Compare And Contrast The Role Of Technology In The Han And Roman Empires

Gunpowder empire are very similar and complex in the same way. They grew empires and provided empires with deadly weapons at the same time. I personally think that gunpowder helped grow empires because they were able to defeat many empires at a faster rate since battles didn't last all day. The Russians expanded their territory because they had gunpowder. Portugal was able to defend their ships better because they had cannons.

The Han Dynasty and the Roman Empire. The Han dynasty Empire and the Roman empire stood large and mighty at the start of the Common Era, with the two kingdoms controlling an unprecedented mass amount of populations under their reign. Both kingdoms rose as predecessors from previous political systems that extended lands under one rule, with the Roman Republic expansion in Europe after the Punic wars and the Qin state achieving conquest over six other nearby states creating the first imperial China in east Asia. The heavy hand of the Qin dynasty and the assassination of Rome’s beloved general, Julius Caesar, by the Roman senate, threw both kingdoms into rebellion, ushering in centuries of imperialistic rule for both in their respective timelines.

The Tang and Song dynasties' innovations during the Golden Ages had an impact on other regions and later periods in history. The innovations were not only used in their lives but are still being used to this day. The Tang and Song dynasties' interests in different cultures allowed them to attain innovative ideas which made advancements in art, music, literature, and technology. From advancements in agriculture and manufacturing to breakthroughs in poetry and printing presses, the Tang and Song dynasties were a time of progress. An innovation during the Tang and Song dynasties which impacted the world was the use of gunpowder.

The Han Dynasty and Roman Empire were prominent globalizing empires that created lasting legacies for many years to come. The empires were able to do what most have failed to do previously. They were both able to successfully incorporate their enemies and neighbors into their realms. In doing so, they were able to amass a population of about 60 million. Even though both empires had many things in common, they exhibited some key distinguishing differences.

The Romans and the Han had similar methods of political control due to the fact that they both used their ancestors as a way to continue their political reign. For example, Roman senators would nominate their sons for public offices and in Han society dynastic control allowed a family to continuously reign. Women also played little to no roles in politics in Rome and Han China; however their methods of political control were different in that the Romans used wealth and property ownership as a deciding factor in appointing political leadership, while the Han was run under a dynasty which granted leadership within the ruling family. The Yuan Dynasty under the Mongol empire has an extensive amount of public works as they built granaries to protect the dynasty from famine, and created large road and water networks. These public works allowed for the people to have large surplus of food and water and also be able to travel in a more organized manner with the road system created (New World Encyclopedia, Country Studies). Everyone in the Yuan dynasty had access to these public works as they were used to the economy and to keep everyone fed. While having these very useful public works the Yuan dynasty also had lots of techniques using technology for warfare and engineering. While using new warfare technology from the Chinese the Yuan were able to create a strategy to take down fortification by studying the way forts were made.

Tu Shih, one of the focuses of this document, was peaceful, an extraordinary planner, and loved common citizens. Document 4 states how spectacular of a leader Tu Shih was and highlights his labor-reducing methods for the common people: “He invented a water-powered blowing-engine for the casting of iron agricultural implements that allowed people to enjoy great benefits for little labor. His invention has been widely adopted and used” (Doc 4). This excerpt is from another document (History of the early Han dynasty), and they present the attitude that technology is a gift from intelligent leaders and enlightened decision makers. This document can be grouped with document 3, also portraying that technology comes from wise, intelligent, sometimes mythological

Lynda Shaffer has a theory called Southernization. Southernization is the theory that the non-West is enhanced by the ideas of the West through interaction and trade. Chinese inventions such as printing, gunpowder and the compass fundamentally changed Europe. The biggest result of the spread of ideas was the end of the Feudal System. Printing was introduced to Europe circa 13th century CE.

Document 6, written by a high official of Rome, emphasizes the brilliance it took a man to construct roads that had “grace and beauty” (Doc 6). This document summarizes how the Romans viewed technology like roads with practical uses, but they cared more about the beautiful architecture of it and how it enhanced the character of Rome. Another piece technology that the Romans valued was the aqueducts as shown by document 8. A Roman general, governor, and water commissioner reports the use of their aqueducts and marvels in the water production compared to other civilizations. The Romans are rarely interested in the improvement of technology unless it benefits and brings pleasure to the entire society, or mainly the upper class.

During the Tang and Song dynasty, China made many new advance things like math,literature,technology,and science. These advancement gave many European empires to struggle for years. Their greatest inventions was the gunpowder,the printer and the compass. Here are some reasons of what was the Tang and Song dynasty greatest achievement of all time    First was the government. The government had to make important decisons that can change the community.

In various ways, Han China and Imperial Rome were politically similar yet also had their pair of differences. Two very well-known classical empires, both had highly advanced political systems for their time; Han China, lasted from 206 B.C.E to 220 C.E, and Imperial Rome, lasted from 31 B.C.E to 476 C.E. Many think these two empires where built with no previous influence, however; the Roman Empire had retained many aspects from the Roman Republic, and Han China from the Qin Dynasty. During their peaks, they controlled the majority of the world 's population because of their constant expansion of conquered lands, while their structure of administration and rule influenced many empires and future societies around the world. Aspects such as these, ultimately, led these two empires to be, arguably, the most influential societies in the world; as their legacies still live on today.

During the era of classical societies, the Han and Roman empires were two vast cosmopolitan societies which dominated regions all throughout Eurasia. In regards to the fall of the Han and Roman empires, both were similar in that they fell victim to internal government decay, but different in that Rome fell to foreign invasions, while Han suffered from rebellions of their own people. The Han and Roman empires were similar in their fall in that they both suffered from internal decay, specifically of their governments. In the Han empire, land distribution problems that were originally sought to be fixed by the “Socialist emperor” Wang Mang allowed large landowners to become even more influential than they previously were.

Islam is a religion that controls their follower's daily lives. It quickly spread throughout many large and small civilizations all throughout the world. Two civilizations that Islam affected were the Byzantine Empire and China. The Byzantine empire was the section of Rome that remained after the fall of Rome and was a very successful civilization in its time. During the rise of Christianity, the Byzantine empire became a Christian-based civilization and used the church to solve its political and economic problems that sprang up after the fall of Rome.

The Han Dynasty in China and the Roman Empire shared many similarities and differences when it came to political rule and the nature of their political authority. The most significant difference between the two is how the Han dynasty enacted policies that were shaped to counter the wrongdoings of the previous Qin dynasty, whereas the Roman Empire enacted policies shaped to create and promote peace and stability. The difference in the two empire’s coming to power was to account for their variance in political rule. After the Qin dynasty, the Han ruled China for four centuries, enacting numerous political changes and governing one of the most efficacious dynasties in Chinese history.

The Roman Empire left a mark on history as one of the largest and most successful empires in history. How much territory did the Roman Empire rule over? At the Roman Empire’s pique, the Empire engulfed the entire Mediterranean and spread all across Western Europe and half of Great Britain.   The Roman Empire was not taken likely by rival empires.
