Texas is home to nearly 10,000 nurse practitioners. Nurse practitioners (NPs) in Texas do not have as many freedoms as NP 's in many other states. In fact, Texas falls at the lower end of the spectrum regarding the freedoms it offers nurse practitioners. House Bill 1885 would grant full practice authority in Texas to all advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), including nurse practitioners (NPs). It would authorize APRNs to evaluate and diagnose patients; order and interpret diagnostic tests; and initiate and manage treatments; prescribing of medications, these are currently job descriptions of APRNs and NPs that they are already doing, however, it would move these items under the exclusive licensure authority of the Texas Board of Nursing.
My research centers around Mexican immigrant women working as certified nursing assistants (CNAs) in Bellingham, Washington. As the first line of care in eldercare institutions, CNAs spend more time with residents than any other staff members, performing the most intimate tasks. Belied by its low-wage, low-status ranking within the industry, the work of a CNA involves a great deal of skill and interpretation of the clients’ needs. Interestingly, positive scores for eldercare facilities in Washington have been associated with the presence of more immigrant caregivers, with the indication that this may come from the “motivation and characteristics of the workers themselves” (Acker et al. 2015, 665)”

This case study highlights the conflict that can arise between nurse practitioners (NP) and physicians due to lack of proper communication, poor physician attitude, and lack of respect. Clarin (2007) labels these items as barriers that inhibit effective collaborative care and ultimately hinders the goal of medical institutions. In this case study, the way that the physician treated the new NP encourages other physicians in the practice or staff members that it is acceptable to treat another provider in this manner. This poor behavior will continue the cycle of disrespect and distrust when we should be collaborating with one another in the healthcare field. Not to mention, creates an unhealthy work environment.
My knowledge in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) continues to expand as I progress through the DNP program. The knowledge I have attained while in the study of the DNP I and DNP II is priceless. For example, recognizing stakeholders and utilizing networking has helped me to progress on my DNP project (Gokenbach, 2012). I also have a better understanding as well as the purpose of a DNP project. My mentors have been great in directing me in remaining on the right track.
Having grown up in a community underserved in mental health care, my beliefs are commensurate with the National Health Service Corps’ in that access to health care is a basic human right. As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner I will strive to increase access to mental health care for individuals in underserved communities as a nurse in a community-based practice. National Health Service Corps’ mission to increase accessibility of quality health care will benefit from my commitment to serving individuals without health insurance and those living in rural and urban areas where mental health care services are limited. Teaching is an integral part of nursing and is discussed numerous times in the American Nurses’ Association (ANA) Scope and Standards of Practice (ANA, 2010). As a nursing student, it is important to initiate teaching as a leading component in our individualized client-centered care. The purpose of this paper is to examine a teaching plan implemented with a client referred to as Ms. F. in May 2017. For a structural guidance, the paper will use the standard nursing process: assess, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation (ANA, 2010).
Outline ethical issues that impact the APN Ethical issues can impact the health care system in a variety of ways. The APN is expected to provide excellent regardless of the work environment. One issue that continues to influence the entire nursing profession is staffing inadequacies. “Without sufficient staffing it is difficult to meet ethical standards of professional practice responsibilities, including protecting the rights of individual patients and families, alleviation of suffering, and preserving their integrity”(Ulrich et al., 2010, p. 1).
Advanced Nurse Practitioner play a role as an Advocate by acting or interceding on behalf on their patients’ health care. The ANA addresses the importance of advocacy in its Code of Ethics, including Provision 3: “The nurse promotes, advocates for, and strives to protect the health, safety, and rights of the patient.” Also from it ANA define three core values that form the basis of nursing advocacy which are preserving human dignity; patient equality; and freedom from suffering. The role of APN as advocate require a nurse to act as a communicator, liaison, educator, interpreter and caregiver. Since its founding, its membership has grow from less than twenty nurses to millions and has become a leading organization in the advancement of the nursing practice and improvement of quality health care. The ANA does this by promoting high standards of nursing practice, fostering an ethical and safe work environment, and supporting the health and wellness of nurses. Nurses are critical for promoting health in the society. The profession is highly flexible, since they specialize in diverse operations in the medical field. Registered nurses, for instance, are responsible for the administration of medicine and inoculations to patients (American Nurses ' Association, 2000). Additionally, these professionals observe, record, and enlighten doctors of any changes in a patient’s health.
