A civilisation is defined as an advanced state of human society, in which a high level of culture and government has been reached. Many have proposed that rules are a necessity in order to maintain peace and stability. Others have faith in the human ability to separate wrong from right. The question is then; can we trust our moral, or do we require rules to maintain a functioning civilisation? I will discuss this question using relevant examples from “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding.
There are several reason for why rules are necessary. By having clear limits one can ensure the keeping of peace. One avoids chaos, as all citizens has to adhere to the same set of rules. One cannot simply trust the human moral. A glance at the news proves the need for laws. If we could trust all to make ethical decisions, crime would drastically decrease and thus, there would be no need for a police force or prisons. The need for these proves that it our actions have no consequences, we would act immorally. In addition, rules ensures our individual rights, such as freedom of speech. Without them, we would have no protection from abuse. In “The Lord of the Flies” peace is kept as long as Ralph is in charge. By having a leader and rules, the boys remain civilised. They work together as they build shelter, gather good and maintain a bonfire. The moment the

They have a more positive view on humanity, and trusts that people can make smart choices for themselves. The need for rules implies that people cannot think for themselves thus, they rely on others to think for them. In addition, one of the most fundamental human rights is freedom to make own decisions. Laws limit this freedom. As seen in “The Lord of the Flies”, a group of boys separate from Ralph’s group, as they disagree with his rules. Jack and his boys demand freedom, something Ralph does not grant. They form their own civilisation with a leader, but without clear
In the story, “Harrison Bergeron” by Vonnegut and the story, “The Pedestrian” by Bradbury both of the stories warn that if the government has too much power and control over the citizens the society will fall apart and cause chaos within the community. In the text the author states, “ The minute people start cheating on laws, what do you think happens to society?” (Vonnegut 3) another piece of evidence that goes along with the one above is, “Reckon it’d fall all apart,” said Hazel.” (Vonnegut 3) Rules are set in place so that everyone stays in check and the community doesn’t just do whatever they want to do and put everyone else's lives at risk. Even though rules are a necessary part of society doesn’t mean that citizens shouldn't have at least a
As part of human nature, we’re accustomed to following a set of rules to have an orderly and peaceful lifestyle. Usually, if those rules are disobeyed, destruction and disorder are bound to come our way. This act is prevalent in two stories, Beowulf and The Lord of the Flies, that were written centuries apart, but yet the concept of how ignoring rules can lead to the downfall of societies is common in both. Usually, a well-built society derives from a strong leader who has the characteristics of guiding people to do the right actions. Such an example would be Beowulf who is viewed as a God-like hero and is highly respected.
Laws are for the good of people for not doing a crime and getting punishment for doing a crime. One of the main laws was the feudal law. It was an agreement with a lord and his vassals. A vassal had to do military and political service while a lord had to give the vassal a grant of land. The decline of feudalism happened when vassals would team up with other vassals and override the power of the king.
Certain rules that individuals who don’t believe in rules may not believe in rules on things such as speed limits and trespassing laws. The laws listed above provide safety and stability to the society, so it is very important to follow these laws. If I were a person that believed that laws didn’t apply to me and choose to break the speed limit I would be putting many people in danger, but most importantly it would be a detriment to the way society works. As mentioned before speed limits add stability and a way of functioning to the society so it isn’t complete anarchy. Not following laws or not believing these laws pertain to you messes up public order.
Imagine a world with no rules or laws? How would humanity behave if we could do whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted, because there were no consequences for our actions? In the novel Lord of the Flies, the author, William Golding illustrates if we lived our lives in this way, humanity could easily revert back to savage ways. The book tells the story of a group of British boys who are stranded on an uninhabited island, they attempt to form a stable government. It all falls to pieces when a group of boys start caring more about fun than surviving.
If one breaks the laws, there are consequences that they face. If there were no laws, then freedom would exist. The general public does not have the right to define freedom because the ruling class owns and defines what freedom is. Freedom is neither tangible nor obtainable because according to B. F. Skinner he stated that “People identify the state of absolute freedom as one in which aversive control is absent: that is, if there is no apparent oppression, then people imagine themselves free”. I agree with Skinner because the general public is nothing more than “Happy Slaves”, we are molded by hidden controls (laws) and don’t even realize it.
Many countries and areas went into utter and total chaos due to realizing that they did not have the same rights or equal rights like the next person. Before the french revolution people just did what they were supposed to for hundred of years, it was until they realized that Hey! maybe I don't want to blindly follow this guy that is wearing the crown or that Hey! he shouldn't be allowed to do that. Rule of law exists because its meant for us to have a connection (maybe not a strong one like culture or interests) but a connection never the less.
When you hear the word civility, you associate it with manners, and remember those moments when your parents nagged you about putting your napkin in your lap and saying your thank you’s. These skills are not naturally known, they have been taught over the years throughout history. Take that all away, and what would you have? The answer is in William Goulding 's Lord of the Flies, when a group of boys get stranded on an island with no rules, parents, or civilization. Over time, their previous life begins to disappear, and with that comes this barbaric side that brings chaos and destruction.
The Truth About Human Nature My perspective on the goodness of humanity was completely altered after not only reading Lord of the Flies, but also from personal experiences in my own life. Recently I was shopping at DSW with my brother, a 12-year-old who made it clear that he would rather be doing anything but shoe shopping. He was complaining and insisting that we go home, but my mom was in need of a new pair of shoes for work. I was killing time browsing for shoes when my brother kicked me in the shin and hit me for no reason.
If such laws were not established, the strong would take advantage of the weak and human behavior would be similar
Why do we have laws and rules? The reason we have laws and rules is to protect us and keep us safe from danger. Imagine a world where there are no laws and rules. Imagine living in a world where everyone had the freedom to do
The laws stand as a basic understanding of right from wrong and allowed civilizations to keep the most peace among their people as they
States have laws to maintain peace and safety among people and provide ways to resolve issues that arise among individuals. As a citizen of a state you are expected to obey all laws. An environment without laws will cause the typical exercises of life to be affected by the chaos. In Plato’s book, Crito, Socrates believes you should always obey the law. You are obligated to obey unjust laws because you tacitly agree to obey the laws, people have different opinions what is just or unjust, and there are many consequences when disobeying a law.
magine a world without laws, Imagine people being able to commit crimes without anything being done, Imagine how all this important information about laws and why we have them would be nothing in the world today. Crimes are committed on a daily basis, but the law does everything to help those people who are in danger of committing those crimes by stopping them before it’s too late. sometimes the crimes are committed before the law can get to them so enforcement takes the job of taking their freedom away for them. Law Enforcement is important because without it everyone would be afraid of life. Everyone needs it for as long as Humanity exists because as humans people create mistakes that can severely harm and hurt others.
Even under these aspects, there are more branches of why rules are important. The first reason why rules are important is that they maintain civil behaviour in the community. Everyone should have a civil behaviour; meaning to be courteous and polite to others. An example and reason why a civil behaviour is required is so everyone has democratic rights.
