How does college affect us? How should we prepare for it? Well, college graduates are living longer and healthier lives, more likely to stay employed, more likely to enjoy their work, and earn $20,000 a year more than an average high school graduate. Additionally, if you live in Washington, a program called " College Bound Scholarship ", will help you prepare for college by, providing a representative to share out his/her experiences in college, sharing out tips, and most importantly a scholarship! Overall, in this essay I'll be attempting to explain how I will be prepare for college and how to use your representative from the program to help you prepare for college.
To start off with, if you’re a junior or senior and eligible to apply for

As long as you are eligible and meet the requirements you will receive a scholarship to help pay for your college. In order to sign up for this, you must be in middle school and turn in the paperwork. In order to be eligible you will need to fulfill the scholarship pledge which is, graduate with a 2.0 GPA or higher in high school, have no felony conviction, apply for financial aid by completing the FAFSA or WASFA, This form will help not just students but their guardians as well. If this program is to encourage students who might not consider college because of the cost to dream big, it would help parents as well. For example, a parent may worry it's their fault for holding their children back, but since college bound is here, their anxiety can be reduced. This will help students prepare for college instead of preparing for nothing. In my opinion, college bound scholarship was a genius idea. I state this because of many reasons, First of all, this reduces anxiety a parent might have. Like I said before, a parent might feel responsible that their children is not going to college and feel like it's unacceptable and work maybe 2 jobs to get the money. This is not healthy as it create stress and discomfort in the family. Secondly, the student can stop worrying about how to get extra education. To prepare for college is simple, work hard. When I say work hard, it means balancing out fun and working hard. If you're working too much, it unhealthy, But the same goes if you're having to much fun. If you can balance those two out, you are working hard and you will be successful in college and in general, life. In my opinion, if only the program " College Bound Scholarship" would spread worldwide instead of just Washington, it would boost college graduates very quickly I bet, Overall, college bound scholarship helped me think early about how I should prepare for college and how they send out college coaches ( representatives) was
Mike Patton’s article The Cost of College: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow argues that the overall expenses involved in college education have been heavily inflating over the past few years and if we don’t help slow the accelerating pace, the economy could crash or collapse. I disagree with most of the points brought up in this article. Patton mentions that for the majority of the middle class who doesn’t bother to earn a scholarship or military benefits, “a student loan may be the only option” (Patton, 2015). However, I believe that with true dedication and perseverance towards one’s dream career, getting a scholarship is easier than one would think. Even if the student were to fail receiving a scholarship, other options are possible, such
We as a society are manipulated by the idea that a college education will fix all of our problems and allow us to pursue a successful life. In the essay “College In America” by Caroline Bird mentions that a college education is not the best choice for all high school graduates because it leads to the assumption that a college education is the only possible way to establish one’s identity in society. Although college is the staple after graduating high school not all sustain the qualities it takes to succeed in the intellectual work given and some career fields do not have a connecting relationship to a college education reminding us that even though these claims are based in the 1970s it is still relevant in today’s society.
As a graduating senior preparing for college is frightening. The ideas of “how am I going to pay for college?” and “where will I live?” are continuously brought upon myself, and my family. I have worked hard my entire high school career for the opportunity of attending the college I choose, as well as hopes that my work will pay off by receiving financial assistance for my education. Financially, my family has encountered many hardships including: having a single mother, four sisters, and medical adversities.
Once I got to High School joined a program at my school called Upward Bound Which is a college readiness program at my school. I attend South St.Paul Secondary where my teachers had recommended me to sign up for Upward Bound which is run by Trio. The trio is a program that is funded by the government to help children get prepared for college and all of the information they will
College is Worth the Cost College is the next higher level of education after high school. Many students go to college to get a bachelor’s degree for his or her major, and some students go farther than that to get a masters or a doctorates’ degree. The argument between people in today’s society is whether college is worth the cost. College is worth the cost students pay because people, who attend college get better jobs, make more money, and college improves his or her worth ethics and character.
