In the short story " Ambush " by Tim O'Brien, the artistic value surpasses the short story " Big Boy " by David Sedaris because of the way Tim uses dialogue, the time moving technique and the way he wrote his story as a first person different from David helped the story be more interesting. The first thing comes in readers’ mind is time moving. People will be really impressed by the way Tim used it to describe the time passes and his day dream moment. To write a biographical account that covers the entirety of a president’s life who lived through tumultuous events of World War I, World War II, the Cold War, and the Korean War is an incredible feat that Stephen E. Ambrose attempts to accomplish through the novel Eisenhower Soldier and President. Ambrose has a deep fascination with the World Wars and the New York Times even accredits him with the rapid growth of the nation’s interest in this time period (Goldstein). The author’s admiration for Eisenhower is apparent throughout the novel, but he also offers frequent critiques of the president’s choices which put his bias towards Eisenhower in check. Ambrose makes a strong argument that Eisenhower succeeds in his own objectives, despite some

The people who believe that it is a paranormal occurrence would not pay attention to the facts that point otherwise. That is what seeking to confirm is. They would rather stay biased on their own belief rather than opening their mind and staying skeptical on others. In conclusion, there are three logical fallacies that exemplify the incorrect shown from the Amityville Hauntings followers. Because of these fallacies, we know, we should remain skeptical always and we should not let ourselves become the victims of logical
Introduction: Ghost Story and Hamlet The Supernatural and especially the ghost seem to be firmly fixed in British literature. Gothic writers like Mary Shelley, Robert Lewis Stevenson, and Sheridan Le Fanu have shaped the concept of the modern horror and suspense storytelling and contributed various themes and characters for postmodern literature and popular culture to adapt and re-use. But even before the classic Gothic Fiction of the late 18th century supernatural and “gothic” elements had already taken hold in the literary tradition. After all, the word “ghost” itself originated from the Old English Language indicating centuries before the Gothic Tradition the concept of ghosts in a linguistic sense. This circumstance won’t cause any surprise,
A Not So Ghostly Ghost Story “The last man on earth sat alone in a room. There was a knock on the door…” These short two sentences by the infamous writer Fredric Brown are enough to hook a reader head to toe and suck one into the black hole that is a horror story. The very kind of story that Mark Twain’s tale, A Ghost Story, mocks. A Ghost Story is a short story about a man who buys a room that had been uninhabited for many years. According to Edward J. Parkinson, James appears to suggest if the ghosts are psychical as opposed to supernatural they would not be terrifying ‘because they do so little,’ however, it is arguably Quint and Jessel’s unnatural stillness during their appearances which creates the unsettling atmosphere. Quint is first described as ‘only standing and staring down at me,’ . If we immediately begin to deconstruct their appearances and conclude this manifestation can be nothing other than a hallucination, we ignore the lack of knowledge about Quint which the governess holds. The subsequent confirmation of this figure as a predecessor by Mrs Grose upon the governess’ description, ‘” Quint!” she cried,’ dispels the assumption the ghosts are anything other than hallucinations.
A Psychoanalysis on The Wars In human history, war has greatly affected the lives of people in an extremely detrimental way which can be understood in Timothy Findley’s novel The Wars through a psychoanalytic approach in character development and their deterioration; the readers are able to identify the loss of innocence intertwined between characters, the search for self-identity in the symbolic and metaphorical aspect, as well as the essence of life. Those that are not able to overcome these mental challenges may develop Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or Rape trauma Syndrome, and sadly, some resort to suicide as the last option to escape their insecurities. a) Normative Frames As estated before, ghosts have a diachronic status of having been, or will be, and not being as present presents. Besides these phantasmagoric entities, we can also find a synchronic status of neither being nor not being at the same time. This status corresponds to ghostly identities, entities whose lives may not be recognized as lives due to the normativity imposed by the frames of ontology. The idea of the normativity of frames is developed in Judith Butler's book Frames of War. There, she presents the idea of how the frames that permit us to recognize lives distribute the recognizability unequally.
