So the boys learn how to use their equipment. Another thing that happens in this chapter is Ender tells us about a game he plays on his computer where he always dies. But in the end Ender figures it out and wins. These are the main things that happened in this chapter.
Important Quotes One important quote that shows Ender is very smart is “How did you get here, the bat asked, nobody ever comes here,” (Scott, card65). This quote shows that Ender got somewhere in the very hard game where no one makes it there. Another important quote that shows what Ender thinks of Peter is “I’m a murderer, even when I play, Peter would be proud of me,” (Scott, card65). This quote symbolizes what Ender think of
Rachel keomanivong P4 Ender’s Game Theme I believe the main theme of Ender’s game is compassion. Ender is a nine and half year old leader at his battle school, he is known as the most celebrated soldier and became a leader or commander. As Ender progresses in leading his own army or group of soldiers, he is sure to do it in a mannered way and effectively. As of chapter 10 and 11, Ender has found ways to teach his callings how important battles are to him and how they can be effective.
He is a very different character from the other characters in the book. He has his own way of thinking from the other characters he can knows how to handle things that are thrown at him. Mostly the constant pressure. His actions are thought out he just simply knows what he is doing. Ender has a very unique personality no character in this book has personality that relates to his.
Chapter 8: Bradley begins to open up to Carla Davis, the school counselor, and shares some of his feelings and fears with her. Chapter 9: Bradley starts to show improvement in his behavior and makes progress with his schoolwork. However, he still struggles to make friends. Chapter 10: Bradley's class goes on a field trip, and he has a good time with Jeff and his classmates. However, Bradley is still worried about fitting in.
Though Valentine’s actual motive for attempting to make contact with his ticklish knee was to console him, Ender considered it an act of peril, judging Valentine’s intention as harm to him. As an unintended consequence, Valentine’s perception of Ender has significantly modified for the worse. “A very small, fragile boy who needed her protection. Not this cold-eyed, dark-skinned manling who kills wasps with his fingers.” Ender’s colossal character change essentially reveals what Card inevitably understood he would become: a clone of Peter’s daunting characteristics.
After going into space for battle training, he becomes isolated from the other students immedetaly. Ender overcoming challenges finally begins to be accepted by the other students, only to be transferred and isolated again.
Chapter 4. “I am not a killer, Ender said to himself over and over. I am not peter. No matter what Graff says, I’m not. I was defending myself.”
“There is a convoy of government soldiers coming our way.” Lizard snapped his cellphone shut and rammed it in his pocket. The phone was a badge of authority, proof that he was in command. “Who will volunteer to fight?” Once again, hands shot up.
A big part of Ender’s growth through the road of trials is his defeat of the giant game. This shows how Ender approaches things differently than everyone. As mentioned previously, the alienation from his peers is tough on Ender and he overcomes that as well as makes a couple friends. The most significant test on Ender is the battle room. At first everyone
This lessens the scope of how much the International Fleet has been lying to Ender, leading to the reveal being less dramatic. The movie also completely erases the Locke and Demosthenes subplot, removes the epilogue of Ender moving to a colony with Valentine, and then replaces it with Ender finding the queen bugger’s egg on the same planet as the Command School and leaving to find a safe home for it. This also gets rid of the parallel between Ender and Peter at the end of the book, where it’s pointed out that in spite of Peter being portrayed as exceedingly cruel, he prevents the war on Earth which saves millions of lives. Ender kills billions of buggers in the Third Invasion, almost wiping out their race completely, despite being described as gentle and not wanting to hurt anyone. The movie’s tendency to cut anything not deemed an important event also makes it seem that Ender is unaffected by most of the events that occur.
However, the majority of the battles he fights are constructed and orchestrated and controlled by the Adults. Ender lives in a military archetype which assumes humans are compliant, flexible, controllable pawns, tool to be used for the benefit of others. Ender’s insecurities, doubts and fears, as to why he is so isolated, how he is becoming more like petter, how he is an ostracized genius, all that sets him apart– make him diligent, sympathetic, preservant, resilient, flexible, and above all pliable, impressionable, malleable, qualities far more common in children. Supporting quote: “‘So what do we do now?’ asked Alai.
After he destroys the alien species, he is told that it was all real and he breaks down. The valuable lessons that Ender learns from this victory helped make the book such a successful one that won
This is shown most importantly, once Ender realizes that he has been lied to, and manipulated into killing off an entire alien species, without even knowing what he has done. It is after this very traumatic childhood experience that Card illustrates how Ender decides to be the better person, by deciding that he will tell nothing but the truth, and becoming the Speaker for the Dead. This interpretation is most important because it tells the reader that not all bad, and traumatic things have to end up so horrible as everyone tends to think; oneself would only have to try to make the best of the particular situation to change themselves for the better. Now it will be explained how Ender decides to tell nothing but the truth. First, Card illustrates how traumatic events can affect a person for the better when Ender
The first major event that showed Ender enduring some troubles was when he woke up in the middle of the night and found that “there was blood” on his bed, and he had been “gnawing on his own fist” (285) in the middle of the night, in his sleep. This revealed to the reader that the strong and powerful Ender might be beginning to crack and show a
Calculating Judgments For someone so young, Ender is exceptionally calculating. In almost the very beginning of the novel, the author shows Ender being bullied by Stilson and his gang. Ender realizes that he must thoroughly beat Stilson so the rest of the gang wouldn’t pick on Ender ever
Even Ender has realized how whatever he does, he is not in control because the IF is so enormous. During the climax of the book, you begin to see the effect of Ender’s isolation and all the things that the IF has done to him. This includes the constant stream of challenges facing Ender, which shows that they will stop at nothing. Near the end of the book, it turned out that the IF was wrong and the war could have been avoided. This shows how when you rush into things, throw away morals, and don’t proceed without caution, terrible things can result from
