Roe v. Wade is the most well known case on abortion and was originally located in the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas, but later became a Supreme Court case. Roe’s real name was Norma Leah McCorvey, but she used a pseudonym used to protect her privacy. She wanted to terminate her pregnancy by abortion- which was illegal according to Texas law. A criminal abortion statute was first enacted in Texas in 1854, with the exception of abortion by medical advice for the purpose of saving the life of the mother. She was a single woman in Dallas, Texas and began fighting this action in 1970 against the district attorney of the county.

The Right to Abortion On January 22, 1973, in a 7-2 ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down it’s landmark decision in the case of Roe v. President Obama has signed that bill to avoid a government shutdown over the issue of defunding Planned Parenthood to cut spending. Planned Parenthood is the nations largest abortion provider, which is the reason why Republicans want to defund it, along with a recent video leak by anti- abortionist republicans of officials apart of Planned Parenthood discussing the illegal sale of fetal tissue. The video was said to be edited and the group denied any illegal activity. Planned Parenthood receives about twelve percent of its $528.4 million dollars from the government through grants and reimbursements from a law called Title X. Title X gives money to not only Planned Parenthood but also hospitals, schools, health departments, and other non- profits.

In the 1st Amendment, the Establishment Clause forbids the government from passing laws “which aid one religion, aid all religions, or prefer one religion over another”. Many Christian pro-lifers use their religious beliefs to dispute when life begins.

Not only do Americans overwhelmingly oppose slaughtering horses, but horses are not raised for food and over the course of their lives they receive a wide variety of drugs and other substances that make their meat tainted. Being sold for slaughter is one of the many challenges horse’s face to merely live their lives free of abuse and suffering. Hope can be found in the homes and hearts of millions of people ready and willing to protect them. Whether you ride horses, own them, or just love them, I urge you to play a part in their protection through adoption, donations, volunteering or advocacy.

Despite this information, there is a lot more to abortion than the opinion of it being “right” or “wrong”. According to “Students for life” who are pro life, about 1 million abortions are executed each year in the US. That data adds up to 22% of pregnancies ending in abortion.

During the 1960 's and 70 's with the coinciding civil rights movement and women’s rights movement, abortion became the new national issue that we still see today between two opposing ideologies, grouped into sides coined as pro-life and pro-choice. Each side believes that their views and beliefs are what we are a society should follow and belief.
