Webster Dictionary defines freedom as a “political right”. To me, freedom is much more than that. Freedom gives me and the people of America the right to do anything we want; it allows us to be ourselves no matter where you come from, or who you are. Unfortunately, America has not always been this way; people of different races were treated like trash on the sidewalk. Frederick Douglass had a first-hand experience to this treatment, and he knew what it was like before America allowed everyone to actually be “free”.
Freedom lives and breathes in everything we as Americans do. The freedom we have today reminds me of where freedom does not exist yet. There are many countries where the citizens have heard about our freedom, but cannot experience it for themselves. We can only hope for those people right now, and dream of a world that’s free.
The amount of freedom that America gives to us goes mostly unnoticed in this country. Citizens of the United States have freedom of speech, the right to bare arms, freedom of religion, technology, a good education system, and democratic government. In our country's constitution, we are allowed to say what we think about the government without having any punishments. Since we have this right our government is able to hear the public’s opinion and do what is most beneficial for the people. In addition, the government allows us to protect ourselves properly by having the right to bare arms.
Ever wondered why freedom is so important to America? Why we need freedom and why some people take advantage of it? Or why we have rules with the freedom we have? Freedom to me isn’t just a word, it’s a way of life that everybody uses, sure, all people are unique but freedom is the one thing that makes us all the same, as equals and individuals.

Many people take freedom for granted. They don't realize how much freedom they actually have, here in the United States. Instead they tend to focus on what they are not allowed to do and what they are obligated to do, but they don't realize how different it would be if they didn't have freedom. Of course everyone has a different idea of what freedom is, some may see it as having freedom of speech, others as freedom of religion and it can even be seen as getting to watch TV past your bedtime.
