In his address he knows that he is the first president and that the he has shared responsibility of the president and Congress to preserve and start tradition. When introducing this topic, he states that, “one of the expedients of party to acquire influence within particular districts is to misrepresent the opinions and aims of other districts,” implying that if a person only focuses on what they can see and what directly effects them in their little town, then people may be able to use that as a tool to gain more power. Leaders will have the ability to say whatever they want about the surrounding towns, and their people will never know the difference. It is very important that people stay aware of what is going on not only in their immediate area but also they must be aware of what is going on, on a much broader scale.

The precedents that Washington set were the greatest of all, but the best examples he mentioned were critical to America. Washington was the first president of the United States. He had served two terms, and warned future presidents not to run for a third term. He believed it would make citizens believe that the government is in power; but truly, the states and people are in control. Based on George Washington’s observations, he warned the people to stay united, stay neutral, and follow the constitution, in order to keep the U.S. stable.

I agree with Washington’s view on permanent treaties with other countries. I agree, because times change. President Washington wrote a farewell address to the United States and in the farewell address, he speaks of dangers such as unity, debt, and neutrality. Washington cares about our country and won’t stop caring until the day he dies. This is why he wrote the address so he can help us even after he is no longer president. His first warning of danger to the nation is about unity. He stresses how the unity of government, “ is a main pillar in the edifice of your real independence, the support of your tranquility at home, your peace abroad; of your safety; of your prosperity; of that very liberty which you so highly prize.”

I thought this was interesting as now in modern governmental policy the legislative government is much larger and the president has become more of a figure head for the county. Washington however was known for participating in several of he duties that now are spit up into several factions of political power. Washington believed that the US needed to begin going westward looking for wealth and land in order to supply the nation deficit and the influx of population. I though this was very interesting as I never though that as far back as Washington there was already an inch to explore and conquer the west. There was a need for new wealth and the west seemed to be the answer.

The Farewell Address talked directly to a nation and more specifically, the remaining Founding Brothers. He warned Jefferson and Adams to put aside their party's agenda for the best interest of the nation and to not allow a two-party system control the nation because he believed it may divide the nation and in modern America, we can see how true his words are. Washington believed the nation’s strength depended on the strengthening of the Union and a prominent central government, something he worked towards in his presidency. It is also in this Farewell Address, he set the precedent that lasted until Franklin D. Roosevelt. George Washington, the first president of the United States, gave his first inaugural address to Congress on April, 30,1789. He gave his speech after he was sworn into office. The president's speech went over his emotions and concerns about his election as well as his promises as president. Washington starts off his speech by expressing the anxiety he felt when he was told about his election. He states in the first paragraph “the addition of habit to inclination, and of frequent interruptions in my health to the gradual waste committed on it by the time”.

The final piece of advice given by George Washington is to stay neutral when it comes to foreign affairs. The country should not be too loyal to one particular country, and should not neglect any other: “Observe good faith and justice towards all nations...to lay hold of slight causes of umbrage... likewise, a passionate attachment of one nation for another produces a variety of evils(4th paragraph). If the country is too loyal to another, they could trick the U.S. and benefit from our mistake. The people should treat all countries equally so there is no conflict.

George Washington’s Farewell address purpose was to publicize his decision not to seek out a third term as President. The Address started by proposing Washington's motives for deciding to leave office and expressed a little regret for not being able to step down after his first term. Washington said "choice and prudence invite me to quit the political scene, patriotism does not forbid it. ”(310) He was tired of the stress that public life put on him and was ready to return home.

Washington knew a strong Constitution had to be in place, which is why he was responsible for the Constitutional Convention. The effects of his inaugural address and presidency really mattered, given he was the first of our many presidents. George Washington proved he truly cared for the American people and the country. He took charge and changed what had to be done, because his speech altered the government and society as we know it today; our Constitution, our executive and judicial branches, and our Supreme Court. While he did emphasize the need for a Constitution, he was not the only one responsible for it’s making.

A lot of the problems and concerns he was dealing with during his presidency are still relevant in todays day in age. George Washington’s Farewell Address does a great job highlighting the problems he fears will affect the future of our country. The four areas of his concern were unity, not devising into stronger separate political parties,

There was one more main idea president Eisenhower wanted to get across to other countries and that was that together the world is stronger. Globalization was very important to the president he wanted to have stable trade route and help enhance the well being of the rest of the world. Of course the president wished to also have relationship with other countries that was not just one sided he wanted other countries to help if when they could. During his inaugural speech the president said, “Assessing realistically the needs and capacities of proven friends of freedom, we shall strive to help them to achieve their own security and well-being. Likewise, we shall count upon them to assume, within the limits of their resources, their full and just burdens in the common defense of freedom.”

Before and during George Washington’s presidency, he felt as if he was unqualified for the job and in fact was worried about his presidency. Washington’s farewell address was meant to thank his audience and friends for support through his presidency even though he did not feel as he was the right person for the job. Headed for retirement, Washington penned the address to an audience to assure them that the new country would still prosper even without his leadership. It was meant to give his audience peace about his stepping-down and understanding that his retirement was made possible by an immense amount of supporters and friends who cared for the country.
