Henry Ford had a profound impact on United States history by laying the foundation for the twentieth century. Ford was born on July 30, 1863 in Dearborn, Michigan. During his early childhood he was fascinated by machines and at the age of 16, he left home and found apprentice work as a machinist. This was the first step for Henry Ford in creating a significant impact in United States history. In 1893, Henry Ford became the Chief engineer for the Edison Illuminating Company and with his acquired skills throughout his life; he created a gasoline-powered horseless carriage called the “Quadricycle.” Later it will be known as an automobile or car we use in the world today. With the assembly line, it allowed the creation and greater production of cars. The most successful car created during Henry Ford’s time was his own car, the acclaimed Model T. The Model T was the most successful because it was affordable and provided a new mean of transportation. With an affordable mean of personal transportation everyone at that time will soon have an automobile. In fact, the use of automobiles is present throughout American history and all the way to present day. To be able to meet the demand, Ford used assembly lines which caused the creation of standardized, interchangeable parts within a car to make production faster. Additionally with the use of standardized interchangeable parts, Ford also created large production plants allowing mass production of the Model T. With the creation of standardized, interchangeable parts and large production plants that could mass produce, it revolutionized the American industry. For example, with Ford’s idea of mass production, he indirectly helped the U.S. win WWII by giving the government the ability to mass produce tanks, armored cars, jeeps, engines, guns, and ammunition
