Moving into the discussion of Edward Hallowell’s book Shine, this proves the topic of choosing the correct people for the right job. As a student, I read the book “Foundations of Human Resource Development Course.” This section is going to go more in-depth of Hallowell’s book and how it will pertain to my future career endeavors. This book was the focal point of the class, and I believe it offered valued information for any employer or employee. Hallowell is a bestselling author, ADD expert and psychiatrist who used brain science and performance research to come up with the five steps of excellence to help individuals to become more productive in their lives. Each of the five steps have their own purpose, but when put together, the steps help …show more content…
There are three criteria that a leader can take into consideration when selecting a candidate. The first criteria are thinking about the job being something the individual would be good at performing. Secondly, is the job something the candidate likes to do. The last criteria to think about is, is it something that will add value to the job or the company. When a person is selected for the right job, based on these criteria, it creates a recipe for excellence. Selection is the first step in Hallowell’s cycle because it influences all the other steps that follow. Even through selecting the right job, some people get stuck in that position, ultimately being the wrong job. Two reasons that can cause a person to select the wrong job can be from selecting based off of benefits and salary or selecting a career based on what family or friends think is best. Hallowell states (2011), “Pick the right dream, examine it, and make sure it is a dream that suits you well enough that you will want to work hard, very hard, to make it come true, and also make sure that even if it doesn’t come true, you will feel glad and proud that you pursued it anyway” (p.46). Working hard is part of being selected for the right job as the individual will want to
At the beginning of Night, Eliezer describes himself as someone who believes profoundly. The essay that I am typing will have 3 body paragraphs for, and in every paragraph there is a quote for it. Now onto the first quote in the essay. First, quote is in chapter 1, page 1, and quote number 4.
World War II, the second war Hitler was vanquished in but different battles. WWII Hitler decided to kill off all Jewish people, he wanted to wipe out their whole existence. But from all of this destruction came forth a man who was to tell their story, a boy who lost everything to a man who wanted Jewish people dead. Elie Wiesel, was the boy that was there from the start of this war against genocide. Elie have consequently written the book “Night” which tells his tale of the war moreover his survival.
Topic #3 There are few periods of time in history that are darker or more shocking than the Holocaust which was the mass killing of jews and other groups that hitler did not deem worthy to walk this earth. The Holocaust lasted about 12 years which is an insane amount of time for the mass killing of jews to be happening without anyone putting a stop to it. In the book “Night”written by Elie Wiesel writes about how no one in his town did anything despite the advance of the German army and Moishe the Beadle explaining what the germans are doing to the jews.
The night is a frightening tale of a Jewish teenager who is deported to the Nazi extermination camps that becomes a witness to the death of his family and his God. In the face of absolute horror, the devout protagonist asks himself: How can He allow these atrocities to take place in the God in whom I have believed so far with such fervor? Question that we ask ourselves every day when we see all the war conflicts and social injustices that are taking place all around the world. Elie Wiesel, author of this magnificent novel, begins by explaining that when he was 15 years old, news of the horrors the Nazis were spreading throughout Europe had not reached his village, Sighet, “The little town in Transylvania.” The life of
If God is the creator of everything, did he also create evil? The answer to that questions is debatable and complex. The author of the book Night, Elie Wiesel, a holocaust survivor, has explored the possible answer to this question throughout his experiences during and after the holocaust. While conducting his interview with professor Georg Klein, Wiesel explains, that God did not create evil but it was humans who did. He continues by stating that only humans can do the nonhuman and unbearable things to one another.
In almost all films and novels of any genre, evil does not and cannot triumph. This is the case in both “Jekyll and Hyde” and “The Shining” wherein evil is represented as a force that ultimately causes its own demise. Both antagonists commit suicide due to being overcome by their better nature. In “The Shining” Jack Torrance is on the verge of murdering his son, until “the face in front of him changed” and “the mallet began to rise and descend, destroying the last of Jack Torrance’s image”. This suggests that violent people meet violent ends.
They could not lie down or sit because there is not enough room. This technically would be a choice because they probably would all sitting if they could. However, the choice is already made for them since there is not enough room to actually sit somewhere. They have the choice to escape and die or stay and die, of course they do not know that most of them would die if they were to stay.
The decisions people make can affect them in a positive way or a negative way. I believe that Elieʻs choices have both sides. In this book NIGHT by Elie Weisel it was hard to survive as a Jew in these times as the story explains. As a young teen like Elie, he had a lot of peer pressure with Jews and the SS. Elie had it rough with being away from home and separated from his mother and sister.
The study is designed to understand the different social issues related to different characters in the novel To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf. It focuses on the Victorian and Modern marriages and highlights how the female characters are different from one another. Similarly, there are a lot of religious doubt, degrading women, and an unclear vision in the novel by one of the characters. However, there are deaths in the novel too. Similarly, it will focus on the two central women in the story.
INTRODUCTION Human resource management is the strategic approach to the management of an organization 's most valued assets - the people working there who individually and collectively contribute to the achievement of the goals of the business (Armstrong, M., 2006). In other words, human resource management is a to work with employees, and for the employees, to help them solve their problems. Therefore, human resource is a complicate department, as they deal with people who already work there, they also deal with several issues which happen among new employees, such as recruitment, selection and so on. Nowadays, employee retention becomes one of the most significant issue in the organizations, and managers are aiming to find the best employees
Selection methods deal with the candidate’s applications and resumes, interviews, reference checks, background checks, cognitive ability tests, performance tests, and integrity tests (Bateman & Snell, 2013, pp. 185-187). Throughout the selection process on the video, there were two applicants that were interviewed: Jacqueline and Sonya. The three key components that Robert was looking for was business experience, education, and personality qualities.
1. How does Marlow feel when he hears the tribesmen howl and watches them dance? How does he explain that feeling? What keeps him from joining the tribesmen? Marlow identifies with the howling, dancing tribesmen, feeling that he and the tribesmen have a “remote kinship” that he believes all white men need to recognize and acknowledge.

Researchers have shaped compelling evidence for the fundamental relation between employee performance and how management acts with them (Boheene & Asuinura, 2011). They claim that the effectiveness of human resource practices, particularly employee selection, performance appraisals, benefits and reward management, procedures and employee training and development often have a direct effect on the productivity and performance of the employee. And implementing an effective human resource management can enhance the organization 's ability to attract and maintain qualified and motivated employees yield greater profitability, low employee turnover and these invariably lead to higher productivity.
