The Enlightenment was a period of great intellectual and cultural change that took place in Europe and the Americas during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. It was characterized by a new way of thinking about the world that was based on reason, science, and individualism, and it challenged the traditional ideas of authority and religion that had dominated the pre-modern era. One of the key changes brought about by the Enlightenment was the shift from a feudal and religious-based society to one that was more democratic and secular. This change was driven by a number of factors, including the rise of a new merchant class, the growth of cities and trade, and the influence of the printing press.

These were major elements within the industrial revolution itself. The technology gained is usually the only thing people remember about the mid 1800’s. The revolution is constantly thought as a major positive turning point in the world’s history. The Enlightenment was a period of time that stressed the importance of reason and individual ideas. Many philosophers published works criticizing a country’s monarch or divulging the flaws they saw in a system within the government, such as the justice system. The Enlightenment also stressed the importance of education, and as a result of this, literacy rates experienced a major upward trend. Now able to read the philosopher’s works, a larger sum of people now were educated on the corruptions within their government. This caused a questioning of traditional practices, and people began to believe they could revise their government.

Both, the enlightenment and industrial time period offer their differences and similarities to each other. The change represents if humanity has advanced or reverted to their old ways, through the use of education. During the Enlightenment period Jean Jacques Rousseau wrote a book called, ‘Émile,’ a bildungsroman following a man from infancy to adulthood. In many of Rousseau’s writing it is shown that he views children as the perfect humans as they have been untainted by the world and could be easily taught the wrongs and rights through education. Rousseau also believes that the goodness of a child can be maintained through their upbringing, which could contribute to them not being corrupted by modern society.

The Enlightenment developed as an extension of the Scientific Revolution. (A period of time in which scientists questioned traditional beliefs about the working and philosophy of the universe.) As of previous dates, and the current date, the most influential and well-known Enlightenment thinkers are Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Voltaire, Baron de Montesquieu, and Jean Jacques Rousseau. The Enlightenment thinkers sought out the idea of a limited government. (A government that is restricted from over-abusive control and large amounts of power.)

The Enlightenment Period, a time period of significant change and development of science, economy and human identity. Of course, when there is change, there is always an individual or individuals behind it to create this change in direction. We will examine the five philosophers that not only did not allow the fear of failure to stop them but even pursued the challenge and created the a new train for thought. The Enlightenment was a philosophical movement which leaded the world’s ideas in Europe in the 18th century and mobilized by varies group of philosophes. Numerous ideas of the French and American Revolutions originated from the Enlightenment. The movement was pivotal in developing every aspect of the modern world, most particularly in terms of natural laws, politics and government. Without the central ideas of the Enlightenment, our world would have been different. The following paragraphs will discuss the influences of the Enlightenment with reference to Isaac Newton and John Locke.

All children under the age of fifteen who worked in factories had to complete a minimum of three months of school. Soon another law declared children to work a maximum of 10 hours a day. Shorter work hours, upgraded working conditions, and age requirements were all changes in the system of child labor from 1802 to 1878. In 1885 a law was passed stating children were under the age of twelve they could only use the breakers, but if kids were under twelve they could mine.

Child labor during the 18th and 19th century did not only rapidly develop an industrial revolution, but it also created a situation of difficulty and abuse by depriving children of edjucation, good physical health, and the proper emotional wellness and stability. In the late 1700 's and early 1800 's, power-driven machines replaced hand labor for making most manufactured items. Many of America 's factories needed a numerous amount of workers for a cheap salary. Because of this, the amount of child laborers have been growing rapidly over the early 1800s.

The Enlightenment was a time period in which people began to embrace individuality and many Enlightenment thinkers arose. The Enlightenment was a movement that was highly based upon reason and logic. It occurred around the mid-1700’s and helped develop a new way of life. John Locke was an influential thinker during this time. John Locke is a french philosopher and writer who developed Natural Rights.
