Continental Congress Grievances

In the first continental congress was a response to the Intolerable Acts. Which states in USHistory.com that the act was the reaction to the Boston Tea Party (Pre Columbian to the New Millennium, 1). The harbor was close for trade because the owners wanted their money for the tea (Pre Columbian to the New Millennium, 1). The battle of Lexington, the British probably assume that the rebels would’ve just given up.

It was the year 1765, and our 13 colonies were not too thrilled. My family are the Keaheys--Meghan, Liam, Mama, and Dada. My family lived in New York, NY, and we heard quite a bit about the Stamp Act. It started on March 22, 1765. The British Parliament imposed a tax on all American colonists.

Eventually, the Patriot leaders wanted to meet to discuss going to war with Britain to gain independence. Further attacks in the South in Virginia and North Carolina led to armed forces within in the colonies to join to fight against the evil royal monarchy. The people boycotted and refuse to buy the things Britain taxed. Then to make things worse, Britain authorize “writs of assistance” in 1767,which let the soldiers search any homes that the they thought smuggled goods. Then the Sugar Act which taxed sugar in 1764. Next the Stamp Act in 1765 that taxed almost all printed goods.

The Tea Acts passed by Parliament started the colonists down the path of anger. The Tea Acts were caused by the East India Company going bankrupt that is the reason the colonist got taxed in the first place. The East India Company was running out of money and they were acquainted with the colonies government so to help out the company the government of the colonies agreed to taxes the colonist

The French and Indian War of 1754 The war was started by the French and British on the same claims. Indians were crucial in the war they were allies to both sides of the war. The British were the strongest army in the entire world at the time but it wasn’t the easiest for Britain, their army was strong but it took them quite a while to defeat the french. The British won and kicked out the french from America permanently.

The increase of taxation led to a crisis from colonial people. Riots were established to those who initiated or supported the taxes, stealing everything from some members homes but the foundation and walls. Groups were formed of colonialists who sought liberty, declared the excessive taxation as unconstitutional and fought to protect what they felt were consumer rights. This all lead to the great American revolution in which once the Stamp Act was placed by the parliament, colonial society then produced a stamp act congress to counteract the parliaments decision. This establishment led to the Continental Congress, which eventually separated the colonies from the parliament to then govern themselves and cut ties to the English Crown moving towards

The Stamp Act was one of the thirteen events that lead up to the Revolutionary War. The Stamp Act was enforced by Parliament that required printed materials to be on stamped paper, which had an embossed revenue stamp, and was passed on March 22, 1765. After the Sugar Act in 1764, Parliament announced that when the Sugar Act was passed they would also consider a stamp tax in the colonies. Although opposition to this possible tax from the colonies was coming soon, there was barely expectation in Britain, either by members of Parliament or American agents in Britain like Benjamin Franklin, the intensity of the protest that the tax would evolve. The British’s debt forced them into a position to impose large taxes on the colonists but much to the colonists discontent. Beginning with the Stamp and Sugar acts which were taxes put on by the British government. The stamp act taxed any paper product; for example, letters, certificates, or any printed material were colonists were required to pay a tax on, which hurt business owners. The sugar act was a tax put on any sugar that was sent to the colonies. These taxes greatly angered the colonists and their frustrations derived from the idea of “no taxation without representation.”

The British knowingly taxed the colonists without their consent or representation, so it was basically bullying and the colonies couldn't stop it (Document 8). They also forced many unfair taxes on to them that made their economic activity significantly harder. One of these major taxes was the stamp act, which basically made it so every single printed item a person would buy they had to pay a small fee or tax (Document 4). The stamp act, however, was not the only thing. The British also stationed 10,000 troops along the frontiers costing the colonies causing even more tax being applied (Document 3).

There was no singular event that led to the American Revolution however, there were long-term causes that were brought to the forefront because of short-term events. Many of these long-term causes were tax acts that were being placed on the colonies to help Britain pay debt that was inquired during the war with France. These tax acts included the Sugar Act of 1764, the Quartering Act of 1765, and the Townshend Acts of 1767. These acts required the colonies to pay taxes on coffee, tea, paper, and other item, while at the same time forcing them to feed and house british soldiers (Schultz, 2014 pp. 84-90).

I’m going to tell you all about the stamp act and what it did how people rioted because of it.. The Stamp Act was new tax imposed on all printed paper products. It was passed on March 22,1765 by the British parliament. “What was the whole purpose for the Stamp Act?” “The purpose for the Stamp Act was to collect money and pay the cost of defending and protecting the American frontier.

A revolution is the bringing of a new start. Like many other revolutions throughout the years, the American Revolution is the perfect example of this. The effects of a revolution not only on the people but on society as well, can be detrimental. Many of these effects included closing the Boston harbor, passing the Intolerable Act, British government refused to address American complaints, and the colonists felt the British government was increasingly corrupt and autocratic empire in which their traditional liberties were threatened. During the American Revolution boycotts were a key example of the effects a revolution can have on its government.

The cause which most likely sparked and was largely responsible for the start of the American Revolution was the Quartering Act. It was a series of laws passed that were meant to punish the British tea party. One reason this act angered them the most was that it forced every colonist to be willing to give up their homes to the British soldiers. By law, you had to provide room and board for the said soldiers- no matter where it was. Another reason that the colonist would be most angered by this series of laws is that it created divinity and privilege between the soldiers and the colonists, as they were being forced to provide for them.
