Becoming a dental assistant is something that I have had a desire to do for three years. I had braces for three years, and throughout that time I was in and out of the dental office. Seeing the way these assistants helped my teeth and confidence was amazing. I realize I need to help people. With my background being a CNA for just a little over two years, I have learned to care for people in various ways. Being able to help people the way others have helped me has me striving to give back to people. Being a dental assistant will give me the opportunity to help people in many different ways. Before I visited the dental office, I expected that a dental assistant would just be standing around the dentist giving him tools, and recording what the …show more content…
They did cleanings, record keeping, and various tasks. Including taking x-rays of the teeth, putting the utensils in a sterilizing machine, prepping the exam room, and cleaning the room before and after the appointment. From my many observations, I believe I will enjoy taking x-rays as a dental assistant the most. I feel this way because I have an interest in radiology. Before I fully committed to dentistry, I was aiming to be a radiologist technologist. The way the x-ray process works so quickly and efficiently is fascinating. I will also enjoy the communication aspect. The entire experience between patients and various coworkers seems friendly and inviting. Having that in a workplace is something a strive to have. I really look forward to it. Out of the day-to-day work life of assistants, I observed some things I think I would enjoy the least, which would be patients with anxiety. I observed this in the dental office and it made me nervous just watching. Seeing the fidgeting of the patient's fingers, and the squirming around. Being able to pick up their body language made it very noticeable they were nervous as well. When the patients would start talking more it was an indicator to me that they were trying to put a hold on the procedure. I would try to help them as much as I could, by explaining what I will be doing and how it will help them. I will have to work on working with anxiety to help me overcome this
Rotation one was a morning shift, I got to experience how the Phlebotomist do morning draws. They all go to different departments. We drew some timed draws, I saw some patients that were not able to identify themselves therefore; we had to look at their wrist band and match the labels to make sure we drew the correct person. The morning draws are usually for all patients, some of the patients were still sleeping; we had to knock and wake them up. Most of the patients where elderly, I liked how the Phlebotomist asked the patients if they needed anything before leaving their room; I thought this was kind of him.
If I had to choose one activity to pursue, I would go with activity number one: assistant at Drake Dental. I would choose this one primary because it involves helping others. “We rise by lifting others” is a quote that resonates with me as I believe strongly in its message. My job, while it may be insignificant compared to others around the office, involves helping others by making sure everything runs smoothly. Whether it be scheduling an appointment, or simply greeting the patient as they walk in, my job is to ensure that the patient feels satisfied with their dental experience.
They are trained to understand the many dental issues that can arise and to be able to spot problems by looking at x-rays and other images of the mouth. Their main goal is to avoid gum disease, tooth loss, and other problems by knowing proper care to provide patients. After assessing a patient's mouth they will come up with a diagnostic of the problem with their patient. From there they will come up with a plan to treat the patient and prevent something from happening again. Whether this is from a procedure or something they do at home, their job is to educate their patients on the diagnosis.

As a student pursuing dental assisting, I am dedicated to embodying the core values of service, team player, and innovation in my work. To me, service means putting the needs of others before mine and going above and beyond to provide satisfaction and comfort for others. When I become a dental assistant, I will strive to create a warm and welcoming environment that calms any existing nerves the patient may have. I would always have a kind and approachable demeanor and take the time to hear any concerns or questions the patient may have. Service is an important aspect of life to me.
Out of all the careers in the world, a dental hygienist probably has one of the most interesting and flexible job for me. Not only is this career interesting and flexible, but it is also very helpful towards others and usually pays well
There are over two-hundred jobs in the health field and this number seems to be increasing as the years go by. Some of these jobs involve interaction with people and their families and others allow you to have no interaction with people at all. I, myself, enjoy being able to help anyone in any way possible. A few jobs in the health field that interest me are a Physician’s Assistant (PA), Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), and an Athletic Trainer (AT).
During my placement I worked alongside the dental hygienist, this gave me insight on the daily role of a dental hygienist and therapist. Before dental nursing I studied BTEC Applied Science Level 3. The course involved extensive study of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
I want to be a physician because I want people to grow old. At the age of 6, one of my closest friends was diagnosed with leukemia. By age 8, the disease claimed his life, robbing him of the opportunity to experience the privilege of growing old. Unfortunately, we live in a society of vanity. We see the process of aging and choose not to embrace it.
Dental assistants support dental specialists or dentists in carrying out dental routine. A dental assistant is not the real dental operator that performs on patients but only an assistant to the licensed dentist. Aspirants of dental assisting career need to attend a dental assisting program at either college or tech school so as to acquire a diploma, certificate or degree. The duration of the program depends on the type of certification targeted. The program comprises both theory and practical.
The feeling of fulfillment and reassurance that is gained when successfully helping someone out with their problems or struggles is a great thing. Not only does it help with others' problems, but it also helps with an increase in well-being and self-esteem. There are a multitude of ways to help others, including certain jobs. I like the idea of being able to help and provide for others. With that being said, I’ve chosen Athletic Trainer, Firefighter, and Homicide investigator as a couple of jobs to talk about.
Alos, if a patient had/has braces, I would be the one to check retainers, take off wires, repair damaged hardware for their mouth, make new retainer, and but new rubber bands around their brackets. Being a dental assistant combines focus, physical fitness, a caring heart, and precision, all in
It was getting closer to start actually working with strangers and real residents. This was my first real job. It was out of my comfort zone to actually help someone and get in their personal space. I was afraid I would do something wrong. What I learned working in the nursing home was you had to have a lot of patience and I also learned to appreciate older people
They will also distract them by having mini conversations or have a conversation with each other (dentist and assistant) when the patients is going through surgery. This makes the patient be focused on the conversation then what’s going on with the
This work experience has been extremely helpful and rewarding to me and the patients that I have been in contact with. This job field has also been important while deciding to become and occupational therapy assistant. I have learned
