In the mid-eighteenth century, many European powers wanted to expand their influence to other parts of Europe and to the rest of the world and also to gain new territories. To accomplish this, they had to overcome many issues. They had to make alliances with the natives of the new land, cooperate in trade with other powers, overcome diplomatic negotiation, and lastly make peace agreements. The natives of the new land would play a key role in establishing European powers.

The Age of Exploration was a time of trade and the New World. Although there was trouble the exploration had an impact on the Native Americans, Africans, and the European expansion. New technology and weapons, the Middle Passage and The Columbian Exchange were three major developments that took place. The Age Exploration positively impacted the lives of the people in the colonies. New technology and weapons were all things that made the exploration possible.

Although he never really accomplished what he what trying to do, Henry Hudson was still a very driven and persistent explorer. He was a leader to many other explorers, and he also helped inspire interest of America in Europe. In Hudson’s lifetime, he set out on four voyages. For three of these journeys he was partnered with England, and for the other, with the Netherlands. Henry Hudson is a great example of an explorer who kept trying even with adversity.

The first Europeans came to South America and the Caribbean searching for the East Indies and stumbled across a new world in which they would ravage and dismantle the Native people’s previous way of life. The explorers came with the goal to spread Christianity, but also sought the fortune that the new land would bring European voyagers stumbled across a vast landscape full of flourishing societies, not just roaming tribes, and they saw nothing more than opportunity for their own greed. This greed would lead to the once self-sufficient people becoming slave workers before eventually disappearing from the region altogether. Trade routes were one of the most important characteristics of the global economic system. During this period, there were several trade routes that resulted in the discovery of new lands. In document 1, it shows Europeans exploring along the coasts of Africa, North America, South America, and Asia. This happened during 1420through 1542. They used trade routes around the Cape Verde Is., the Cape Horn, and across the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, and the Indian Ocean.

Early modern interactions between various European entities and indigenous peoples of the Americas, Africa and Asia focused on resources and power. The Europeans had a drive for control over territory and ultimately over the people in these various regions. The French, English, and Dutch sought to displace indigenous people and establish colonies in North America; however, the Spaniards and Portuguese focused on South America and modern-day Mexico. In the early 1500s, two powerful Spanish conquerors displaced and destroyed the Aztec and Inca Empires, but did not stop there. The Portuguese sought to overtake African kingdoms, and while they made alliances, they were quick to destroy said alliances when it benefitted them.

The ships he used were named Discovery, Hopewell, and Half Moon. His goal was to find a new route to Asia in his first trip. Finally, Henry had a total of 4 journies in his career as an explorer. Henry Hudson had many different voyages and was sponsored by many different people. Throughout Henry Hudson’s voyages he encountered many obstacles. One of them was ice. When Hudson set off for his first voyage across the North Pole, he had to get beyond the ring of ice around the Arctic Ocean.

The Atlantic world from 1492 to 1750 experienced economic and social transformations due to new contacts among the major continents that bordered the Atlantic Ocean. Western Europe, Africa, and the Americas saw dramatic economic and social changes caused by the slave trade, the increase of trade, and the Europeans “discovery” of America. The Atlantic world experienced great Economic changes created by the new global connections established between continents that allowed the expansion of trades, slave trades, and the claiming of land. Due to the new found connections the participants of trade all over the world brought home new goods, mainly from Europe, and materials previously never seen before or goods they were in need of.

Document 7 mentions that Europe had to compete with it’s neighbors when voyaging across the globe, and even before they started to expand. This could have motivated European countries to explore faster and beat out other countries. As a whole, Europe had a desire for power, which it could gain by exploring (Document 7). When the Spanish came to Mexico and South America, they spread smallpox. This lead to the death of Huanya Capac, the Incan leader, which in turn set of many wars of succession.

European exploration was brought on by the three G’s: God, gold, and glory. People wanted to spread Christianity whether it be Catholicism or Protestantism, while explorers such as Cortes were looking for gold to get rich and glory to get famous. This age of exploration was able to occur because of technological advances such as the caravel, cannons on ships, more advanced cartography, and the magnetic compass. The impact exploration had on the natives of the New World was changes in the natives culture, enslavement of the native people, and a massive population decrease.

The end of the fifteenth century is attributed as the time period in which Christopher Colombus “discovered” the Americas. Although he was allegedly the first European to have reached these unknown lands at the time, many sought to reach the new world, for a variety of reasons. Most of those people could be divided in two: the settlers and the conquerors. In North America, there were more of the former, people looking for a new home where they could rebuild their families and lives. In Meso-America, however, the goal was to exploit the lands in order to produce and extract new goods which they could trade.

In 1445, he sent a navigator named Alvise da Cadamosto on an expedition in west Africa in 1456. He sailed up The Gambia River to the Gene River and tried to trade with the Africans, but did not succeed. In 1458, Henry The Navigator sent Diogo Gomes on an expedition that reached Cape Palmas. Henry The Navigator died the same year the expedition returned in 1460. Portugal had become a strong sea coping nation with extraordinary income from sea trading routes because of Henry The Navigator.

The European expansion into the Western Hemisphere in the 15th and 16th centuries was a great advance for human civilization. Three reasons was an advancement of the human race is that it laid the groundwork for changed politics, new economy and created views on other cultures. This is important because the expansion of the Europeans into the Western hemisphere was one of a kind at the time. The expansion brought new people, culture and ideas and that and this laid the groundwork for a new government.
