Definition Essay: What Does Freedom Means To Me

A person could argue that freedom creates its own problems and that people are at times abusive of these. However, we live in a country that has these freedoms so valued, it can be found in our national anthem. While there may be always abuses made upon it, we can only hope that the United States will always continue to be the land of the free and the home of the brave. Understanding the importance of freedom and why we have to continually fight for it, is to look at all the ways it has been fought for.

Freedom can have many meetings to many people. Freedom to some may mean to be free in a trapped society filled with rules and regulations. Freedom can be revealed to the naked eye in things such as laws, organizations, and even clubs. Freedom to me is living your life however you choose, wherever you choose, and whenever you choose to do so. Angela Davis had once lost those privileges.

Freedom has been the central belief of America since the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Since this day, America has worked hard to keep the idea that America is the “land of the free.” However, throughout the construction of this nation, freedom was defined differently by each person. Freedom to African Americans meant liberty from enslavement and land ownership. Freedom to Europeans meant freedom of religion and government.

Freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. The foundation of America is freedom. Freedom from Britain. However, the freedom is limited to white males who own property. When colonists started to immigrate to America, they wanted to escape from under the rule of Britain.

Webster Dictionary defines freedom as a “political right”. To me, freedom is much more than that. Freedom gives me and the people of America the right to do anything we want; it allows us to be ourselves no matter where you come from, or who you are. Unfortunately, America has not always been this way; people of different races were treated like trash on the sidewalk. Frederick Douglass had a first-hand experience to this treatment, and he knew what it was like before America allowed everyone to actually be “free”.

According to dictionary.com, freedom means “political or national independents”, but in reality it means much more than that. During the revolutionary war, four thousand four hundred and thirty-five lives were lost in order to gain independence and freedom for all Americans. I believe that freedom means that people can express themselves however they want and that they can make decisions for themselves. I think that this is true because people can choose their religion, have the freedom of speech, and can stand up for what they believe is right. Freedom of religion was part of the First Amendment to the Declaration of Independence, which means that people are able to choose their religion and can freely worship.

Freedom is a right. Freedom was given to us by the Founding Fathers. Freedom gives us no restrictions. The First Amendment gives us citizens the right to freedom of speech, allowing us to talk about our beliefs without restriction. Freedom gives us the right to help others through hard times and improve our communities.

Freedom is a concept that can be defined by many things, from the freedom we earned from the American revolution to pure independence at its core. We need our independence, and in the novel Brave New World, there is no such thing as individual freedom. Freedom has been sacrificed for stability through manipulation, and genetic modification. Controlled by a single world governing body, this society is manipulated and regulated constantly through selective breeding. From birth, humans are scientifically altered to fit their destined path according to their social class.

What is freedom? Is it an absolute right or is it something we can live without it? People born to be free. Throughout history freedom defined differently according to different cultures and different period of time. Freedom shows an alteration cultures to culture.

I don’t believe, like some do, that it’s naive to talk to Republicans. I don’t think we should look at Republicans as our enemies. They are our opposition. They are not our enemies.”

With freedom we can have our own opinions. Our freedom is very important, without freedom we wouldn’t be able to enjoy some of the things we do today, like being able to say The Pledge. Some of the things that freedom allows me to do are go to school and get an education.

What is freedom mean to me? Each moment of everyday, of every year, I am free to think, do, and say what I want. Freedom is something I truly value in my everyday, for it is the reason these Freedom is my power to express myself.

Freedom means you are not restricted or you are privileged or freed. As a U.S citizen I have so much freedom. As an American I can say what I want and believe what I want. Freedom means so much to me because it allows me to live my life almost entirely how I want. Americans have so many more freedoms compared to citizens in other countries such as North Korea and China.

What does freedom mean to me? According to the encyclopedia freedom is a synonym for liberty . Our country's freedom is based on our Constitution and Bill of Rights which were put in place on March 4 ,1789. The Bill of Rights guarantee many freedoms such as the right to bear arms. I believe freedom is not being controlled , going where you want , and living your life how you want.

Freedom is the correction to do what he/she wants, live life, and eat what he/she wants. How do we live free? We live free by not judging other people’s freedom rights. Everyone has their own rights.
