of Mice and Men,George and Lennie are two guys that are heading to their next job. Lennie is a giant and forgetful guy who does not always know what he is doing. George, on the other hand,is the opposite. He is short and knows what he is doing when it comes to work. Lennie was dangerous to everything around him and he also liked to pet soft things. While petting Curley’s wife's hair he accidently killed her. George shot lennie so it would be less painful. George should not have killed lennie because they had plans for the future, and Lennie did not know any better as to what he was doing. One reason George should not have shot Lennie is George and Lennie had plans for the future. George says, “With us it ain’t like that, We got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a darn about us” (Steinbeck 14). George tells Lennie that they have a future that will be fulfilled because they have hope in each other to complete the American Dream. Lennie says, “I wisht we’d get the rabbits pretty soon, George. However, Lennie did not know any better as to what he was doing when he caused trouble. George tells Lennie, “Lennie if you jus’ happen to get in trouble like you always done before. I want you to come right here an’ hide in the brush” (Steinbeck 15). George wants to make sure that Lennie needed to go to the brush when he got into trouble while being on the ranch. Lennie spent more time in the barn with his soon to be little puppy.Lennie says, “Why do you got to get killed? You ain’t so little as mice. I didn’t bounce you hard” (Steinbeck 85).
