The Grimm brothers’ “The Sleeping Beauty” and Frances Minters The Sleepless Beauty follow the same basic plot: a beautiful baby is born, her parents celebrate their daughter’s birth with a huge celebration, but do not invite one witched witch. Furious that she was not invited to the celebration, the witch arrives to the party none the less, her irritation forcing her to cast a spell onto the new baby. The witch declares that when the baby becomes a teen she will prick her finger, forcing her and everyone near to fall into a deep sleep. The witches curse does happen, forcing the young girl and everyone around her to fall into a deep sleep; however, the teenage girl and all the sleeping prospects are awakened when they are both saved by their one true loves. There are minor differences in how these story pieces are put together, but the major difference in the two stories is the setting: the Grimm brothers’ tale is set in more of a …show more content…
The book places the reader in a city, comparable to modern day New York or Chicago. The witch is not invited to the party celebrating Little Beauty’s birth. Due to lack of invitation the wicked witch places a curse on Beauty; however, to prove she is not completely evil, the witch states that “when time is up, a great rock star will wake the Sleeping Beauty” from the curse (8). When Little Beauty turns fourteen, the witches curse becomes a reality; Beauty pricks her finger on an old-time vinyl record, forcing her and her parents to become very sleepy. Nonetheless, Beauty is able to find a loop hole in the witches curse; the next morning everyone awakes, because Beauty out smarted the witch, stating that “I … [just]…set the alarm” and was awakened “by the tuneful sound of rock […] by my favorite rock star, on my personal radio clock” (23). Elements such as a rock star, a vinyl record, and a radio clock force audience to imagine the story in a much more modern time
One aspect of the stories that differed would be the plot structure. In The Leap, the story is broken up into three smaller stories. Anna takes three main risks in her life and the story illustrates positive and negative consequences for taking each of these chances. This structure is most effective because it allows the theme to be viewed in multiple scenarios and perspectives. In Twins the author limits the plot to only one situation.
Some similarities are small, like the magic talking fish; but others, like the underlying motivation to be happy, are very important to the morals of the stories. Both Sergei and the fisherman want to be happy, Sergei wants to be happy alone on quite fishing trips, while the fisherman wants to be happy with his wife. The morals, even though they are tied together, are fairly different. For example, the theme of ‘What of This Goldfish, Would you wish’, doing the right thing, no matter the cost, is not the same as be grateful, which is the theme of ‘The Fisherman and His Wife’. Other differences include: the consequences, setting, and major character motivations.
A big difference is what they where doing in the river, In “Cat and rat” they where in a race for a year named after them but in “Cat and Mouse” they where only going to a village. Their transportation was very different too, Cat and rat rode on a water buffalo but Cat and Mouse used a huge pumpkin carved into a boat. In both stories Cat is a different gender, in Cat and Mouse the cat is a boy but in Cat and rat they are a girl. The last comparison I have is how many characters there where in the stories, in Cat and rat there where 14 characters but only two in Cat and
Arguably the richest decade of music contribution, the 1960’s, was a vibrant era flourishing with the new sounds of rock and pop. A truly fascinating era, filled with legacies like the Beatles, The Beach Boys, Jimi Hendrix, and their everlasting impact on history that only the generation who experienced it will fully appreciate. These events are embodied in many films such as That Thing You Do! and Pirate Radio to carry historical and cultural significance, and when done so, atmosphere is important to retain its beautiful history as an immersive element. Although both films follow quite different plots, That Thing You Do! is superior because of its incredibly accurate set design and character attire to the 60’s era, its particular camera work and cinematography in general, and its well-balanced
The two stories both depict the main character or characters battling with an inner or exterior struggle. The main difference between these two stories is what the fears or battles are. In Gloria Bird’s writings the main characters have childish fears or problems. For example, a main character,Sklemucks,
When several girls are caught apparently dancing in the forest, they fabricate that a conspiracy of witchcraft has taken over the town. Cultivating their newfound power, the girls thrive in the resulting witch hunts and pioneer an era of madness, fear, and betrayal in Salem. The threat of death looms over the accused, causing
Also the trees played a significant role in both stories. They both had boundaries and if you messed with them in certain ways there was consequences. Where Adam and Eve could not touch any of the fruit of the tree and when they did they were punished. Also in the Iroquois version they could only eat the fruit, and when Sky Women got juice from the roots “she was pushed” down the hole. They both also had an explanation of the creation of the world.
Similarly, in Walt Disney’s “Cinderella,” she is also treated horribly, and awarded a beautiful outfit by her fairy godmother, letting her attend a ball, encountering her true love. Cinderella gets married to the prince, however, the step-sisters are forgiven and live with Cinderella at the castle unlike the original story. Both stories have many similarities, especially in the climax. However, the
Another difference is that in the Christmas Carol movie they sang while in the book they never sang. Another difference is that Scrooge said he will double
There is, in fact, an abundance of differences between them regarding the plot, setting, and characters. The setting of the story is based on a farm in Great Britain, near the ocean whereas the setting of the movie was in San Francisco, California, although both San Francisco and the farm in Great Britain are near the ocean. The plot of the story consisted of a humble farmer who was, along with his family and everyone else in Great Britain, were attacked by gargantuan flocks of birds. The story followed the farmer and his journey with his family to try and survive this bird-pocalypse. The plot of the movie consisted of a wealthy city-slicker woman who was intrigued by a man and sought him out until she found him in his hometown two hours away, in a rural town named Bodega Bay.
Another difference in the stories are in the way celebration is held and the reason behind it. In “Young Goodman Brown” there is a celebration; a gathering amongst the townspeople but the gathering is not for sharing happy moments rather they gather as sinners. Everyone in the gathering has sinned one way or another. While in “The Prodigal Son” the celebration involved the slicing of a calf to rejoice over the return of the prodigal son. This difference in celebration shows how difference the stories are and how celebration for goodness and celebration for evil reveal a person’s true
In both stories, Tangled and the Grimm’s Brother’s fairy tale, there are many similarities. For example, the Rapunzel in both stories have long hair. In Tangled, it is said that her hair is supposed to be seventy feet long. In the fairy tale, it is not identified, but we know her hair is extremely long.
Although, they have similarity, the two stories has major differences also. First, both author differs the way they introduce and develop their lead characters to the reader. Second, they also differ in perspective from which their stories are being told. Third, they differs on the choice of settings and how it impact to the stories.
Kings wife finds out and tries to kill the twins and Talia. Later the Queen dies from burning. The second story is by Charles Perrault. Queen gives birth to Beauty. They have a party and invite all fairies except one old fairy.
The Narrator In both of the texts, there is a narrator in the movie with them both being 1st person and looking into that person’s point of view. However, in boy 21’s case, the narrator is talking about himself meaning what he is going to do and how have things around him affected him, while the castle’s narrator is talking about what his father is thinking and how he is going to feel when certain thing happening to him. So the difference is one of the narrators is the main protagonist and one is not but both of them are characters in their own text.
