Analysis of Conflict Concepts/Lenses
The first concept that I will analyze will be Distributive Justice and an example of this can be seen in the unfair treatment amongst disadvantaged groups when it comes to education and wealth. As stated in Coleman, Deutsch & Morton (2014) there are three components of Power that affects people?s orientations and actions. One of the concepts is Personal Factors and I will mainly focus on how within Personal Factors, Power Orientations relates to my example of the Mentor/mentee relationship

Darity, a professor of public policy at the Samuel Du Bois Cook Center on Social Equity at Duke University also believes that ?[p]rior family wealth is key? noting that it ?shapes both income-generating opportunities and the capacity to allow wealth to grow more wealth? (as cited in Cohen August, 16, 2016, p. 5)
Analysis of Distributive Justice
As stated in the Times article blacks and Hispanics have been and continue to be disadvantaged. This can be seen as a form of distributive Justice. Despite having an education and a lot of the same required skills as their White and Asian counterparts, they still suffer disadvantages due to job discrimination or unfair distribution of resources.
Blacks and Hispanics with similar or the same educational background as Whites and Asians may suffer in fair treatment of the equity, equality and need principles and are already at a disadvantage as they are often not seen as equals due to discrimination. (Coleman et al, 2014)
Distributive Justice, as described in Coleman et al, (2014) is concerned with the criteria that lead you to feel you receive an unfair outcome. As stated in the Article, the idea of getting an education is to obtain the American dream of owning a home and establishing

The article states that the president of the United States also used this issue to bring up more efforts to control gun violence. I agree that this is an issue as well and efforts must be put forth, but we must also pay attention to the motives behind the people who gain access to those guns. (Knickerbocker, 2015)
Racially motivated attacks have not always been carried out by guns. There have been periods of lynching?s, beatings, and water hoses, etc. The fact that the shooter saw the victims in the church as less than and expendable or undeserving to live is the issue that must not be lost and brought to the forefront as is the case in so many racially related incidents. (Coleman et al 2014) The signs were there, he was a loner and supported groups known to favor a society that believes in excluding others because of differences they cannot control. In Coleman et al (2014) symptoms such as victim blaming or self- exoneration of moral exclusion are stated to either be a result of moral exclusion or it can continue to promote
This lack of fairness was not only seen in the educational opportunities of the minority women, but a deficiency in employment for the people of color.
Since the end of the Civil War, whites have economically oppressed blacks through “Government programs that gave white families a leg us…either exclud[ing] or shortchang[ing] African Americans” (Starkman 32). While conventional wisdom suggests that peoples’ wealth should be based on their income, Starkman suggests otherwise. Incomes fluctuate, while assets, which are a more net yield of wealth from even past generations, stay relatively stable. When comparing assets instead of income as wealth, there is a jarring disparity; whites have a $236,000 advantage over blacks, even when adjusted for income levels, and still growing. In essence, assets are the key to wealth in America, as the Shapiro study at the University of Michigan found.
To understand the extent of how common mass shooting and gun violence is in our nation and why it feels like the nations is numb to gun violence, president Obama in his last national, which he was addressing the gun violence tragedy at Umpqua Community College, Roseburg, Oregon, said, “The reporting is routine. My response here at this podium ends up being routine. The conversation in the aftermath of it. We've become numb to this.” If the president expressed his feeling towards the frequency of gun violence tragedy and how predictable giving a national eulogy was, then it would be safe for me to assume that gun violence is a national issue that needs to be addressed and since nothing has changed so far, it is evident that the presidents speech is not as impactful towards law makers and the
A Long Way Gone Forest fires engulf tall rows of trees, turning green leaves and the homes of animals into ashes. Although fires leave a destructive trail of darkened groves, they create a chance for new life to develop. Nutrients find their way through the ashes into new soil, a new life begins to flourish, and old wreckages create new homes. Ishmael Beah, the author of ‘A Long Way Gone’, tells his readers his story that one man could never forget; new opportunities and chances for a better life often flourish in the ashes created from past challenges. The book ‘a long way gone’ is based on true events experienced by the author.
