Rhetorical Analysis In April 30, 1789, President George Washington gave his inaugural address in Wall Street, New York. Beginning with the words, "...summoned by my country whose voice I can never hear but with veneration and love..." Washington uses personification as he describes the American people that called out for him for his help and his being in office as the whole country with nothing but positivity. The country had just voted for him, not to mention the 69 presidential electors. As he channels the people 's emotions through his address, Washington continues with the words, "..a retreat a retreat which I had chosen with the fondest predilection, and, in my flattering hopes, with an immutable decision, as the asylum of my declining years--a retreat which was rendered every day more necessary as well as more dear to me by the addition of habit to inclination..", Washington then proves repetition is in order, as he uses the word "retreat" more than once and supports it with backup for a deeper understanding to signify how he heard the American …show more content…
Washington knew a strong Constitution had to be in place, which is why he was responsible for the Constitutional Convention. While he did emphasize the need for a Constitution, he was not the only one responsible for it’s making. Other indivdiauls involved in the creation of the Constitution were James Madison, Benjamin Franklin, and not to mention the 59 delegates who attended the Constitutional Convention, presided by our very own
In his address he knows that he is the first president and that the he has shared responsibility of the president and Congress to preserve and start tradition. Washington realizes that since he is president he is called to help preserve "the sacred fire of liberty.” Washington knows that he must help preserve the republican form of government so he can create new tradition. George Washington’s Farewell Address was published in a newspaper in September 1796 and became widely reprinted throughout the United States. In his Farewell Address, George Washington announced that he would not be running for a third term in the 1796 presidential election then explained why and gave some very sage advice for keeping the country afloat in the future. He mainly warned off three things: don’t allow regional differences to divide the country, don’t allow political parties to cause a rift in the country’s unity, and don’t become too close with any foreign nations. George Washington’s Farewell Address is as pertinent today, if not more, as the day it was published in September 1796. George Washington started off his address by
George Washington’s responsibilities as the first president of the United States did not end with his presidency. Upon his departure, Washington decided to write an address to warn the citizens of what dangers might threaten the nation in the future and what to do to protect them from division and war. George Washington wrote about staying together as a nation, staying neutral in world affairs, and following the rules of the constitution and why these three ideas would help our nation persevere. The first thing Washington talked about was to preserve the union. Washington stated that it was important for the United States to stay together and he explained how the people could accomplish this goal.

He fist sent a copy of the document to Thomas Jefferson and General Lafayette, not present during the convention, hoping to gain their support off the bat (Mary Stockwell). He continued to write letters to other political leaders in hopes for their support of the constitution. He clearly expressed his reasoning for why the document would be so important to the states. Washington knew the harm that the Articles of Confederation had wan wanted to make sure that the government wouldn’t become powerless. As the great leader he was, Washington also sent his reasoning’s to the individuals who doubted it most (Mary Stockwell).
Presenting to the 1895 Cotton States and International Exposition, Booker T. Washington delivered his most famous speech, "The Atlanta Compromise Address". In this speech Washington shares his belief that his fellow African Americans and other former slaves should make the best of what they have and to strive to excel in the positions and jobs they already occupy rather than continually fighting for. He insists that the people of the white race also do not see what they have around them. He wants the whites and blacks in south to realize that they need each other and should act in ways to coexist. To convey his belief, Washington uses rhetorical strategies such as the following: the three rhetorical appeals, allegory, and repetition.
