Starting this research paper, I was a little freaked out. I began searching for topic on Magnolia, a site I have never used before, and I could not find anything. My heart began to beat hard as I browsed through the website. Finally, after minutes of searching, I found that I wanted to talk about school shootings. After this discovery, I then needed to decide what school shootings to talk about, and if I was going to do a cause and effect essay or a compare and contrast essay. At first I was dead set on writing a cause and effect essay because that was the easy way out for me. When I realized I did not have the material I needed for this type of essay, I had no choice but to do a compare and contrast essay. The hardest part for me was finding …show more content…
I knew this writing thing was going to be pretty easy on me. I sat down with Mrs. Garth and she helped me build my rubric. I am not even going to lie, I got a little nervous. I realized that she was expecting me to write ten to eleven paragraphs. Did I have enough information? How am I going to do this many paragraphs? On top of that, I was then having to face the most difficult part, this essay had to be at least 1,200 words. The first essay we had to write only had to be 700 words. It was very easy to just type 700 words, but 1,200? How in the world could I have that much to say? I knew I had to buckle down now; this research paper was not a joke.
Another struggle not only did I face, but the whole class faced the struggle of not having a set place we could go for Comp one. First we started out in the library, we got kicked out. Then we tried the computer lab, but you guessed it, it was booked up. We were stuck in the old library with no computers, no way of accessing Magnolia, and no way of typing this research paper. My classmates came up with the idea to bring our own laptops. Well, not everyone has their own, so we decided to borrow the school’s Chromebooks. We had a plan, we just might make this
Gladwell article was agreeable and disagreeable. There is a lot of school shooting happening, but it 's not getting popular and everyone isn 't going to start shooting up their school. The article has some agreeable saying, but yet there are some that you have to think about and realized it 's all wrong. School Shootings: How We All Miss the Point... The aftermath of a school shooting is tragic, depressing, and causes hatred for the lives lost and the person who took them. Everyone, especially the media, tries to interpret why the shooter killed their victims, or why they felt the need to end others’ lives and their own. Many schools in today’s society suffer from shootings at some point while children are attending school. Shootings in schools are not a new occurrence, and America has dealt with multiple shootings in public schools in which the lives of many children and teachers have been undeservingly taken (Elliott 528). Because of school shootings, this leaves our children in danger with no way to protect themselves. Gun violence in schools is an evident problem, and there are several ways to reduce the number of incidents, such as mental health screening for owners of guns, interconnectedness of communities, and more school funding.

The United States of America, a great but very flawed nation is one of the highest-ranking countries in the world—which isn’t always a good thing. From its number one rating in areas like defense spending (almost half a trillion dollars in 2015 according to data from the National Priorities Project), to its astronomical and ever rising national debt (which increases $40,000 a second (The Telegraph))—America consistently comes out on top. Although rankings like these are upsetting to hear, the most frustrating is the fact that this country outranks every other nation in the world in guns, mass shootings, and gun violence. So far, there have been nearly 1,600 mass shootings since one of the most horrific shootings in modern history at Sandy

ENG-122 Reflective Essay My writing process has changed tremendously over the course of this class. I feel more accomplished, confident and I feel sometimes that my ideas and thoughts just come in to my mind out of nowhere and I start writing about anything now. I pay attention to my punctuation and grammar more as I have polished them more now, not only when I write but then others write as well. I am constantly looking for errors and I highly think this is helping me a lot in my career.
In the Summer Reading Essay, there are areas that were done well, as well as areas that need improvement. After receiving the prompt for this essay, I hurried to the books to find textual evidence. Looking back at my decisions now, I believe that I should have spent more time brainstorming the essay so that I would not be stuck in the middle of the essay, not knowing what to write. Because I used up so much time writing my essay, I had little time to edit and revise my essay thoroughly. I was only able to skim through it, leaving numerous amounts of errors in my essay.
I’m going to be honest, this is the fourth time I’ve written this essay. I’ll write a good two hundred words or so, thinking this is it, this is the one I’m going to turn in, and suddenly I’ll realise that I really don’t know where I’m going with any of it. You’d think writing five hundred words or less about yourself would be pretty simple, but it isn’t. My problem is that I’ve got it in my head that this is my one big chance to get into my school of choice, which means it has to be perfect.
I believe I deserve a little bit better grade because in my mind this was a pretty hard essay because you had to write about someone you don't know and how much you can write deponds a lot on how much information the person gives you. Alth i had a lot of grammar mistakes
