A: India The British imperialism had a great impact on India and they wanted to establish and English speaking nation. It started in the 1600s when the East India Trade Company made its way on the trading post. The post made way for the British to export most of their goods back to Great Britain and to take over India. With the armed forces forming with Sepoys and the British army, the military was able the free India from the other European territories. By 1715 the EIC and Britain and completely taken over India after the Battle of Plassey against the French. When the British establish majority rule they took over India’s way of life. They taxed food crops, built armies that consist of the natives, and most of all converted them to English …show more content…
One cause was for the American colonist to be completely free from the British rule. The affect that the Indian and French war made a heavy impact on Britain economically and forced American to pay new and more expensive taxes. The Sugar Act of 1764 raised taxes on sugar and molasses. The Stamp Act (1765), decided that colonial business would have an official stamp on transactions. The Townshend Act (1777) was to apply taxes to all imported glass, lead, paint, paper and tea. The colonists felt like it was an unjust and unfair practice to have “No taxation without representation” and that they were not represented by the British Parliament. King George II sent troops the America because of the boycotts of British goods. After the Boston Tea Party came the Battles of Lexington and Concord, where the colonist took up arms and prepared for battle. The Boston Massacre in 1770 was the turning point the America to gain its independence from the British. The major goal of the American Revolution was accomplished on July 4, 1776 when the Declaration of Independence, written by Thomas Jefferson, was accepted and America became independent from the British …show more content…
This type of fighting was not none to the British. They used small groups to ambush the unexpected British military. They learned this for the Native Americans but they also used the British style of fighting as well. The used the French troops to attach from sea while the American troop attacked from land in Yorktown. They stole food and supplies from the British because funding was not efficient enough. They would also do sneak attacks where the military used minutemen, men who would dress like civilians, to surprise the British. The British troop’s tactics were more simultaneous in which they would line up in formation and fire. The British also used German troops which would give them more number that the
Then I wondered if the British even tried to fight back, and yes they attempted but they didn’t succeed because they range was to far. General Howe wanted to have an attack on Dorchester but that didn’t happen because of a storm so instead he evacuated boston which leaded the Americans to
During the Revolutionary War the British were the strongest naval and land force in the world. This was due to their ability to expertly fight by lining up and firing directly at each other. From the day that America signed the Declaration of Independence to the very end of the Revolutionary War the colonists and General Washington had to use different strategies to defeat the British. The first example of his unconventional methods was at the battle of Yorktown. General Washington and the French had General Cornwallis trapped by land and sea and they forced him to surrender.
All the taxation took its toll on the economic status between the colonists and Britain. Prior to the French and Indian War, the Wool, Hat, and Iron Acts forced Americans to ship materials to Britain to be built, but then later buying the products from them. However mercantilism was soon abandoned when the colonists decided to fight back. The Stamp Act enraged many of the elite colonists, and as Benjamin Franklin states, they wanted to "get it repeal'd" as soon as possible. They chose to boycott, and they chose not to import or consume the product Britain wanted them to, thus the relationship economically between the two places was significantly
Britain practiced this style of fighting, as it had worked for them in the past. The Patriots had adopted an old, yet new to them, style of fighting from the Natives called Guerrilla Warfare largely inspired by Francis “Swamp Fox” Marion. Americans imposed surprise attacks or had riflemen in woods that could pick off British officers from a distance, although this went against “gentleman’s warfare”. In the Battle of Trenton, General Washington and his troops crossed the Delaware River into Trenton and attacked German Hessians based there on Christmas morning. The Hessians
For instance, small groups of Americans would ambush British soldiers marching through the dense, New York forests. They would attempt to shoot British leaders and obscure their path
The British had been preparing for a long time and were prepared for anything that came. So they sent a small group in straight ahead. Then, the rest of the army flanked from the back side and caught the United States majorly off guard (“The Battle Of
Most of the army were militia, “part-time fighters who left their farms and businesses to fight in emergencies,” who were also known as minutemen (Keesee 109). Obviously, they were not trained as well as the British. Their army was made up of regulars, “professional, full-time soldiers who made the military their career.” (Keesee 109) Face-to-face battle versus the British army was not a strength of the Continentals yet. So, Washington’s generals in the west used a tactic against the British that would hurt them throughout the war.
Although the British have fought wars all around the world they weren’t ready for these new tactics. The Colonists used these tactics very strategically. Guerilla warfare was a crucial tactic that helped the Americans win the war. Guerilla
For over a decade before the first battle of the American Revolution took place in 1775, political factors such as the Intolerable Acts and Townshend Acts, formed tension between the colonies and the British officials that eventually sparked a great resistance against the British Crown. The colonies eagerly wanted to gain independence from Great Britain because of the Crowne’s increasing misuse of power. The most meaningful impact that the American Revolution had was gaining the colonies’ independence from Great Britain. This gave them the freedom to now form their own government and make their own laws.
They also laid the groundwork for an insurgency. Moving forward, the British military heard that the colonists were stockpiling weapons. They went into the area looking for the stockpile, but they were not able to find anything. On their way back to boston, they were ambushed by the colonists as they stayed in their nice neat rows. The Americans considered this event called the Lexington Concord the first win.
Imperialism In the 19th and 20th centuries, various powerful nations sent colonizers to dominate weaker nations and expand their influence. This domination is called imperialism, which is still practiced today in moderation. Among the many countries shaped by imperialism were India and China. These two large countries were both colonized by the British who were one of the greatest imperialistic powers at that time.
The British government was not looking for the best of the people. They were only thinking about what they wanted; the government was not interested in what the people wanted so they decided to make decisions on their own, which resulted in changes that form the United States today. Because of this, they were justified in rebelling and declaring independence. One reason why the colonists decided to rebel and declare independence was because of taxation.
The stamp act taxed even the littlest of things such as newspapers, documents, licenses, molasses and even playing cards. It angered the colonists, so they responded with violence.
An Evaluation of Imperialism in India “The reason why the sun never set on the British Empire: God wouldn’t trust an Englishmen in the dark.” Princeton Professor Duncan Spaeth once claimed turning the poetic way of declaring the British as the feared and mighty ruler of the world against them. European imperialism in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries resulted in the carving up of areas of Africa and Asia into vast colonial empires. This was the case for British colonialism in India. As imperialism, or a policy of extending a country 's power and influence through diplomacy or military force, spread the colonizer and the colonies viewed imperialism differently.
The British first came to India not only because of the abundance of raw materials, but also the mass potential they seen. The British East India Company, took advantage of the collapsing Mughal Empire, and broke away from their control to flourished their company. In 1857 the Sepoy army rebelled and that caused the British to come in guns blazing and take over the country. The British rule demolished India through, taxation on anything made in India, and the exportation of raw materials, which caused a plentiful amount of famine, and throughout all of this, the British kept most on India uneducated, and those they did educate, most were forced to become interpreters for the benefits it would make in taking over India and keeping the British in control. Political Paragraph British imperialism had a negative effect on the politics of India because of the corrupt justice system, and the utter lack of respect that killed masses of innocent people.