I want to participate in a college access program because I was never actually informed about colleges or the topic about if I wanted to. And secretly in the my mind, I knew my hardships and struggles I had in school was worth the time and effort I put into it because my overall goal was to go to a good college, and achieve my dream to become a doctor. Since, I am a first generation college student, I need all the information and help I can get. My goals I carry with me are the motivation I need to go to college, but the question is how will I get there? A college access program is the way to go.
Getting good amounts of money for getting good grades can be used to pay for college. Even when you don’t have a big house or your parents can’t afford a Division 1 or 2 college, so instead you go to a community college which is not bad but not the best. Overall kids should get paid in school so, they could afford a good college education when they're older. You don’t have to get paid for going to school to afford college if you are smart enough or are good at sports the colleges can give you a scholarship. The benefits of college, in the long run, can result in having a good-paying job like a Teacher, or an engineer and many more, college can help you have higher paying jobs instead of having a high school
Throughout the essay, Charles Murray stresses the idea that college is the wonderland of finding oneself and to find the career that one would want to follow for the rest of their lives. “College is seen as the open sesame to a good job and a desirable way for adolescents to transition to adulthood. Neither reason is as persuasive as it first appears.” Murray, C (2008) Practically spoken, this is not normally the case. College is a fair amount of work, much more work than one would normally acquire through any course of a high school or secondary school setting.
For many people, college is an important key for their future. Some people go to college for the job opportunities and the new windows it can open. Others go just for the education and experience. A good education is beneficial from many different viewpoints; in truth, it is a possibility that one's adult life could be much harder than people care to think. One can have better wealth, is less likely to be unemployed, and a much higher chance of being closer to your family.
College is one of the most significant times in a person’s life. Every year high school kids will visit many different colleges so that they can be confident in their college decision. Some kids will follow in their parent’s foot steps and base their decision on where their mom or dad went, though, not all kids are fortunate to have help from their parents. Many kids nowadays may be the first in their family to take on higher education. The article, “First Generation College Students: Unprepared and Behind” by Liz Riggs explains that kids who are the first in their family to take on college are at a disadvantage compared to kids with parents who attended college.
This helps them find out what they want to do with their life with ease and brevity. The way it would make the transition and overall experience fast is by allowing students to get basic classes done in high school and making it unnecessary to wait years to apply to a college. By letting students get the basic classes done it is then letting them get into more specialized classes earlier on, instead of waiting because they’re schedule is too full. Also by being free, it means students don’t have to work in a low-end job for years to slowly accumulate the funds necessary to pay for
It has taken many years for people in society to break out of the norms and expectations of how to grow up and live in the world. A huge factor in this “revolution”: attending college. Whether it is taking a gap year to discover the world and the waiting opportunities, or simply running with it all after high school to work, attending college isn’t considered a given anymore. Now not all cases are the same for every person, therefore they can only decide what is the best path for them after high school. Still, the benefits of a being a college graduate will never be diminished.
They could show their talents to the world plus they can live the life that they want. With college education being free they could make other people happy for them, and be happy for themselves. An article says that, “ People would have more freedom to contribute their talents, try new ideas, and pursue the lives they want if they didn 't have to start off in debt or stay stuck in a low-wage job. That could lead to happier people. Also, happier people could lead to a happier, more prosperous nation as a whole.
This makes the student think if college is an investment that is even worth it. Most people are spending at least $50,000 on their college education and high school students can’t even begin to
As long as the students were responsible enough in paying their way through college, might as well make it worth by acquiring some knowledge with a combination of such skills along with a paycheck. Just to grab an out-of-state college opportunities and to be able to attend college in the state, there were some states who use financial aid in order encourage the highest-performing high school graduates. Though, there were also several states who have adopted similar approaches yet do not demonstrate financial need, and that is the funding grants for students who meet high academic standards. In order to save the children’s college education, American families tried their best by getting a great option, a 529 college Savings Plan. This was named for a section of the tax code and the advantage of this plan is that the families can able to invest through the said accounts.
