Different from the other serial killers’ stories is the story of Macbeth. Macbeth was born around 1005 in Alba in central Scotland. His father, Findlaech MacRuaridh, was mormaer of Moray in northern Scotland and his mother, Doada, was a daughter to Malcom II. Macbeth was sent to a Christian monastery and educated by monks when he was 7 years old. His father was killed by Malcolm and Gillecomgain when he was 15. Gillecomgain was killed by Malcolm II’s order in 1032 because he killed Findlaech. Macbeth was elected mormaer of moray and married Gillecomgain’s widow, Gruoch, and adopted her son. Malcolm II died on November 24, 1034, and Duncan MacCrinan, his son, was elected king a month later. Macbeth defeated Duncan and his army on August 14, …show more content…
He ruled and encouraged the spread of Christianity and life was prosperous and peaceful for 17 years. Several good laws were enacted by Macbeth including requiring officers of the court to defend women and orphans and another that allowed daughters the same rights to inheritance as sons. There was a rebellion by Duncan I’s supporters in 1045 and the earl of Nothumbria, Siward, attempted to dethrone Macbeth in 1046 (24). Earl Siward gave Duncan’s son Malcolm, who had fled to Northumbria after his father’s defeat, support and they led an army against Macbeth. They defeated him in the battle of Dunsinnan but Macbeth remained king until 1057 when he was killed trying to return to Moray which left Malcolm to become King of Scotland (25). Shakespeare’s play about Macbeth differs quite a bit from the real …show more content…
Another difference to note is that he does not have a son in the play. He starts off the play as a faithful and brave man but later becomes consumed with the guilt of his murders. Murders that he might not have committed if it weren’t for the influence of others. People such as the witches who told him prophecies of him becoming king and his wife who provided ways for him to make the prophecies true. When Macbeth first hears the prophecy, he questions if fate will make him king or if he must act, but when he tells Lady Macbeth of this, she encourages him to act. She told him to kill King Duncan so he could take his place, but Macbeth said he felt guilty because Duncan was a good man and deserved better. Eventually he does kill Duncan but immediately feels remorse, guilt, and even hallucinates. After Duncan’s murder, Macbeth kills the guards as to not have any witnesses. The he begins focusing on killing Banquo because the prophecy said that his sons would one day be kings. He persuades some assassins to kill Banquo and his son by blaming their problems on Banquo. The assassins manage to kill Banquo but his son, Fleance, escapes. Macbeth begins hallucinating about Banquo’s ghost, driving him insane. He then visits the witches again and finds out they were against him the whole time. He had Macduff’s family killed while Macduff was away but people found out and they
Because of Macbeth's crimes to rise to power, he dies at the end of the play from his fight with Macduff. Later, Malcolm is crowned
So he made the decision to abandon the throne and go to England. While the death of King Duncan come to a shock to everybody, Macbeth purposely tried to frame Malcolm and Donalbain so that they would be arrested and Macbeth would get access to the throne as the new king. The evidence shows that
Shall with my cousin, your right noble son,/ Lead our first battle. Worthy Macduff and we/ Shall take upon’s what else remains to do,/ According to our order” (5.6.1-6). He encourages his army to be courageous against Macbeth and gives out responsibilities to Siward and Macduff. With this plan, Malcolm rids Scotland of its tyrant and builds his leadership skills as the new future king of Scotland. Malcolm’s plan was extremely successful and led him to the defeat of Macbeth, making him the new king of Scotland.
Macbeth in history as well as in Shakespeare’s play was king of Scotland, both historically accurate Macbeth and Shakespeare’s Macbeth gain the throne by killing Duncan but do so in very different ways. Drawing any more parallels between the two stories is limited mainly just to names and place from this point forward most likely because of William Shakespeare’s far from unbiased point of view. Historically accurate Macbeth in my not so humble opinion is the far better and much more interesting story. Historically accurate Macbeth was born the son of Findlaech, an earl of moray, and Doada, the second daughter of Malcolm II.
