Alex was fed up with her lifestyle of fighting over recourse and living in distress, thus, she came up with a plan to find one the government 's safe houses and live there, she wishes to do so with the help of Sloan. John and Alex may seem completely on opposite planes, but in fact, they have a few things in common. Both John and Alex were very determined in that Alex was passionate about getting to the safe house “"The government has safe houses all over the country, all we have to do is find a way to get in and we will have all the fresh food and air we 've been dreaming of...It 's too early in the morning for one of your silly ideas. I 'm going back to sleep... I 'm leaving with or without you...", and John was driven to build a civilization when he said “We must build again.” Another way Alex and John are similar is that they are both stubborn. When Sloan told Alex that the safe house had guards that would kill her if she tries to enter, she still insisted on going and asking to pass through the doors. “We can 't just get in, they are armed, so we need to take them....No! Absolutely not. No one is dying...All we need to do is go down there, hack into the security system and once were in, we can just ask them to live with them ” John also insisted in following his spirit and enter the forbidden land despite the fact his father told him not to. “It is forbidden to travel east” said his father, yet he had and urge and did it.” Then three dear passed in the valley going
In 1973, Clifford Geertz- an American anthropologist- authored The Interpretation of Cultures, in which he defines culture as a context that behaviors and processes can be described from. His work, particularly this one, has come to be fundamental in the anthropological field, especially for symbolic anthropology-study of the role of symbols in a society- and an understanding of “thick description”-human behavior described such that it has meaning to an outsider of the community it originated. Alice Goffman is an American sociologist and ethnographer widely-known for her work, On the Run: Fugitive Life in an American City (2015). In this work, she relays how for her undergraduate and doctoral research project, she immersed herself in a predominately African-American community of Philadelphia as a white, privileged woman. Goffman goes on the explain how the frequent policing and incarceration of young, black men from this neighborhood affects the entire community and even affected Goffman herself.

Alexie does not break down literal, but figuratively and Superman breaks down a door literally in a comic excerpt. “In one panel,Superman breaks through a door”(Alexie 4). Alexie breaks through the figurative doors that society had placed on him. Breaking down the doors took determination which Alexie and Superman both possessed. ”I refused to fail.
However, both Jack and Priscilla are quite similar due to their protective attitudes towards their friends. For example, in the story “Wonder”, Jack ended up in a showdown with Julian because he was insulting Auggie; this showdown resulted in Jack getting suspended from the school for two whole days. Also, on a camping trip, Auggie, Jack, and a few others, were attacked by some older seventh graders, and Jack protected Auggie; and they all ended up bruised and scraped. To recap, both stories are similar, in a sense, because they both deal with standing up to bullying. Priscilla stood up for Melvin and Jack stood up for Auggie; but both didn’t stand up correctly, they resorted to physical violence to protect the people they care
Finally there is one more similarity, the similarity is that they are both confident in something. It says in the bible that David was confident that god would save him from death, and Casey was confident
This truely is a great escape for Alex and the tough task will eventually lead to his demise. The task indeed proved to be too much for this unprepared boy ready for his freedom from his life and the feeling of being held down. Figurative language in this novel can be small, but with it comes a far deeper meaning that adds to the powerful
The passage, “Always Running” by Luis J. Rodriguez evokes the tone of indifference. Rodriguez demonstrates these tones through imagery. For example, at the beginning of the passage the narrator, Luis gives us background information about his living situation to set up imagery for the rest of the passage. Then, Luis sets the tone of indifference with this sentence “So without ceremony, we started over the tracks, climbing over discarded market carts and tore-up sofas.” This quote uses the literary device of imagery because the narrator is painting a picture of their environment.

Box Theory: the theory of roles Who are we to decide who we are in society, more often than not society chooses who we are and others accept it as truth. Some would say that everybody is like a box and we have a certain place we fit into in the world, but then one question remains. Can we escape from the place society gives us or are we stuck in your place forever? In the short story “Breaking and Entering”, Sherman Alexie creates a sense of tension through his use of stereotypes, to suggest that society has a limited set of expectations and goals for individuals depending on their race.
By contrasting Ralph’s life before to the filthy conditions,William Golding explores the darkness that is inside of everyone in The Lord of the Flies, even Ralph. In chapter 7, Ralph thinks back to a time where cleanliness was a standard. Now he sees” hair, much too long, tangled here and there, knotted around a dead leaf or twig…. clothes, worn away…, scurfy with brine-” as his new normal.
