Bethany Hamilton is a professional surfer and sponsored by Rip Curl. She grew up in the tropical Hawaiian Islands and learned to surf at the age of five. Within the first portion of the book Bethany Hamilton the main character explains her life and how she was born in Hawaii. Bethany also talks about how she is homeschooled so she can spent the majority of her day in the water. Bethany explained her love for surfing.

The annual Phi Alpha Theta (PAT) initiation brunch is one of the most exciting events to take place every year. It took place on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Alta Vista Country Club in Placentia and it was nice to see familiar faces, while meeting the new members of the organization. Guest enjoyed some omelets, prime rib, and pancakes, while Dr. William Haddad gave a powerful talk entitled “An Ode to Secular Tyrants: Reflections on the History of the Modern Middle East.” After the keynote, address came the initiation ceremony that included the traditional reading of the “Six Ages” of History. Thirty-six new members joined the ranks of Phi Alpha Theta and became apart of something much bigger-

Bathany Hamilton is a young girl who loves to surf. Bathany has been surfing ever since she was a toddler. Bathany lives in Kauai, Hawaii. At the age of 13 Bathany was attacked by a doing something she loved. Bathany Hamilton was resilient because she went to rehab.

Bethany Hamilton had been competing in competitions since she was about eight years old and nothing was going to keep her from surfing. She had no idea that her life was about to change dramatically by a shark attack. Luckily. Her friends were able to get her back to shore

But Sarah Parker Remond got her name out there by giving public speeches, speaking on different topics such as women's rights, racism, slavery, and abolition rights. I chose Sarah because she was very true to being an abolitionist and kept her worth strong while speaking on sensitive topics because she needed a change.

She is someone who has been through a lot of trouble and persevered through it all. In Nancy Mairs’ speech, she views the word “crippled” as straightforward, and describes that others view it as an offensive and repulsive word, yet she constantly uses it to depict herself as a tough woman who has persevered through many obstacles.

Even though surfing requires a lot of balance and effort, Bethany Hamilton was able to stand up on her board with one arm after getting attacked by a shark. Bethany Hamilton was born in Lihue, Hawaii on February 8, 1990. She was a competitive surfer by age eight (Hamilton 49). The reason why Bethany is so competitive is because she has two brothers who motivated her to try harder and to be the best (Hamilton 35). Bethany always said, “You know it would take a lot to keep me from surfing” (Hamilton 49).

Thousands of women have screamed at the top of their lungs, clawed at the patriarchy, and tirelessly fought for their rights as citizens of the United States of America. From the beginning of mankind, women have been labeled as inferior to men not only physically, but mentally and intellectually as well. Only in 1920 did women gain the right to voice their opinions in government elections while wealthy white men received the expected right since the creation of the United States. A pioneer in women’s suffrage, Susan B. Anthony publicly spoke out against this hypocrisy in a time when women were only seen as child bearers and household keepers. Using the United State’s very own Constitution and Declaration as ammunition, Anthony wrote countless

Despite her loss of an arm, she still continued to pursue her dream of becoming a professional surfer (“Bethany”). Bethany Hamilton did not see her loss of an arm as a disability or a burden, instead she thought of herself as unique from everyone else. This shows that Hamilton’s dream positively affected her because she truly wanted to become a professional, so she worked her hardest to make that dream a reality. She did not let other people’s opinions to deteriorate her; instead she thought positively and kept her mind towards becoming a professional surfer. Not only did she get past her disability, but she “strives to remain a symbol of hope and inspiration by touching lives through her platform of faith and sport” (Viti).

Bethany win launched her professional career fulfilling her lifelong dream. Bethany is an elite surfer now. Bethany had been good at surfing since she was 5 years old.
