Nationally, guns are used in 68% of homicides, which helps explain why America experiences more gun homicides than any other modern nation in the world (Hirsh 86). If America wants to make a real change, then its legislators and constituents must have the will to improve its current gun control laws. By recognizing the lack of any meaningful laws, society can start focusing on the failures of the political system. Currently, there are twenty-two thousand gun control laws in place (Hirsh 86). Due to the large number and minimal impact on America, it appears that these laws are ineffective and in need of a restructuring focused on the gun retailer. Trayvon Martin was unreasonably shot and killed by a neighbor who thought that he was armed at the time. At that moment, the decision of whether or not Trayvon Martin lived was entirely up to the neighbor. Was the neighbor prejudiced? Since others were not at that scene, they may never know. However, what Americans do know is that the World felt the emotional effects of the neighbor’s decision. While it may never be known what exactly happened the day of Michael Brown’s death, it could have been easily prevented. Americans may never have had to witness the tragedy. If Michael Brown did not have access to the gun, then his life may have been saved. Tighter restrictions would have made sure that the gun was never sold to him in the first place. There would have been no black market to sell him the gun either, as the retailers would have been forced to comply with more restrictions. On February 26,2012, a seventeen year old by the name of Trayvon Martin was walking home from the store. As he was headed home a man spotted him from his window his name was George Zimmerman. Zimmerman called the cops and told them it was a suspicious guy walking through the neighborhood. Trayvon was wearing a hoodie he was slowly walking because of the rain and he was black. Zimmerman then told the police that Trayvon was looking around at all the houses and hes looking at him.
Where an african american child was shot and killed, only, he did nothing wrong. Even if it was a small mistake, this caused uproar and outrage. The citizens of Ferguson started mobs and burned down shops, while the police fended them off as well as they could, but there was not much government intervention, which is why without a doubt, this kind of outrage may start again in another town. But, from small towns to big cities, the issue spreads. In San Bernardino, two people massacred coworkers at a party and fled the scene, even if the police did their best, people were still upset that this happened, which is totally understandable.

In the summer of June 13,2015, a 28 year old female by the name of Sandra Bland was found dead in her cell. Three days before her death she was pulled over by Sheriff Glenn Smith and she was sent to the local Waller County jail in Prairie View, Texas. There are two sides to the story, starting with Ms. Bland was commited suicide and the the argument against that was she was killed by one of the sheriff (Stanford, 2015). She is not the only black female who experienced police violence. She is added on the list of black women who were violently brutalized by police.
The murder of an innocent, young man, not bothering anybody. He was 17 years old. If you notice somebody walking at night with a hoodie on, would you let the police deal with it or take it upon yourself not knowing what that other person is carrying? Trayvon Martin’s murder happened at a Gated community in Sandford, Fla. He was walking and wearing a hoodie at the wrong time.
This shooting of Oscar Grant suggests that america has not gotten past post racial. Two innocent black men were shot by police, one on a crowded subway platform, the other just outside his parents' suburban home. One died, the other lived. Just three weeks earlier, a seventeen-year-old black high school athlete had mysteriously died during a traffic stop in Lucedale, Mississippi.(1 Delores Jones-Brown). Three black people got shot, this also violated civil rights.
It 's been about a year and a half since 18 year old Michael Brown was shot by Officer Darren Wilson. This ordeal still holds a lot of controversy. I, myself believe that Wilson 's action were unjustifiable and way worse than just unfair. Regardless of whether or not Michael had stolen something, shooting to kill was unnessecary. It was also unacceptabe and disrespectful for his body to be taken away hours later and in a cop car.

However, because of nationwide protests and a reinvestigation of the death’s evidence, Zimmerman was eventually arrested and charged for the death of Trayvon. On July 13, 2013, a jury consisting of six women acquitted Zimmerman of the charge of second degree murder for the lesser charge of manslaughter (CNN, 2013).
