Many people day to day feel worthless. Why do they feel this way? They might feel this way because at some point in their life they have been called a name, threatened, or have had a rumor spread about them or ect. If you have felt this way you have been a victim of bullying. Bullying has five major parts to it verbal, social, cyber, physical, and lastly mental. My other question to you now is if you are a victim of bullying have you spoke up? Do you think you have been heard? Well, in the movie trailer Bully it shows so many perspectives of victims of bullying and the bully. But there are three main families that have stuck out to me and to tell you about them i am going to use the rhetorical devices i have learned about in school Pathos, Ethos, and Logos. They have reached out to me by starting out by talking about kids that have or have been victims of bullying and families that have been a part of a kid's life of suicide. For e this is creating the rest of the documentary movie trailer. Also, throughout the trailer it shows a lot of different situations that i haven't mentioned. But from month to week down to day by day you should not feel like you are worthless. If you are feeling like this you should speak up. But it is persuading me also that from day to day you can not just look at a person and just assume what is happening in someone's life or even what is going on in their minds. By reaching out and persuasion i want to encourage you to say hi or eve whats up? To someone that you normally do not talk to because you don't really know what is happening in their life. Activity theory, as interpreted by Ph.D. candidates, Wardle and Kain, is a process that attempts to see all aspects of activity such as social interactions and use of writing and language to achieve goals. This theory is award winning. Activity theory states that for a system to be effective, the rules, community, subject, division of labor, and motives must be reasonable. These components are shown through the chosen tool of communication most often. When one area of the system is corrupted, the tool will no longer function correctly in order to communicate or achieve its goals.

A Not so Modest Proposal Well known, political analyst, Jonathan Swift, in his persuasive writing, “ a Modest Proposal”, coaxed for the proposition of making children of poor families be deemed beneficial by selling them as food to rich families during the Irish famine. Swift’s purpose is to enlighten the Irish and their government about the substantial poverty level through sardonic satire. He adopts a facetious tone in order to shock the readers with disturbing and morally untenable positions to reach the attention to the Irish government about the living conditions in Dublin. Swift begins his persuasive proposal by analyzing that the environment in Dublin is permeated with those living in a deplorable state.
In the article, “Out of the Mouths of Children, Wisdom,” the author, Leonard Pitts claims that adults should appreciate the directness of children and bring an end to war. To build off of this claim, and further his argument, he uses anecdotes, vivid language, and appeal to emotion. Anecdotes allow the reader to personally connect with the audience in a way that is virtually unparalleled. They can be used near anywhere in a piece of writing, but in this case (and in my opinion, the strongest way to use them) it was used as a hook to grab the reader’s attention.

So, with both Brain Interrupted and The Censors both sources prove that distraction can affect your train of thought or what you are doing in general, with Bob Sullivan he displays his point through technology and the effect it has on you, while Luisa Valenzuela profess her point through her fictional character Juan and how he got bewildered.
Henry Garnet was a Minister and an educator to the black community. He became known for a speech that he done that later became known as “A Call to Rebellion.” In this speech he successfully presents an argument to his audience to allow them to see and understand his viewpoint. With the use of rhetoric in ethos and pathos, a long with his pronoun use, effectively convinces the audience that they could overcome slavery. Henry Garnet effectively appeals to the audience ethically by using his power as a Minister to inform the men of slavery about religious values.
Poverty; a word that is commonly used so often when it comes to individuals being a low classed, low income, American citizen who struggle to find success and an efficient job that pays well. In Barbara Ehrenreich’s article It Is Expensive to Be Poor, published in the online news article company The Atlantic, on January 13,2014, she argues that those who are struggling to support their own family or find an efficient well paying job are obtaining no support from the self-centered government. Ehrenreich also tries to inform the readers that those who are in poverty are treated unfairly and unjust. Through Ehrenreich’s argumentative article, she tries to persuade the readers through reasoning, credible personal background and history, as well as emotional appeals.
Past leaders such as Andrew Jackson, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Marc Antony are evidence that society does not reward morality and good character in leadership. Society is drawn to leaders that have good rhetoric, propaganda, and charismatic personalities, and society supports them despite their immorality. Society is concerned about stability more than the morality of their leaders and will support immoral leaders in times of crisis to provide stability. In history there have been multiple leaders that have used rhetoric, propaganda and charismatic personalities to gain power, despite their morals.
My definition of rhetoric before the readings was simply: successful written or oral communication with a clear purpose & audience in mind. After completing the readings, I have decided that is not specific enough and does not encompass what rhetoric really is. The readings by Crusus, Channell, and Drucker helped establish a clear relationship between argument, “mature reasoning”, and communication as a mode used to communicate. Both of the readings provided a clearer understanding of argument and communication, key components to rhetoric, but did not change my definition until I read “The Rhetorical Situation” by Bitzer. The idea of a rhetorical situation, provided a clear application of the question: “What is rhetoric?”
Everywhere we look there is some form of bullshit going around and according to Professor Frankhurt, bullshitting is a more serious threat than lying. In his essay he talks about the many concepts of bullshit from his own perspective and compares bullshit to other related topics such as “Humbug” and “Lying”, and then breaks the words down to a basic understanding to help find a true meaning of . His use of definitions and in depth analysis, makes his essay very effective in describing buullshit. It seems that his main concerns pertain to what bullshit is.
In her essay, “I Had a Nice Time with you Tonight, on the app,” Jenna Wortham believes that social media apps are a helpful way to connect. Wortham swears by apps and is grateful that she can communicate with her boyfriend who is three thousand miles away. Yet some may challenge the view that Social Media apps are a reliable and effective method of communicating, Sherry Turkle stresses people are substituting online communication for face-to-face interaction. Although Turkle may only seem of concern to only a small group of people, it should in fact concern anyone who cares about the negative effects social media can have on people. In her eyes, nothing can replace person-to-person communication.

As a major problem in schools around the world, the issue of bullying must be addressed in order to keep students physically and emotionally safe. The act of bullying not only affects the well-being of the person being targeted, but it also affects the rest of the school community too. It can be difficult for teachers, principals, and superintendents to make an ethical decision about what to do when bullying occurs because there are misunderstandings about what bullying is, leading to the improper identification of situations.
Bullying is defined as repeated oppression, physical or psychological of a less powerful individual by a more powerful individual, people or group. It consists of three main types of abuse which are physical, verbal and emotional. Bullying in schools is a common and worldwide spread problem that can have critical and negative implications on the general school climate as well as on the right of students to study in a safe and secure environment without fear. Many people believe that bullying is part of life, happens in all schools and so it’s not an issue to worry about and that it lets individuals know what life is all about as it toughens them but in reality bullying is a detrimental problem that affects most school going children and teenagers physically, emotionally and socially.
