9. Communication PRESEMESTER KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING Describe your communication style? My communication style is direct and to the point yet respectful and open. I want to let others know exactly what I feel or think while being mindful of other opinions and open to suggestions and feedback. How are other people affected by how you communicate? Other people are affected by how I communicate because their response to me is based on how I communicated with them first or presented my position. If I request a sit-down meeting, that is more personal than an email. How do you communicate most often? I communicate mostly face to face or via email. Because I am very busy this semester with class and activities it is difficult to always meet in person. Thus, email works great for me. What do you think is your biggest communication weakness? My biggest weakness in communicating would have to be changing my style to adapt to my audience. Sometimes my direct approach is not the …show more content…
My personal mission in life is to never give up, never give in, think outside the box, and to be myself. My personal motto in life is that faith, hope, and love are the three greatest gifts in life where love is the most powerful of all. With that in mind, I see myself living life to the fullest. Do you have any ideas about what your career might be? If so, identify them. I feel strongly that I want to be a financial analyst or financial planner when I graduate and pursue a business career. I have always liked handling my own personal finances, and from there I aim to help others manage their money and assets so that they too are successful. Ideas as to what your vocation might be? If so, identify them. I believe my vocation is to be able to help others. I have always been very empathetic and coupling this characteristic with my business drive and skills, I hope to work for a company that tries to make the world a better, safer, and smarter
I hope to one day either be a professional working in vocational ministry in the United Methodist Church or in clinical psychology. Ever since I was very young I have been enthralled by Christian teachings and doing good in the world. In high school, I had the opportunity to work hands on in ministry at my high school through multiple avenues: leading small groups, talking to peers one-on-one, and even giving sermon messages. It was through this that I have come to realize that I love being a part of ministry. When I decided to start considering career paths it only made sense that I would pursue what I already have a great interest in.
5 Cognate Strategies in Writing In Chapter 4 we were able to discuss the Rhetorical elements and Cognate strategies that help us as writers be more effective and efficient. The Cognate strategies were developed by Charles Kostelnick and David Roberts. The word “cognate” refers to knowledge, and these strategies are techniques to impart knowledge to your audience which are effective both in oral and written communication.
My career goal is to become a lawyer in the Juvenile Court System, my goal is to be able to help children in anyway I can. I feel that children are always misunderstood and that all they need is a little bit of guidance to be able help them. Another one of my goals is to take care of foster children, I want to be help take care of them. I have a lot of aspirations, it helps that I have a very big heart and an outgoing spirit. I love helping people, but I feel that I can help children more with the way of life and show them that they should never give up and that someone will always be there to cheer them on even if they fall and with hopefully working Juvenile Court that I would be able to give young children in trouble a better option and
Life has its twists and turns, but my overall life goal is simple, help others. I want to make an impact on others life, even if it is a small change. For instance, being able to hold a pencil is the difference between a student being able to graduate from Kindergarten and not be able to continue on to first grade. Being a Pediatric occupational therapist will help me make an impact on children at a very young age. Even small changes can have a large impacts, which is why I want to be that change for others.
The career that I have decided I would like to have one day is as a veterinarian. I really enjoy and care for animals and love to help them. I have some pets of my own and help them when they need it. I really like science and math and think this job is perfect for me. Being a vet involves a lot of mathematics.
Maya Angelou once stated, “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style” (Angelou). Being passionate and thriving in a career is essential for me to stay motivated and to be able to enjoy my time at work. Throughout my life I have always really liked science and math, and I enjoy the ocean. I have also been very passionate about animals and I would love to help them and protect their habitats. Becoming a veterinarian or marine biologist would allow me to be satisfied going to work each day because they both incorporate my interests.
My own personal mission statement: I aspire to live each day as if it were my last and to live a life full of passion, commitment, continuous improvement, personal growth and determination. Whilst doing so, I wish to learn to love myself, and only then will I automatically receive the love and appreciation that I desire from others. I aim to inspire and touch those around me and leave the world a better place than when I arrived. I will go through life with a smile on my face and a twinkle in my eye, while I strive to fulfil my utmost potential. My personal philosophy: My primary relationship is with myself - all others are mirrors of it.
I have always wanted to help people and to help them better their lives, but I never could figure out how I could make that passion a reality, until the day I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety at age eleven. After that rough period in life, I learned how I could help other people. I could listen to them and try to help them better understand themselves. Life is much easier for a person when they have people who believe in them like a psychologist or therapist. My college plan would be to earn a bachelor, and master degree in Psychology to become a Behavior Analyst.
People always ask me “What do you plan on doing after High School “. My response is always “I Am going to become a dental hygienist “. And I say that statement with confidence. A Dental Hygienist is a licensed dental professional who specializes in preventive oral health. That means they clean a lot of yucky teeth, however dental hygienist is also able to perform other jobs like giving local anesthesia to patients, taking x-rays for the dentist to see and giving advice on how to prevent negative oral health issues.
To meet new people and open myself up to more opportunities I had change the way I communicated a little. Eventually meeting new friends and having conversations with them I picked up on the way other people communicated. This has allowed me to understand how to communicate more appropriately. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses when it comes to interpersonal communications, and personally I am week in the empathy catagory. Empathy is the ability to show understanding of one’s problem or to connect with them emotionally to that situation (Workbook, p.26).
Communication is a very important part of human lifestyle, as it allows for an understanding between people. I make a conscious effort to communicate the same to everyone in order to show that I do not have to change for any particular person. However, I would not talk to a close friend or family member the exact same way as I would a teammate on the baseball team. For this reason, I believe in the necessity of transforming communication styles according to your relation to people. There is a clear difference between communicating professionally and casually.
I know what i want to do in life, i know what degree i need, what job i want, and how much my goal salary will be. I want to be remembered as someone who is very successful and worked hard for their money. My philosophy is, work hard to get to the top, but do what you love to get there. I hope to become a CEO, owner, or senior manager. In my opinion, i am a very good communicator, and i think i would do a great job respectfully but directly communicating and working with my employees to create the best most functional and profitable company that i can.
The two key topics in class in the last weeks, for me. Two of the most relevant topics developed in the last weeks were: non-verbal communication and the barriers to communication. Everytime we communicate with another person or group of people, we have to take into account some factors other than what we are actually saying that can affect how the message is going to be received: body language, tone, intonation, facial expressions, and others; this is what we understand for non-verbal communication. As we saw in class “55% of communication is body language, 38% is the tone of voice, and 7% is the actual words spoken.”
My Personal Mission Statement. It is my mission to live a life of positivity, integrity, compassion and gratitude. To remain committed to my Jewish values and way of life. And to make the world a more meaningful place through developing significant relationships with those around me.
Our body language and non-verbal hints such as eye contact or the lack of it. Our highlighting the positive and negative aspects of our communication styles, skills and effectiveness we all experience when we communicate. In this report, we will study and observe that how effectively communication skills can improve with the example/inspiration taking from a
