Good day Sir, our names are Logan Bosak and Kiera Markham, and we are pleased to represent Rebecca Nurse on this vitally important case. Your Excellency, the defendant stands hither accused falsely of witchcraft, a severe crime that should be dealt with the utmost care and understanding. Your Excellency must recall that Rebecca has not once strayed from her claim even as she was barraged with
The thesis of this chapter states that in certain situations, it is crucial to listen to a medical professional, however, in others, it is very important to listen to yourself and also to do what you feel is right. The author of Complications," Atul Gawane, has written this specific chapter to persuade the reader of his thesis. If the choice you make is incorrect, then it could potentially be a matter of life and death. Atul Gawande gives multiple examples of patients that have made wrong and right decisions to prove his point. He uses the personal anecdotes of four different people, with four decisions to prove his point.
Talk about what went well in the scenario. I perform vitals sings and communicated effectively with Mr. Ahmed. I educated the patient in areas such as dehydration, fall risks, intake and ouptup measurements. In addition, I administer oral and intravenous medication to ensure proper drug
I tried to reason about the doctor’s gross negligence while handling her case. I would ask myself repeatedly why the doctor’s failure of fiduciary duties to his patient was violated. I attuned that the doctor, who later admitted his mistake on behalf of my grandmother’s case, breached on a once established relationship with his patient. Being devoted to a patient’s wellbeing is an obligation that every doctor must fulfill. Continuing school and pursuing pre-med, I pray every day that I hold true to my devotion that one day I will deliver the care that every patient
Dr. Merlino did his fellowship at Cleveland Clinic in a colorectal unit. He was so happy because he felt he was accepted to one of the best colorectal program fellows in the world, if not the best. Reflecting on this clinical practice has been unquestionably beneficial to me. It is helped me ascertain further information about dignity and the importance of it. It has also allowed me to evaluate the care I give and develop personally and professionally. Using the Gibbs (1988) reflective framework has enabled me to look at all aspects of the clinical practice and gain essential information relating the maintenance of dignity. I have found this assignment of reflecting extremely interesting and have enjoyed learning new things about myself and the care I give in clinical practice.
Doctors and physicians have more and better knowledge than normal people about human body and they are able to assist their patients while making tough decisions. However, they can not always make the right decision. Doctors can not predict the result of a surgery or a treatment and they do not have enough confidence of the result because sometimes the surgery could go in a way they didn’t expect. Although patients have the right to decide their treatments, doctors and patients should share
The professional nursing values I believe are things you can be taught and some you cannot. Nurses are special individuals who ultimately want to care for and help others as much as they can. I agree with all of these values and believe some I will need to work on myself such as competence, illness prevention and patient education. Others I believe I have based on my experience I have already had while caring for others. Some of the qualities I believe I have include: caring, compassion, dependability, empathy, focusing on the patient- defining quality of life, having a holistic patient centered care, kindness, openness to learning, respect for others their dignity and worth and sensitivity.
The following reflection piece is based on an event which I experienced during my internship placement. Johns model of reflection will be used for this assignment. The reflection is based around my own personal experience with a terminally ill patient. It focuses on one main issue, providing hope for patients and how I felt about it. it also discusses my feelings, the knowledge I had, my knowledge gaps and what I learnt through literature during my reflection.
As I was getting my assignment for the day, I was thinking “Am I going to remember what to say, or how to perform certain skills?” But, to my surprise, I was able to jump right back in. My patient was an 84 year old male, admitted with a blocked common bile duct. I was, able to talk with him, and do his assessment with no problem.
With reflection it is important that the individual is honest, which needs to be reflected in written record keeping, this enables others to easily understand what has occurred (Williams et al, 2012). Reflective practice is mainly used to assist nurses and healthcare professionals to gain an
It enables the student to reflect and consider his/her intentions and actions prior to the incident and prompts the health professional to critically assess the incident and identify the key learning outcomes through a series of questions (Johns, 2013). These two models can be interlinked to enable the student to explore his/her thoughts are feelings without making assumptions whilst creating learning opportunities to change future nursing practice. Due to having two different models of reflection, where Johns (2000) reflective model does not permit the practitioner to delve into their thoughts and feelings, Driscoll (2000) model of reflection enables them to do so to achieve different learning outcomes (Jasper, 2013).
The Term reflection can have many meanings to many people. Reflection can carry meanings that range from the idea of professionals engaging in solitary introspection to that of engaging in deep meaningful conversations with others. But for this assignment I will focus on; what is refection in the clinical setting, why it is important for health care professionals to reflect and where the ideology of reflection came from. I will also provide a personal experience of reflection during my time in the clinical setting that helped me to come up with a solution to a challenging situation. WHAT IS REFLECTION?
The Gibbs’s reflective cycle comprises of six stages, which are description, feeling, evaluation, analysis of the incident, conclusion and an action plan. I used these stages as a guidance tool during the process of reflective essay about my critical incident (Parsons and White 2008). Nursing in the past was more habituated and ritualistic than rational and precision. Nurses were not encouraged to question their practice let alone reflective practice.
Each patient represents a specific case who has different background, personality, preference and conditions. Thus, it is important for practitioner to learn from each patient and document it for future reference. Scene
