I selected Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) specialty track so that I could make a change in healthcare and the community. I want to be able to educate and care for others the way that patients would like to be cared for. Opening to the patients and educating in preventative care can be the key to some of the positive changes that our community needs. Since medicine is an evolving profession healthcare providers should keep up with the most up to date information on how to care for their patients. Family nurse practitioners are a key component in our healthcare today.

Role of Family Nurse Practitioners: Case Study The shortage of primary care physicians has been a problem in health care system and will continue to the next decade due to increasing of aging population. According to National Governors Association (NAG) (2012), the growth of the aging population combined with the initiative of the Affordable Care Act, the problem of primary care providers shortage is worsening. Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are educated and prepared to perform primary care services as physicians do. More importantly, studies showed that NPs’ role as primary care providers achieve equal or higher patient satisfaction rates (Evangelista et al., 2011, Albers-Heitner et al., 2013).

Veterans Affairs Nurse What a blessing it is to have the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA) providing multiple healthcare services to our heroes, our veterans! To be afforded the opportunity for our heroes to attend and be treated, at little to no cost, for a wide range of ailments from the common cold, to a mental health disability, or for the possibility of a healing surgery is a well-deserved and a wonderful privilege. The geographical area in the state of California is in a community with patients having health disparities and it is an underserved population. Healthy people 2020 identified patients with healthy disparities as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, personnel living in nursing homes with disabilities, individuals living in rural areas, and women households with children (Centers for Disease and Control, 2015). Introduction Nursing is known as professional discipline (Donaldson & Crowley, 1978). Nurses shortage is one of the significant issues in current nursing in Singapore and also in other countries. According to Buchan et al 2008, nurses shortage has a significant connection with a country’s historical staffing levels, country 's resources and it also estimates the demands for healthcare. Nursing shortages are unmeasureble, and they may be defined as professional capacity standards from an economical view.

QSEN Competencies allow nurses to improve the safety and quality of existing healthcare institutions by continually understanding the KSAs – knowledge, skills, and attitudes. These competencies include patient-centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence-based practice (EBP), quality improvement (QI), safety, and informatics. The following paper discusses the above competencies and evaluates how systems thinking affects the quality and safety of the regulators and accreditors. According to Case Western Reserve University (n.d.), nurses should integrate patient-centered care values by communicating sensibly and respectfully while addressing patients' needs to other staff members.

In the leadership in care delivery course, we were assigned to a hospital to perform clinical hours and provide care to four patients. Additionally, the purpose of this paper is to explain and provide examples on how our patient care included the concepts of Quality and Safety Education for Nursing (QSEN) competencies, delegation, handoff reporting, and a reflection of the clinical experience. Quality and Safety Education for Nursing (QSEN) Competencies QSEN consists of six competencies: patient centered care, quality improvement, teamwork and collaboration, safety, informatics, and evidence based practice. To provide patient-centered care, I had to educate the patient when administering medications on why the patient was taking the medication and side effects. Care had to be individualized with each patient and it included providing respect with his or her decisions in their care.

The factor of increasing complexity of patient health require higher education for the liability of safe practice, thus is an agreeable requirement for employers to place upon the employees. Acquiring a bachelor’s degree is only an improvement for everyone.

Healthcare professionals play a role in quality management process by taking accurate patient information using the electronic health record system. Technology with professional knowledge of nursing improves quality of patient care and general quality management process in the healthcare.
