Bryce Harper and Hunter Strickland’s throw-down on Memorial Day reminded us that the bad blood between two teams or players isn’t always settled by playing the game. Below are, in no particular order, the top 10 baseball brawls in recent memory.
Robin Ventura vs. Nolan Ryan, 1993
The altercation between Robin Ventura and Nolan Ryan is probably one of the most iconic brawls in baseball history. In a 1993 game between the Texas Rangers and the Chicago White Sox, Rangers pitcher Nolan Ryan plunked White Sox third baseman Robin Ventura with a high 90s fastball. After taking a couple of steps towards first, Ventura charged the mound to retaliate. As Ventura lowered his shoulder to hit Ryan, the future Hall of Fame fire-baller wrapped Ventura

Overall, the bad blood between Perez and the Padres resulted in four bench clearings, one all-out brawl, 14 ejections and several fans storming the field to join the fray.
Mo Vaughn vs. George Bell, 1993
The fight between Mo Vaughn and George Bell isn’t epic because it cleared the benches, it’s epic because of how one-sided the fight wound up being. In a 1993 game between the Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox, Red Sox pitcher Aaron Sele threw a pitch behind the head of White Sox outfielder George Bell. Naturally, Bell didn’t take to kindly to the pitch and charged the mound. After throwing a wild punch at Sele that failed to connect, Red Sox first baseman Mo Vaughn came flying in out of nowhere and absolutely leveled Bell, causing both benches to clear without much further confrontation.
Alex Rodriguez vs. Jason Varitek,

The fight resulted in multiple suspensions and Morgan got an eight game suspension for instigating the brawl.
A.J. Pierzynski vs. Michael Barrett, 2006
After a fly ball out, White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski tagged up and tried to score from third base. Pierzynski bowled over Cubs catcher Mike Barrett on his way to the plate and emphatically slapped home to score. Pierzynski’s theatrics didn’t sit well with Barrett, who upon getting up from the collision, grabbed Pierzynski and punched him in the face. The benches cleared as a result, and four players, including Barrett and Pierzynski, were ejected from the game.
Chan Ho Park vs. Tim Belcher,
Utley was ruled safe at second base, which upon further review, was immediately noted to be against MLB rules. MLB Chief Baseball Officer, Joe Torre, said that “after thoroughly reviewing that play from all conceivable angles, I have concluded that Mr. Utley’s action warrants discipline. While I sincerely believe that Mr. Utley had no intention of injuring Ruben Tejada, and was attempting to help his Club in a critical situation, I believe his slide was in violation of Official Baseball Rule 5.09 (a) (13), which is designed to protect fielders from this type

This film plays a major part in exemplifying key aspects of baseball history. The Black Sox Scandal was a devastating event in history that caused spectators and fans to question the integrity of the game; they became skeptical on coming to games because they would not know if it was a real game or fixed. The eight players involved, hence the title of the film, were Eddie Cicotte, Chick Gandil, Oscar Felsch, Joe Jackson, Fred McMullin, Swede Risberg, Buck Weaver and Claude Williams. These players were bribed to throw the 1919 World Series game of the Chicago White Sox and Cincinnati Red for $10,000 each by gamblers Joseph “Sport” Sullivan, William “Sleepy Bill” Burns, and Billy Maharg. Although this was their original plan, the players remained unpaid and decided to play and win the rest of the games.
On August 4, 1993 a pitch got away from Ryan. The pitch hit the hitter, Ryan Ventura, on his right tricep. Ventura took a few steps to first base and then charged the mound at Ryan. Ryan said after the game that he was just trying to pitch to him inside.

To start there have been many famous “moments” at Wrigley such as: Ernie Banks’ 500th home run (1970), Kerry Wood 20 strikeout game, Sammy Sosa's 60th homerun in 1998, 1999, and 2001, and Greg Maddux’s 3000th career strikeouts. Another well known famous moment that happened at WRigley was Babe Ruth’s “called shot” during the 1932 world series. Ruth pointed to centerfield suggesting where the next ball would go and Ruth hit a home run there. It is debated whether Ruth was pointing at the pitcher or gesturing to the Cubs bench but that moment has not been forgetted. Wrigley field is significant because it holds memories of this moment and it a baseball historical landmark.
Comiskey suspended all seven players, Gandil retired after the series. All the conspirators along with the gamblers were indicted by the grand jury.
