Do you truly surmise that when you consider African Americans? Asians? Do you picture several novel individuals in your mind or only one face and increase it by 100? Generalization makes individuals begin to disregard points of interest and uniqueness, and rather just concentrate on the enormous thought which is typically not genuine. In Robert Heilbroners essay “Don’t Let Stereotypes Warp Your Judgments” he discusses the many ways we use the idea of stereotyping in our everyday lives. Heilbroner reminds his readers on how stereotyping affects everyone’s lives in different areas beginning from how people view the world as a whole, to how people view each individual. According to Heilbroner, stereotyping will never be a positive aspect in life. He gives his opinion that stereotyping makes people lazy thinkers and that it not only harms the people we are stereotyping, but it also harms ourselves.

Stereotypes have always been a part of our society which have contributed to our culture and way of life. For example, In Cold Blood portrays two criminals who feel inferior to the rest of the people surrounding them because of society’s perceptions of these men due to the actions they had perpetrated in their past. The two men were viewed as criminals by the people in their lives and they did not believe they could overcome what people thought about them. Both men began their bad decision by stealing money and after being labeled as bad people, they continued their actions by murdering because they did not think they could change their reputations (Capote). I agree with the author Claude M. Steele because I think the effect of stereotyping have on someone is that it strips the person of their individuality and put them in a group that they don’t belong in. it’s make people make assumptions about others based on age, gender, and appearance and make it’s hard to get to know that people for who they are. If a person try to prove someone wrong about a stereotyping than the other person might call them racist or be rude to them. So they just let people to say a negative stereotype about them even if it not true.

Spread of negative stereotypes Negative stereotypes have been created by us, as a society, we have allowed ourselves to live with this misconceptions that impact all of us in a certain way. We have contributed to those beliefs that say that social status, income class and ethnicity define our identity. In fact, we have been and also have prejudged others at a certain point in our lives, we prejudge people we don’t know and also the ones we think we know like our own family members. Society has been influenced by the way in which people identify themselves and one another. Some of those influences are positive, while some are negative. Stereotypes are people’s prejudices toward the people in minority groups that are not fully understood by the majority of society. Hence, stereotypes make people wrongly consider some individuals as the epitomes of a whole group of people. Therefore, the identities, opportunities and decision-making of different individuals of the minor groups are limited.

However racial and gender stereotypes embedded in their media has influenced children to believe certain biases and think that some stereotypes are socially acceptable or normal. There have been some positive outcomes due to the viewing of these stereotypes however there are a plethora of after effects that cause children to have negative views on specific cultures and females. Some of the views imposed on people cause mental problems and disorders that are dangerous.

One of the biggest things the human race has created is society. How humans live, how they interact, what customs they follow, all of it becomes a part of society. But many negatives have arisen from society as well such as: hate crimes, racism, discrimination, and much more have all taken root in society. The roots run so deep that most modern day citizens are not even aware of their own preferences. One of the worse roots being stereotypes.

All it takes it one minute for someone to make an assumption of something or someone they see. Stereotypes put labels on how a person should live or act according to their gender, personality, looks, or other factual evidence. Misconceptions are an opinion or views based on faulty thinking due to personal experiences, media propaganda, language, or the lack of information. There are stereotypes and misconceptions because it is a natural response for humans to create schemas for every type of person they see. Relieved and hopeful are what people on welfare feel because they are receiving the assistance they need.

Stereotyping is a social disease that allows hatred to become embedded in society. As a person of the male gender, I have been exposed to stereotyping. When I was a child, even today, I experience all kinds of stereotyping. For example, the day we received our report cards, after school, my mother, sister and I went to the doctor's office to get a needle shot. While we were waiting, I showed my mom my report card.

Stereotypes separate people, and give them a fixed mentality towards a certain group of people. Sister Rose Thering witnessed stereotypes when she was taught that the Jewish people were malicious for killing Christ. Nevertheless, she strived to prevent prejudice directed towards Jews. I am a member of the Peer Leadership club in my school, and I have done activities with other students that discourage negative behavior associated with bigotry and bullying.

Stereotyping is an issue that affects all ages, genders, and races. According to nobullying.com everyone stereotypes, the problem comes when you consciously stereotype. In S.E. Hinton’s young adult novel The Outsiders, stereotyping is a big issue. There are two gangs in this novel, the greasers, and the SOcs. The greasers live on the east side or rough side of town.

In today’s society, individuals and groups are labeled with either positive or negative stereotypes. People encounter stereotypes everyday and everywhere. It is the picture people paint in their minds when approaching a group or individual when in fact it may be different in reality. Stereotypes affect a person’s way of living and thinking either in a negative or positive way. Stereotypes are based on truth but in an exaggerated way, while misconceptions are formed from having stereotypes.
