The Black Power Movement And The Civil Rights Movement

In this essay I will be discussing how the Black Panthers were trying to help the African American community. During the Civil Rights Movement Martin Luther King Jr had organised many nonviolent protest to help the African American community gain equal rights and to end segregation in the South. These nonviolent protests were mainly set in the South and mainly worked for the Southern community. It wasn’t effective in the North side which had the Ghettos which consisted of the African American community. During this time the Black people were treated in a horrible manner by the Police there were lots of reports of the police attacking the African American people who were not armed or did nothing wrong.

Many african american had to fight for their right to defend their country and to receive fair and equal treatment in the military. The legacy of their courageous struggles and their service helped the united states to realize its highest ideal of freedom. the civil war,they had the worst jobs and the worst weapons. They also did not having the right to vote or to have an education, according to the article “ civil war black soldiers” the confederate declared that all african american fighting for the union should be treated as rebels and slaves and they would be put to death if they were caught by a confederate.

African Americans still had a struggle even when the war ended until they had equal rights. In the 1900 's schools businesses local streets and restrooms the blacks were classified as second class citizens. In 1909 a group of prominent black and white people created a group called the national association for the advancement colored people their was to increase racial equality. In 1955 a school opened were blacks and whites could go together; causes peaceful marches and protest.

African Americans face a struggle with racism which has been present in our country before the Civil War began in 1861. America still faces racism today however, around the 1920’s the daily life of an African American slowly began to improve. Thus, this time period was known by many, as the “Negro Fad” (O’Neill). The quality of life and freedom of African Americans that lived in the United States was constantly evolving and never completely considered ‘equal’. From being enslaved, to fighting for their freedom, African Americans were greatly changing the status quo and beginning to make their mark in the United States.

In general, the non-violent protests orchestrated by Dr. Martin Luther King and other successful black political leaders were viewed as a success as the mistreatment of African Americans had improved. However, racism is viewed as deeply rooted and it was going away overnight or years to come. The whites were still finding ways in the law to discriminate against African Americans and believe the non-violent protest didn’t benefit them so, this sector of the African Americans led to existence of black power. In 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act into law. Therefore, this new law outlawed segregation in public accommodations of every of every kind throughout the country (Robin D. G. Kelley, 2000, p. 236).

during the civil rights movement there was a lot of chaos going on. People back then were treated differently due to segregation. The african american people tried fighting for their rights to have the same equality as the white people had. any african american tried making history by either going to an all white school or getting their rights to vote.

Racism in America has been around for centuries however it was in the 1960's that the attitudes of many Black Americans started to quickly change and they realized they wanted equality. Out of this, The Civil Rights Movement emerged which was a peaceful social movement that strove for equal human rights for black Americans. The leader of the Civil Rights Movement is no one other than Martin Luther King Jr. In his book, Why We Can't Wait, King tries to convince Black Americans to realize their reality, remember their roots and important and mainly, to seek changes to social conditions and attitudes.

Imagine being discriminated against just because of the skin color you were born with. In addition to promoting more power for the people of color in society these strong people were pushing for equality among everyone. Often times today the Black Power movement is misjudged or looked down upon, but if you look at what they really stood for it was not black superiority

The movements that were upfront with stopping voting discrimination were most successful and gained support nationwide for its goals and objectives. A year later segregation was outlawed by the Omnibus Civil Rights Act. In the end the Civil Rights Movement in 1965-1969 may not have been 100 percent successful but African Americans did make progress and are a few steps closer to being economically, politically and morally equal like any white

Because of the African Americans were treated unequal, they started the Civil Rights Movement, they desired to get more civil rights through the Civil Right Movement. Many successful non-violent strategies had been used by African Americans such as bus boycott, sit-ins and marching of Birmingham. Also because of the leadership of Martin Luther King Jr, the Africa Americans gained some civil rights at the end of Civil Right Movement. The African American Civil Rights movement existed at large between the early fifties and the late sixties in a society that was constantly on the verge of social destruction. The black rights movement existed politically, socially, and economically everywhere in the United States. As time progressed the movement developed and saw many changes along with schisms separating activists and how they approached getting their rights. In the early fifties there was a large non-violent integration based movement spearheaded by figures such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks. However, as the time progressed, the movement started seeing a more aggressive leadership with figures such as Malcolm X, but eventually it turned into an extremist movement

Civil rights, political and social freedom and equality, something many African Americans had to fight for. There were boycotts, sit-ins, teach-ins, freedom riders and many other events where people took a stand and stood their ground, but the one that really caught the attention of others was the Little Rock Nine. All the different situations where people were fighting against Jim Crow Laws started with something that was most likely over equality. These students were all about fighting for an equal education, and believed they should be taught in the same room, with the same lessons, and with the same teachers as any other white student.

Racism can be followed throughout history to the colonization of America to the Age of Imperialism in Britain. To this day the way that African Americans have been depicted has determined how they are treated. To fully understand the effects of propaganda, it is necessary to be able to answer the question, To what extent has the marginalization of African Americans contributed to social and political movements in the Civil Rights Era? This is significant because the racial tension in the United States has strengthened with the birth of the Black Lives Matter movement.

The Black Panthers were a Black Power group that wanted equality for everyone. The Black Panther Party for Self Defense helped shape the Civil Rights movement immensely. Who they were, what their core beliefs were, and how they shaped the Civil Rights movement, and America today will be covered. The Black Panthers were originally started by Bobby Seale and Huey Newton.

There have been many movements in the United States in which African Americans have been the focal point for example the Selma March, the March on Washington, the civil rights movement, and even today the Black Lives Matter movement. Those movements have had a significant impact on the United States and still play a part in today’s society. Those movements still play a part in today’s society because without those movements there wouldn’t be a Black Lives Matter because African Americans wouldn’t have the courage to stand up a fight for their rights if it wasn’t for Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Rosa Parks, or the many other activists that stood up for African-American rights. Selma and the March on Washington share a big relationship to the Black Lives Matter and they are just as important to the civil rights movement.