But the throne did not go to his family. Macbeth and Banquo were very close to King Duncan and respected him. Granted it was hard for Macbeth to come up with a plan to annihilate Duncan, but he was persuaded by his loving wife to do so. In the beginning you see that Macbeth is very noble and
The current king of Scots Malcolm II, son of Kenneth II, was considered more ruthless than the rules themselves at the time. He did not have a son to inherit the throne after him so he choose his daughter's son, Duncan (Cavendish,2004). During these times the successors did not have to be direct son's of the king; they could be brothers, grandsons, nephews, etc. In 1034, Malcolm was killed in Glamis and Duncan succeeded.
Malcolm and donalbain flee, and macbeth becomes king. In act three: Banquo is murdered. Macbeth no longer needs lady Macbeth to help him keep the crown so he kills her. The resolution of this story macbeth is that Macbeth learns that Macduff is not born of a woman and is then killed by Macduff, and Malcolm is crowned the new king of Scotland and peace is restored to the kingdom.
"Macbeth's character has been so vividly pictured and immortalized by Shakespeare's play that separating the man from the myth is a challenge for any historian. What can be deduced is that he is much more likely to have slain Duncan in battle than to have murdered him in his sleep while a guest in his own castle" (Duncan and MacBeth). On the one hand, he successfully maintained Scotland's freedom resisting his more powerful neighbors' territorial ambitions, as did Macbeth. On the other hand, his traders sold produce across Europe, so he did not isolate his small nation from the world beyond. Similarly, Macbeth trod the European stage dealing with the Holy Roman Emperor and the Pope, visiting them and forging alliances.
The Tyrant beheaded in Battle Macbeth, the late King of Scotland, has been killed in battle by Malcom, the son of King Duncan of Scotland, after the invasion of England army that took over the Castle of Dunsinane. The castle was found abandoned by its citizen and royal guards and soldiers after witnessing the approaching army of England, leaving only one person behind. This projects the loyality and gives us hints to what Thane of Glamis was worth of. The former tyrant of Scotland whose name only brings death to mind.
His cousins Malcom and Gillecomgain killed his dad and later Macbeth kill Malcom's dad Duncan. After Macbeth killed Duncan, he ended up becoming king (14). Macbeth throughout the play wanted respect and had the desire for power. He was always paranoid, so he felt that he had to keep killing. Macbeth’s mental state went from being good to horrible because he was hungry for power (13).
Macbeth started as a man who answered to his wife, he became overconfident and was fully consumed in everything that was happening around him by the end of the play he was slowly losing his humanity. Macbeth was a play full of tragedy which leads to death in the end. Greed and ambition helped Macbeth stride for power, which drove him to act the way
Macbeth killed the good king Duncan, his two chamberlains, Banquo, lady Macduff and her children. However at first Macbeth refused to kill king
Macbeth didn't immediately try to take the throne from Duncan, but overtime he openly raised an army against his rule. Duncan lost the battle to Macbeth, and due to his two sons being out of the country, Macbeth gained the power of rule, but was later overthrown by Malcolm III, Duncan's eldest son.
While all of these people were obvious serial killers with motives and psychologicalissues, the question still poses if the real Macbeth was a serial killer as Shakespear suggestshe was with his character in the play. The true MacBeth was born into a Scottish familyaround 1005 and died in 1057 due to being killed in battle, but not the same type of battle asShakespear’s Macbeth. Although the Shakespearean version of Macbeth’s character was amurderous serial killer, the true MacBeth was surprisingly not this way. At the young age of7, he was sent to a monastery to be educated by monks. There was not much else documentedabout his young life during this specific time, except for the death of his cousin,Gillecomgain, in 1032.
In this same year, the current King of Scotland Kenneth III, is murdered by his cousin Malcolm who then claims the throne. Fifteen years later, Macbeth's father is murdered by his own cousins and Macbeth vows that he will someday get
