How Great Was Alexander the Great? Alexander the Great was the son of Phillip II who was assassinated after conquering the Greeks. Alexander became king at the age of 20 and right away began to expand. He began by crushing a Greek revolt in Thebes and gained the respect from the rest of the Greeks not to rebel.

In Parallel Lives by Plutarch, he portrays Alexander the Great as an outstanding moral individual and an excellent leader of his people. Although Plutarch illustrates Alexander as a wise, compassionate, and ambitious individual, his defense of Alexander against the people who think of Alexander as a bad leader is weak and inefficient. Plutarch’s defense of Alexander’s fallible qualities, such as his drinking problems and his apathy to his people at the later part of his life is questionable and easily disproved, weakening his argument that Alexander is a truly admirable person. Alexander's famous father, Philip, hired Aristotle to educate his son when they boy was a mere 13 years old. It can be assumed that much of Alexander's success later in life could be attributed to what he gleaned from the wise philosopher. Alexander The Great’s title of “The Great” was not an exaggeration. To earn the title of “The Great”, you must've done some extremely good things as your reign as a king, queen, or emperor. Alexander The Great did many great and powerful things during his lifetime. He established an extremely powerful military, and he knew how to strategically conquer land, and he was interested in turning this conquered land into powerful areas.

He wrote of how their surroundings and the people around them influenced them, and how that affected their success in their plans to reach some form of eternal glory in their desire to become greater than those who came before them. They were both extremely ambitious, quick to fight, and careless of danger on the path to glory.

Alexander is well known for his braveness and fighting strategies.

They ended up hiring a philosopher named Aristotle to teach him what he would need to know. At the age of 20, Alexander inherited his father's kingdom and his kingship began. Describe the steps that Alexander the Great and his mother took to ensure his rise to power. Alexander and his mother took many steps to ensure his power as king of Macedonia. One of the first steps he took was to have a great education. Secondly, Alexander may have gotten his father killed by his bodyguard.

Glorious men have graced the earth and have left significant impressions on the following generations. Alexander the Great suits that profile like none other. As arguably one of the most influential military leaders in history, Alexander conquered the majority of the known world, including large-scale empires such as the Persian. Succeeding his father, Philip II, to the throne at the age of 20, Alexander commanded an already skilled military, which he schooled further in the beginning of his reign. Even militarily significant empires had no chance against Alexander 's military brilliance and so he constructed one of the largest empires in history.

Alexander the Great was the king and renown general of Macedonia. He led the Greek army against Persia and used many bold tactics in battle. Alexander the Great significantly expanded the Greek legacy by conquering territories. When he conquered a territory, he would not force the locals to assimilate into the Greek culture. This is to ensure they would not rebel against his leadership.

As children, Alexander and his sister’s father was not always around. King Phillip 2 was out handling military campaigns and having extra marital affairs (Alexander the Great Biography). Not having a fatherly figure, and a male role model to look up to led to Alexander resenting his father (Alexander the Great Biography). Not just because he cheated, but because he wasn’t there for his family psychologically, emotionally, and physically. Despite having an absentee father in his life, young Prince Alexander went out and followed in the role of his footsteps, and became one of the most successful leaders of the world, a military genius, and played a role in the shaping of world history.

It was said that a specific wild horse could not be tamed. Alexander calmed the horse, mounted it and rode it successfully on the first try. This strength of mind and body would prove very helpful in future battles. Alexander’s father, King Phillip, was involved in battles that would extend and define the Macedonian borders. Alexander joined his father and perfected his skills, becoming one of the most brilliant military minds in human history.

Growing up, Alexander had a great father and ruler figure from which to learn from. Alexander was also his father’s right hand man in battle. He spent his whole life in battle which impacted the warrior he became. Alexander’s father was assassinated in 336 BC. After his father’s death, Alexander came to power.
