A flurry of words. Car accident. Head injury. Seizure. Surgery. It left a bad taste in Darry’s mouth. The doctors weren’t that helpful either. Their short, clipped words and clinical dealings with people. More information once Soda was out of surgery before bustling away to ‘help’ another family desperately seeking answers. It’s only two hours but it feels so much longer. Each second ticking past as Darry and Ponyboy sit in the surgical wards waiting room. The clock on the wall counts the minutes, the ticking sounding like a heartbeat in Darry’s head. Counting seems to help - every second he counts is a second more that Soda is alive past closed doors. Ponyboy sits with his knees tucked up underneath his chin in the uncomfortable molded …show more content…
Chapman pulls one of the other chairs around and sits facing them. “How’s Soda?” Darry asks quickly. “Sodapop made it through the surgery,” Dr. Chapman assures quickly, noticing the worry evident in Darry’s usually stoic face. “ “The surgery went well, with no complications. However Sodapop did suffer from a subdural hematoma-bleeding on the brain. So we performed a craniotomy to stop the bleeding," Dr. Chapman pauses as though for dramatic effect before continuing. "We inserted an ICP monitor to observe the pressure on his brain, as well as the swelling. We’ll remove that after several days when the pressure in his skull returns to a satisfactory level. He also has a small hairline skull fracture," Chapman paused again. "We’re going to keep him in a drug induced coma for a few days. Just so to give his brain and body a chance to heal." “How long?” Ponyboy asks fearing for his brothers life. Dr. Chapman looks at the younger Curtis - a hint of sadness present in his grey-blue eyes - before sighing a little. “No more than four to five days and then we’ll begin to lighten the sedatives and let him wake up slowly on his own,” he turns to Darry. “After the drugs wear off it could be a matter of hours or several days before he 's fully
As the name of the story suggests, the story revolves around Dunk and Egg. Dunk is the nickname of Sir Duncan the Tall, while Egg is the nickname of Prince Aegon Targaryen. The story starts off with Dunk burying Sir Arlan of Pennytree, whom he has squired for years. After being knighted shortly before Sir Arlan died on his deathbed, Dunk decides to try playing for the tournament in Ashford. On the way to Ashford, he stumbles upon an inn, where he saw an opportunity to sit down and have a hot meal, which he hasn’t had in days.
First, he needs care for himself. In foster care he would learn to trust people. According to the book it says he trusted no one but himself. Foster care will believe in him and trust him because his bothers were never there for him. Ponyboy there will get help and support for his nessary and for himself.
Ponyboy and Johnny meet up with Dally and go to the Nightly Double drive-in theatre. Once inside, they sit in the chairs by the concession stand, where they meet up with two female Socs. Cherry, Valance, and Marcia have left their boyfriends here at the drive-in because the boy's want to drink and the two girls do not. The girls are the target of Dally's nasty and rude comments, but he buys them sodas to "cool them off." Cherry throws her soda into Dally's face and the situation is tense until Johnny steps in to defend her.
This didn't make sense to Ponyboy yet. After running from the police when johnny stabbed Bob a soc they find themselves in an abandoned church. When Ponyboy returns to society after being in the hospital. He finds himself meeting with Randy, Bob's best friend. Pony is suppried when Randy tells him that he's sorry for Pony and how Bob's parents never gave him limits.
Ponyboy has a very tragic plight, filled with violence and confusion. Ponyboy is mixed up at the church and cries to Johnny, “I’m just mixed up” (73). When Ponyboy is at the church, he is in a difficult situation because he is accused of murder and is there. Ponyboy is mixed up because of all of this. He tries to change on the outside by cutting and bleaching his hair.
When Ponyboy starts school again after getting home from the hospital, he and Darry get into a fuss, about the fourth one they’d had that week. Ponyboy shouts, “What’s the sweat about my schoolwork... I’ll have to get a job as soon as I get out of school... you can just lay off!” (173)
Ponyboy should stay with his family and friends. While there are many statements supporting sending him to a foster home there is also good reasoning for keeping him here with Darry and Soda. ¨The jury has reached a decision,¨ I stated, ¨they have decided to keep Ponyboy with Darry and Soda.¨ the reasons for which he was staying were simple. His family was supporting, he could learn protection for self defense only, and because they can more than likely care for him better than a foster home
Pony is smart in school, but does not have much common sense. Darry’s determination to sacrifice his needs for Pony and Soda allow him to understand his role as a
A hero can be anyone around you. A hero is a person who is strong, has courage, helps others, and does good deeds. Ponyboy deserves to be considered a hero. Johnny also deserves to be considered a hero too. Dally does not deserve to be considered a hero though, unlike Ponyboy and Johnny.
Ponyboy soon finds out that his behaviors impacts others.
We are here at court today to debating whether Pony boy should go to foster care or not. He should not go because he would feel like nobody wants him. Foster Care is the worst place to send a child. When a child is sent off and they are not they could start changing their attitude and, become rebellious. There are about 2,000,000 millions of children that always get sent off to foster care, because they are not wanted.
The patient then proceeded to become confused and disorientated. He was then discharged to a nursing home facility until he was cleared by his psychiatrists. After he was discharged, he failed to keep taking his antibiotics to eliminate the infection. He returned to the hospital several weeks later with a grossly purulent knee. The surgeons concluded that the only way for the infection to be controlled, was for the components of the knee replacement to be removed.
To illustrate, it is said in the book that “Then there were shouts and the pounding of feet, and the Socs jumped up and left me lying there, gasping …. By then I had figured that all the noise I had heard was the gang coming to rescue me” (6-7). This shows that Ponyboy’s friends came to the rescue and saved him from the Socs when they heard him yelling. If not for these friends, Ponyboy could have been seriously injured, or even killed. Moreover, S.E. Hinton wrote, “Johnny asked no questions.
If Ponyboy stayed with his brothers, he would feel cared for and would be supervised by a loving person. Although some people assume that Ponyboy would not be looked out for under the supervision of his brothers and that nobody would think of him, that is not true. For Example Johnny said, “I’m going to turn myself in, it ain’t fair for Ponyboy to have to stay up in that church with Darry and Sodapop worryin’ about him all the time”.(87) This shows that he is cared for.
Ponyboy can never have no worries when he is walking home all by himself, not knowing what could happen next. To add on, Johnny one of Ponyboy’s good friends is the most cautious and scared one of the group. He was jumped by many Socs one night and had gotten beat up very badly. Ever since then, he never walked by himself and was very anxious. In fact, Johnny is so scared, that he carries a switchblade in his pocket,
