There are many people in the world who deserve to be commended for efforts or accomplishments, and I do not deny that Chris McCandless could be seen as one of them. He did try something new and I commend him for that, however, I do not believe that the manner in which he did so deserves attention and or praise. Chris was not a very considerate person in the way that he left without letting his family know what he would be doing, giving his parents and sister a lifetime of guilt and wondering. He was also not the first, nor the last person to do something like this, and there were many who were much more successful than him in trying to live a life in extreme wilderness conditions.

Pvt. Felix Longoria was a Mexican American who served our country in a voluntary mission during World War II. Anthony Provenzano commonly referred to as “Tony Pro” was a ruthless organized crime leader who also doubled up as a leader in the Local 560 employees union in New Jersey in the early period of 1940s. Born in 1917 to a family of six sons of an immigrant couple, Tony Pro could not proceed further with his education beyond the age of fifteen years. After dropping out of school, he picked up a job as a truck helper but later became a truck driver (Abadinsky 318). However, his burning desire was to become a professional boxer and could not hesitate to taste his skills of throwing that heavy punch to anyone’s face that dared knowingly or unknowingly cross his line drawn on the sand.

How do people survive a mission filled with hardship? Ernesto Galarza and ¨the Apollo 13¨ are just trying to accomplish their goals when hardships get in their way. How did Ernesto and ¨Apollo 13¨ undertake their mission? Ernesto and the Apollo 13 crew both undertook missions to prove they could accomplish their goals using patience, hard work, and determination with struggles on being an American and surviving in space. Ernesto Galarza came from Mexico and just came to America.

How well Wes Moore describes the culture of the streets, and particularly disenfranchised adolescents that resort to violence, is extraordinary considering the unbiased perspective Moore gives. Amid Moore’s book one primary theme is street culture. Particularly Moore describes the street culture in two cities, which are Baltimore and the Bronx. In Baltimore city the climate and atmosphere, of high dropout rates, high unemployment and poor public infrastructure creates a perfect trifecta for gang violence to occur. Due to what was stated above, lower income adolescent residents in Baltimore are forced to resort to crime and drugs as a scapegoat of their missed opportunities.

Maquiladoras are industries run by foreign companies. They’re major contributors to the economy of Mexico. Maquiladoras were first introduced in 1965 to help increase exports and help industrialization along the U.S and Mexico border. President Donald Trump wants to build a wall alongside Mexico’s border. This wall goes against the North American Free Trade Agreement as imports and exports between Mexico and America will be affected due to the strict regulations.

World War 2 On September,1st, 1939 the world changed forever. World War 2 had started. It was a grim day for the families of the soldiers that would never return, But for the family of a certain soldier that proved his worth on the battlefield, and his name is Marc Jermend. He was a good working man who had grown to be about 23 years old, and barely 160 pounds.

Refuge and the Impact of Relationships Have you ever wanted to escape from your everyday life due to stressful relationships and challenges and find refuge in things you truly enjoy? Refuge is a state of feeling safe and comfortable in your surroundings. People can find refuge in many places, things, or with people. Relationships that are created with other people are very important for someone's physical and mental health because they can influence many important life decisions that could significantly impact someone’s life in either a negative or positive way.

What Chris McCandless was a great guy I wish I could meet but he died in Alaskan backcountry on August 18, 1992. I question why he did what he did; I question myself why am I doing what I doing? Why? I still admiring what Chris did and a lot of people do. It amazing he excelled academically although a number of teachers and fellow students observed that he ¨marched to the beat of a different drummer.¨ He was also a captain in cross-country he would urge teammates to treat running as a spiritual exercise in which they were ¨running against the force of darkness …

The tenderness and compassion that the members of this Native American community had shown Teofolio and his family following his death is indicative of a close bond that these people share. For instance, when Leon and his brother-in-law Ken found Teofolio dead under the cottonwood tree, they ritualistically tied a gray feather into the old man’s hair, sprinkled corn meal and pollen into the win and then painted his face with a traditional white steak across his forehead, a blue streak across his cheekbones, a yellow streak under his nose and a green one across his chin. Once this was completed, they wrapped the corpse in a blanket and drove it back to Teofolio’s home where they redressed it in a brown flannel shirt and a new pair of jeans. Once Ken had left to seek out gravediggers for the burial, neighbors and clanspeople brought sustenance to the home so that the gravediggers would have something to eat after they had performed their task. The neighbors were also there to show the family some support by embracing them in silence as a way to honor the deceased.

During his time studying these boys, he found that most cases of conflict were resolved without the use of weapon(s), but rather with “harsh conversation”. This observation highly contradicts the typical view of gang members who are commonly stereotyped by their local community and justice system in Oakland. Rios describes how the boys “Conversations often involved references to guns as analogies for resolving conflict and demonstrating manhood”. Victor Rios, author of Punished: Policing the Lives of Black and Latino Youths grew up in Oakland, California. During his childhood there he had an experience that made him return to Oakland to question and study the current issues that the youth’s their face. At the age of 14 he had joined a gang, he did this mostly for protection from other gangs and threats in the area, and during his time in the gang he met another kid named “smiley,” nicknamed because of his knack to smile during every situation, good or bad. Rios would become good friends with him, and even steal a car for him to use as a home at one point when he was kicked out of his own home. Although this would eventually lead to one of his first encounters with bad police officers, as he was severely beaten for what he had done.

The Woman Behind the Tutti Fruiti Hat Carmen Miranda, given name Maria do Carmo Miranda da Cunha was born February 9, 1909, in Marco de Canaveses, Portugal. When she was just ten months old, her parents moved to Brazil. That is where she got her start and became a singing sensation. In the 1930’s Carmen got her big break and moved to the United States to star on Broadway. Carmen was known in the United States for being a Brazilian singer, and actress who was seen as a Hollywood symbol of Latin American. Because of this, she would have to fight for her identity with her own people.

Even though José Julián Martí Pérez, better known as José Martí, is not known worldwide, he is considered one of the most important heroes and poets in Cuba. He fought bravely for Cuban independence and died for his country. He is considered the "Apostle of Cuban Independence" in Cuba. He is studied every year in school. We celebrate his birth and his death- at 42- every year.
