In “People Like Us”, Brooks David mentions the diversity in United States, and people only willing to hang out with their own kind. To explain this point further, cultures, interests, religions, jobs, and races are all the reason why people tend to stay together. The country has been broken into small segments with their features. For instance, people from the same Asian background gathering in certain area. People even stay in their old neighborhood while they have money to move, because they felt their neighborhood shares their value and culture.

Texas is an incredibly geographically and culturally diverse state. It contains multiple mountains above 8000 feet and hundreds of miles of shoreline. Texas has people of many nationalities, such as Spaniards, Germans, and Mexicans. Texas, being the second-largest state of the United States in land area, has numerous important geographical features and cultural sites found in its colossal vastness. Texas contains four naturally divided regions: the Mountains and Basins, the Great Plains, the North Central Plains, and the Gulf Coastal Plains.

A place filled with difference and diversity around every corner has become the identity of America. A home of immigrants; a place of culture mixing with culture and color mixing with color; anything can and will happen here. Sometimes, my little town may appear to lack culture and color, but it does not lack pride. Here flags fly high on almost every block, and the “‘Merica” themed dress-up days have the most participation amongst students in school.

Autobiographical Diversity Paper 1. Environment: I grew up in El Dorado, a midsize town in south central Kansas about 30 miles from Wichita. I used to refer to El Dorado as a small town until I came to Kansas State and met many other Kansans who were from towns with 500 or 1,000 people. That made El Dorado, with a population of 13,000, seem pretty big so I call it a midsize town now.

There is a major diversity in the culture of Texas. At first it was a place where all the white men were residing but now there is a large population of Latinos and African American. The Asians take up 4.2 percent of the state’s population so the diversity of the type of cultures in Texas makes it the majority-minority state. International and domestic immigration is increasing and diversifying the state’s population. Texans are generally younger and are generally poorer than individuals in other states.

The Hispanic Student Association, or HSA for short, was founded in 1999 by Nestor "Ito" Rodriguez the former president of HSA. Who is now currently the head of the Hispanic alumni council and married to Jaclyn Rodriguez. The organization is located on the main campus in the university center (UC) through the involvement zone in room 221. The purpose of HSA is to spread and demonstrate to other students the marvels of the Hispanic culture and to enrich their minds of the cultural diversity that is around them. To accomplish this HSA does many social events and gatherings, such as the St. Jude walk/run and Hispanic heritage month, which allows students of any background to come and enjoy the Hispanic culture in a safe and discrimination free

Through their efforts, Chicano activists were able to bring attention to the struggles of their community and make significant progress towards achieving equality.

The increasing numbers of Latino youth who obtain college degrees are become active in politics, with the biggest trend of Latino population is youth and growth we can only hope for even more support in politics. “For the first time ever, Latinos accounted for one in ten votes cast nationwide in the presidential election, and Obama recorded the highest ever vote total for any presidential candidate among Latinos, at 75%” (Barreto and Segura 145). Immigrants have become a relevant topic as well with racism and unfair treatment, but even so things have begun being more pessimistic, and the overall feeling is not extremely focused on Latinos, but everyone as a whole. Texas government and history have deep roots with the spanish and while many people see this in the cities, and the culture that is predominantly hispanic there are still issues that come up daily. Nonetheless the progress that has been achieved is commendable, and Latinos have truly gone a long way despite that things still could be better. The heritage and lifestyle is still troubled by leaders and everyday racism, but those are things that are slowly changing as unions and people group up together. We’re constantly being influences by our surrounding. Usually, our parent’s cultural background plays a significant part in shaping who we are. On the other hand, co-cultures also promote their own set of values which could easily shape our ideas about certain matters as well. These components are a part of how we perceive ourselves and how others perceive too. Growing in a Mexican household allowed me to be exposed to more family orientated events that included music, food and dancing.

Political culture establishes the backdrop against which politics unfold, it establishes the outer limits of what is possible, or even probable in the political realm. Texas political culture can be described as traditionalistic and individualistic. Texas traditionalist political culture believes in the values that policies are designed to preserve social order in the state, politicians come from society’s elite, and politicians have a family obligation to govern. While on the other hand, individualistic political culture believes that government should be limited when it comes to the lives of the public, individual rights of the citizens should be the main focus of a government rule, and a stronger support of personal politics rather than elitism. Texas also has a strong populism influence.

Within the public educational system, children interact with all sorts of people. Personally, I went to a public elementary school local to Palm Springs. Vista Del Monte or in English, "View of the Mountain" was a mostly Hispanic school. Even the name is in Spanish. I could count the number of Caucasian people in my class on one hand.

Diversity may mean different things to different people. To me, diversity is exactly that, being different and unique. Diversity makes the world a beautiful place to be, and full of interesting and different people. The beauty of human civilization lies in its diverse groups and cultures.
