Fahrenheit 451 is a novel written by Ray Bradbury that is set in the future, telling a story of a time where books and thinking by yourself are banned and frowned upon. In a time so dark, where people who want to improve their own being by thinking for themselves, are eventually apprehended and killed. Books and evidence of self-thinking are demolished, books are burned to a crisp, whereas ideas becomes a danger to society. In the story, Bradbury uses a bunch of literary techniques. He especially uses rhetorical devices with Beatty as he uses them to try and get his message through to Montag.

Another way the novel reflects Bradbury’s life is how society went under numerous lifestyle changes. After World War II, big items such as appliances and televisions became more affordable to the middle class, causing such an increase in economic prosperity. There was a change in music from the country-folk genre to a more jazz and rock and roll type. According to Livinghistoryfarm.org, many people were migrating North for jobs, and they brought their culture and music with them. During the late 1940s and early 1950s, there was a huge amount of money being spent on new appliances.

This story remains me to The Veldt, the first story of the book. In both stories, the characters resort to the use of technology to have a better life, but the abuse of technology did not have good results and at the end when the characters wanted to do something about it was too late. Again Ray Bradbury with his stories tells how the use of the technology is not always the best option.

The setting in the book is emphasized using futuristic details and it depicts that the setting can be illustrated as similar to today’s modern society. In Fahrenheit 451, the setting is basically the opposite of a utopian society and a blend of both fantasy and reality. It can also be very dark and depressing. Today, the world is throwing people into reality and is obviously not a utopian society. Although our world can seem peaceful or wonderful, people don’t realize it could also be viewed as scary, depressing, or terrible.

Ray Bradbury was a man of his time. He was able to accurately predict the future in Fahrenheit 451. He shows that our societies are not different. In Montag 's Society people show desensitization, brainlessness, and self-centeredness. The streets are shown everywhere in the 21st-century.
