Paula Cortez: A Case Study

Angela Arviso Rodriguez is requesting an institutional verification of her linguistic background to apply for a time extension to Pearson. She graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Elementary Education back in 2006. Angela will be taking the NES Elementary Education Subtest I & II. Angela has been teaching the past ten years; first at Yuma High school and she is currently teaching at Immaculate Conception middle school grade 7th to 8th.

As I read the case study of Almeada and baby Anne, I was inspired by her case manager Barbra LaRosa, she provided social care and became the “bridge” between Almeade and the systems. One function of bridging is to narrow the gap between the services being offered and the needs of the individuals who are receiving those services. (Woodside, M. R. (2015). An Introduction to the Human Services, 8th Edition) Ms. LaRosa applied social care to Almeada while she was pregnant with baby Anne, she recognized Almeada's problems in living and since she worked at the school, and Almeada had not returned from summer break, she reached out to her to see what was going on and learn more about her life.

It directs people to acquire knowledge to identify and use the resources. Social work studies individual problems as well as social issues which create hindrance to people in their walks of life. Social workers employ an adequate skills, techniques, strategies, principles, and activities at various system levels, for maintaining a system or for system change efforts. Social work practice makes us understand various forms of therapy and counseling, group work, and community work; policy formulation and analysis; and advocacy and political interventions. Social work practice is aimed at increasing people 's hope, self-esteem and creative potential to confront and challenge oppressive power dynamics and structural sources of injustices, thus merging consistently e the micro-macro, personal-political dimension of intervention.

By establishing a worker/client relationship, this will provide Laura with a secure base to operate from in the future. She will be able to confidently explore her historical, current, and future relationship with her mother knowing that she can receive comfort and reassurance from me, her social worker. Once she recognizes this secure base, I will assist her in discovering how she currently handles her relationship with her mother. During this relational discovery process with her mother, I will also allow her to explore her relationship with me, showing Laura how her previous ways of dealing with others could be positively changed through the change of her various internal behavioral models. Through this social worker and client relationship exploration, Laura will discover how her current perceptions of her mother are connected to expectations from their relationship when she was a child, providing her the opportunity to view the current relationship differently.

The way a person thinks about health, “whether that is our ‘philosophy’, our ‘worldview’, our ‘framework’ influences what we do as individuals in practice,” as well as how we deliver the health service. These elements allow us to think about healthcare in our own culturally acceptable way, this isn’t always an acceptable way of delivering the service to people with views different to our own. Cultural competence is an approach that aids in influencing the service and the education of healthcare professionals. (Taylor, K., & Guerin, P., 2010). Cultural competence is defined as a knowledge and understanding of cultures, histories and contemporary realities and awareness of protocols, combined with the proficiency to engage and work effectively in a cultural context congruent to the expectations of the people of that culture.

Being a social worker is often a challenging, yet rewarding career. Social workers are responsible for helping individuals, families, and groups of people to cope with problems they’re facing to improve their patients’ lives. Social workers are also trained caseworkers in social service agencies who perform several functions which they use different components of the practice framework, the theoretical underpinnings to in order to build helping relationships. After interviewing a caseworker in a specific social agency there were advantages and disadvantages of methods along with challenges encountered in working in that specific agency. With all of this the functions, roles and responsibilities of a caseworker is what helps any agency to uphold

Competent social workers assess a client system by using theories, models and perspectives. Social workers gather, organize and study all the information obtained. The systems theory works well for the purposes of this paper. It incorporates the ecological perspective, life model and ecosystems perspective. The author of this paper will show how these approaches can create an effective plan change.

Firstly, about its integrated features, it combined the strengths of various theories which describe human behavior helpfully. Secondly, the concepts of person-in-environment introduce the behaviors of individuals interconnect with families, organizations, local communities and so on. A) Values and ideology: Describe the values of social work and ideology that you think are most important to your future practice and why you have selected them? The values and ideologies that are most important to my future practice include respect for the inherent dignity and worth of persons, service to humanity and competence in professional practice. First, my value of providing respect for the inherent dignity and worth of persons is important to me and my future practice because it allows me to see the uniqueness in all my clients and subsequent cases. Moreover, it further guides me to allow my clients to be self-determined individuals.

According to Jacqueline Corcoran (2011), people were basically viewed in terms of their pathologies, weaknesses, limitations, and problems. However, in strengths-based models, in contrast, the helper, in collaboration with the client system, identifies and amplifies existing client system capacities to resolve problems and improve quality of life. Strengths-based approaches can be viewed as respectful toward and empowering of the oppressed and vulnerable people to which the field of social work traditionally has been committed (Corcoran,

Human development happens continuously throughout ones lifespan as we develop and change. Genes exemplify biological factors in human development. Some biological factors are visible, for example skin tone and hair color. Some biological factors are unobserved, for instance genetic abnormalities and risks for diseases. From a biopsychosocial perspective what one becomes is the product of genes, or biological forces.

The community has symbols that creates meaning, also contributing to their identification, because of those symbols a social worker get to be able to work with clients. STRENGTH The relationship between meaning of symbols and a person’s behavior, this theory provides a bond between how an individual behaves is related to the meaning of objects and events. Provides the ability to understand small scale human interaction, it enables the understanding of family interaction. Recognizes that beliefs and opinions of reality are changeable, the belief people have on something can actually change and become part of reality.

Both the theories dismiss the idea of linear process of problem solving. 4. The system theory wasn’t originally developed for social work practice, and was used by the social workers as they were relevant. Considering that, the situation is difficult, as the object of social help is personality that is understood as a unique and solid system which is dynamic in itself. So the social worker in the process of social help encounters himself with the challenge to help a person to primarily restore his worthiness which would let him to solve his problems and not, conversely, resign and live with them. Yet the social work actually still impresses with its aspirations more than with concrete and tangible achievements or prestige (Kavaliauskienė, 2005). The objective of a social worker is noble, but often he confronts himself with unsolvable tasks. This situation raises because of the twofold orientation of social work: on one hand, it is directed towards a person, but on the other hand, to the society; that is, the direction goes towards a whole and towards its part – the community and the individual – by trying to reach their interaction and consistency.