Reflection Precis 5, “Contemporary Racial Framing” (March 20-22, 2018) 108788 Part I: During these two lectures, Dr. Jendian talked about our hidden biases and the way we denied discrimination. According to Joe R. Feagin (123), “In more recent surveys, black and white Americans still differ dramatically in how they view discrimination.”
In the martial status and Living arrangement for adult table they all included high percentage of no partner being involved, no children, and living by themselves. This leads to conflict theory for social class. Conflict theory is stating in order for one group to succeed another has to fail. In this case both tables show some failing, which leads to others in succeeding. For example, in living arrangement with adults they are living with their parents due to obstacles this leads to another person being able to get a home or an apartment.
It is both somber and compelling to be living in a world that has made such significant strides to create fairness for everyone, but still have the term “minorities” exist. In a perfect world, everyone would be treated equally and given an equal shot at triumph. A minority group defined as “a subordinate group whose members have significantly less control or power over their own lives than the members of a dominant or majority group have over theirs.” TEXT BOOK To refer to some as subordinate and others as dominant shows the true inequality that still exists today.
Conflict is part of day to day life in every organisation due to different beliefs, values, religion, age and culture of employees. This is a challenge to managers and directors to solve conflicts, if they arise, by being innovative in creating solutions but not all conflict are bad. There are some conflicts that can help the life of the organisation as it learns and grows as it serves to modify strategies and techniques. Unresolved conflicts lead to unproductive human resources and can lead to absenteeism and decreases the levels of cooperation, which is very bad for the life of the organisation. Conflict happens when two or more contradictory perspectives haven’t been agreed on, but it’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Symbolic interaction or interactionalist theory is on a small scale perspective of interactions between individuals or objects, it suggests that our identity or self-awareness is shaped by social interactions. Symbolic interactionalism states that our behavior changes by interactions with others and objects. According to the video we watched its basis has 3 theories: one that our actions depend on meanings, two that different people assign different meaning to things and three that our meaning of something can change. A kind of self-reflection or looking-glass theory that is based on social interactions and what society thinks of us and how we view ourselves based on this. For Example Bob is a smoker but he started a new job and at his new
The ability of any human being to reflect on themselves and being adequately informed by one’s own thoughts and actions is an attribute associated with humans and highlighted in social cognitive theory. Humans are agents who act and function as self examiners of their functioning of thought processes. To make this effective it is required to devise reliable ways of differentiating between factual and accurate thinking. In self-reflective ways, humans create ideas and act on them and predict occurrences from them. They make judgments based on the accuracy of their thoughts try to change them accordingly.
The word “conflict” comes from the Latin “confligere”, the literal translation of which is “to bend together” or to “to tense”1. Conflicts are unavoidable and usually an interpersonal relations but it is necessary to know how to resolve it either in our day to day activities, business, state, country or nation state. Conflict is a contest, competition, dispute and tensions as well as manifest clashes between social forces. It’s the situation in which incompatible goals, attitudes, emotions, behaviours or resources lead to a disagreement or conflict between two or more individuals or nations.
It is said that conflict is an inevitable part of every individual’s life and at some point every individual will come in contact with some type of conflict. According to Mitchell’s model of conflict, a conflict can be defined by two aspects, these being; behavior or attitudes towards a conflict. Mitchell developed his theory from a military view but it was suggested that conflict is not only an individual’s behavior or attitude towards a conflict but it can also be linked to incompatibility or “differences in issue position” which is known as ‘Positiondifferenzen’ ( Swanström & Weissmann , 2005) Therefore if conflict involves all of the above it can be defined as “intense interpersonal or intrapersonal dissonance between
The world is filled with stressors. These stressors can create conflict. It is important to understand the stressors. The two types of stress are personal and relationship. Personal stress refers to the struggle that occurs within the individual.
Critique #1 Relational Dialectics is known for having contradicting tension that are created in a personal relationship. When addressing how this theory is used to discuss tensions that are in any kind of relationship and when a relationship is in a conflicting issue. Relational Dialectics is when the conflict and tension is created or manifest between a couple and the issues are needed to be solved. There are limitations when using this theory while looking at relationships.
CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 Introduction A literature review is an opinion from a past research from other researchers and relevant with the topics. The researcher discuss and bring up to the past research journal and get a gist from past literature. Few important concepts were determined chosen to reflect the importance of phrase or words utilized in the present research. 2.2
