How Is The Roman Empire Still Relevant Today

Roman influences are visible all around us today. One of the most important lessons that our culture has taken from ancient Roman would be our roadways. Romans were the first to use roads that gave our society the formula for construction that allowed rainwater to drain off. They used numbered signposts every Roman mile, which indicated such things as the distance to the next town and which construction team had built the road.

The Roman Empire lasted about 500 years from about 47 BC to AD 476. It started in Italy and eventually extended throughout Europe, western Asia, and northern Africa. Julius Caesar became dictator for life and was assassinated by the senate, however this began the transfer from a republic to an empire. The Roman Empire grew over time, getting bigger. Although it thrived, it fell around 476 C.E because of major issues.

Ancient Rome and Han Dynasty China were very influential civilizations in global history. Both the Roman Empire and the Han Dynasty of China had major impacts on the world today. However, after evaluating each one's contributions in military, art and architecture, and religion to world history, it is shown that the Roman Empire was more important to global history. Firstly, Ancient Rome and Han Dynasty China were both very advanced for their time in the military field in different areas. One example of why Ancient Rome was advanced in the military was because of their organizational skills.

The Roman Republic government contributed to the development of the democratic principles because the romans developed and its government eventually dividing into three branches. The Roman Republic had three main groups, patricians, Magistrates/Consuls Censors/praetors. The three main groups were like the democratic principle separation of powers. The Roman Republic had its “Rule of Law”, but the Romans called it the Twelve Tables. The democratic principle Representative government was also in the Roman Republic government, but was differently portrayed.

The Roman Empire was one of the most advanced cultures of its time. The grandeur of Rome has had abiding effects on the societies of the entire world. Evidence of the brilliance and creativity of the Romans can be found in many modern countries such as the remains of roads, walls, baths, basilicas, amphitheaters, and aqueducts. These exhibit the technological advances made by the engineers and architects of the Roman Empire. Many modern civic buildings have been built using the Romanesque styling.

The Etruscans had ruled over the Romans for hundreds of years. After they were free, the Romans established a republic. This was a government in which citizens elected representatives to rule with their interest in mind. This government had a Senate composed of three hundred men. The members were voted on to life terms.

The Roman Republic was upheld by a republican constitution and, similar to the Athenian government, gave more power to the citizens in the decision making process. The Roman Republic constitution on the other hand also valued the rule of law and implemented checks and balances to prevent one single person or class from taking control of the republic. The republican constitution had a significant impact on the creation, maintenance, and success of the Roman Empire. By implementing the importance of the rule of law, the Roman Republic was able to create the groundwork for a successful republic to ensure that political leaders were going to be held accountable. They created the Senate which established a representative government to debate on

The Roman civilization is one of the most significant and influential civilizations in world history. The Roman Republic originated in the 8th century BCE and lasted for more than a thousand years. The Roman civilization made significant contributions to all fields, including law, engineering, architecture, and literature. This left a significant mark on Western culture that still influences us today. Rome was a very strong empire because of their military, rulership, and adaptation to different political systems.

The General Assembly and Senate established a sense of importance in Rome. The General Assembly was made up of Plebeians, and the Senate consists of Patricians. The terms General Assembly and Senate are two of many terms still used in the US Government today. The Romans were led by a king who was approved by the senate and a vote of the people, which is also displayed in the US Government. This is displayed in our presidential elections.

Ancient Rome left tremendous legacies such as technological advancements, religious beliefs and governmental structures that shaped the world today. The Romans conquered many territories and took on their cultures as well, in particular the Ancient Greek culture. Ancient Greek civilizations played a major role in the history and development of the Ancient Rome civilization. The Ancient Greeks influenced the social structure, religion and military strength of Ancient Rome.
