Mental health is an important factor for a successful life. People have different perspectives on the impacts it can have. It all depends on how sports is used and seen. Team sports bring many random people, who probably do not know each other together, by practicing and participating in team activities. You might get closer to some teammates, making a forever lasting friendship. You feel relaxed when you're with your friends, and when you're doing something that you enjoy doing. However, one side reasons why sports bring many together and connect is maybe they might want the same goal at the end to win a event or make a meaningful memory with others. Nicola S. mentions in her article how participants “will hide it in order to feel ‘the same’ as their peers, but this unfortunately can lead to one of the leading causes of death; suicide” ( Source 4). I disagree because the benefits of participating in a sport outweighs the risks it can have. The risks of sports, from increasing suicidal thoughts to physical injuries, are very unlikely to actually occur. These type of situations only take place when people who do not know how to learn sports or don't help getting along with teammates are involved. Nicola states, “When you are physically active, your mind is distracted from daily stressors. This can help you avoid getting bogged down by negative thoughts” (Source 3). So, sports are more beneficial than harmful because they help take away those negative thoughts that lead to that dangerous path. Also, participation can defend you from becoming depressed because you usually play a sport because it is exciting and you enjoy playing, or like the support system it gives you. So you become happy overall, since you’re doing something that you love and are passionate about. It creates an environment that is used to allow a person to calm down, relax, and have fun. In the article named “Benefits of Teamwork In Sports.” the author, Wade Harle showed how learning to cooperate with others towards a certain goal in youth sports is what builds character, friendship and important life skills for players and also coaches. The friendships built throughout a team can last a lifetime for some players, and the journey of a team throughout a season is often stuck in your memory for a lengthy period of time. Also found in that article is, the teamwork in sports offer a way for kids to compete for something together. Although it is important to know that winning isn’t everything in sports, some competition can be great for people.
