Being a double economics and mathematics major student at Union College shaped me to be an economics PhD candidate with strong academic backgrounds and various research experiences. Math strengthens my logical thinking and economics integrates my thinking abilities in practical applications, such as analyzing China’s trade. After taking macroeconomics, I was assigned as an official tutor for that course. The experience of being the first sophomore economics tutor both improved my oral English skills and upgraded my understanding of course materials from learning-level to explaining and exploring-level by helping other students. When I was taking Seminar in the Global Economic Issues with Professor Sener, I realized the international economy …show more content…
Therefore, I applied Union College Summer Research Fellows to do a research about analyzing the changing tendency of China’s trade policy after 1993 with a Policy Science Professor. Meanwhile, I decided to compress my two-term Seward honor project into six weeks in summer to save me more spaces learning new knowledge in coming terms. After discussing with my advisor, Professor Motahar, my honor project was to analyzing the behaviors of Chinese currency. If Econometrics taught me how to establish and analyze model, Regression Analysis taught me how to take a look at the model itself from statistical aspects. Therefore, I used predictive analytics to analyze students’ academic behaviors at Union College with Professor Dvorak during the same summer. When I was working on my senior economic thesis, I was fascinated about nearly all my courses and researches could be combined together in my potential thesis paper about analyzing and predicting China’s economic growth. Specifically, my Econometrics paper about trade between China and the U.S. provides me with a good intention about the role trade plays in developing economy. The paper about the impact of international trade on Chinese regional inequality that I wrote in the Seminar in Global Economic Issues prepares me with the idea about how trade affects China inside. The International Economic course prepares me with theory and empirical study about China’s trade. Also, my summer research provides me with political background behind China’s trade and my honor project about Chinese currency inspires me to connect currency with
Nate Silver’s The Signal and the Noise: Why So Many Predictions Fails- But Some Don’t serves as a guide to ordinary citizens on the dangers and benefits of prediction and forecasting in modern society. The book criticizes many of society’s so-called “experts and authorities” for their incorrect usage of statistical methodologies. Silver illustrates the statistical problems and progress that society has made through the usage of multiple examples and professions ranging from baseball predictions to seismology.
As a student in Agribusiness I have learned so many skills that will help me succeed in my career. I have a full understanding of how economics applies specifically to agriculture benefits, how I am learning and applied my knowledge in my other economic classes. With the learning I have done in this class I will be able to have a more knowledgeable conversation with my future employers and co-workers and make valuable contributions to my
In the American society, it seems two of the things that are mentioned the most are money and education. What most of us do not think about is the correlation of economics to education. Economics has a big effect on our expectations of educational environments over time. It seems that more and more money is going into schools but nothing is changing in them. Schools are still cutting out electives and still can’t afford some of the basic things that students should have in their learning environment.
With the sudden introduction of international trade, Western culture began to bleed into China with the introduction of products like bread, coffee or matches, as well as ideas with books published on the foreign political ideas, social structures and economies.
My parents always asked my brother, "How are you going to afford college with a McDonald 's salary?". College is expensive; every year we hear about the enormous amounts of loans college students will have at the end of the year. Due to this, society should encourage and keep allowing juniors and high school seniors to take Dual Credit classes in Pflugerville schools. Although scholarships and grants alleviate some of the costs, the amount of loans that students take out is very high; in 2010 "[student loan debt] outpaced credit card debt" (38).
I think how it related to college level statistic course is in further study we will meet a lot of similar cases and we need to understand why things are happening in a particular way. The only way we can accomplish that is by learning the data and trying to find the relevance and pattern. Truth is always behind the data!!! Study statistic can have huge of positive impact on our further education. For example, when we need to make a presentation or a scientific document, we can use nice graphs and table to show our viewpoint; when we make a decision we can calculate or estimate the result and make a best choice.
There were many aspects that I found interesting about this field and the information that the speaker provided the class with. The fact that a person in this field needs to know the trade laws for all around the world is extremely interesting. It is important that the worker stays up to date on this information because it would have an extremely large impact on the business that they are working with if they do not know their information. These laws are always changing and every country has slight variations to each and every law. The amount of knowledge that a person in this field is very impressive.
There were three classes in particular that stood out to me as classes I would be interested in taking, that would fill in the gaps that this course could not: “International Political Economy”, “Wealth and Culture”, and “Global Inequalities”. “International Political Economy”
My study in Home Economics has provided me with a broad spectrum of knowledge on many disciplines from nutrition to sociology that are relevant to this course. English has taught me how to use critical thinking skills
The process of globalization, and its impact on economic growth have become the defining influence on the development of modern China. China 's integration into the global economic system has been a multifaceted and complex process, and one that China appears exceptionally eager to embrace. Encompassing domestic policy shifts, engagement with both global and regional institutions, as well as bilateral agreements with various countries, globalization has been an impressively orchestrated process initiated by the very top of the CCP. While advocates of globalization tout the growth of China as proof of its merits, analyzing the actual effects on the ground reveals a much more nuanced reality. Globalization has undoubtedly brought China more wealth and power, but it has also generated a host of other effects, both positive and negative.

I was immersed in a disappointment, and feelings of helplessness throughout the freshman year. Fortunately, the second degree option rekindled my extinct passion. Without hesitation, I chose Business Administration as my second major, which was the only option offered by Economic and Management College. Accounting Principles was the first subject that enabled me to gain insights into Accounting, the deeper I got myself involved in this subject, the more I found it fascinating. Also, I have taken inspiration from my internship experience.
The art of argument persuasion I’ve learned in this course is so beneficial for my marketing major. Other than that, it made me develop the essay writing skills necessary for success in my studies at the university level. This English course also taught me how powerful written words can be, and how the delivery of the tone is important for the reader. The tone of a narrative is different than the tone of a research, where the difference makes the paper. Also, the power in written words tells how much it is crucial to mankind.
Since learning AP Economics in my high school year, I have always desired to further my studies in economics. More specifically, I have wanted to study international relations in economics. Recently, Donald Trump has won the presidential election and his inauguration is expected to bring huge change in the world’s economy and foreign policies. These emerging crises have come to my attention and have sparked my curiosity. By applying for PEARL at Keio University, I plan to gain further insight into the topic.
Trade and Finance International economics is a broad
