Alphonse de Lamartine, French writer and politician, once said, “Music is the literature of the heart; it commences where speech ends” (“Quotes About Power Of Music”). What is one of your favorite songs? Does this song have any special meaning for you? Music can be motivational, relaxing, exciting, or even frightening. Sometimes choosing a specific song as your favorite can be challenging, but there is usually one that you really like because the lyrics are relatable to you, maybe it describes your mood, or it may just be really catchy. Music also evolves and changes as time elapses; consequently, different generations identify with songs from various genres that are prominent during their lifetime.
One of my favorite songs is “La Gozadera” by Gente de Zona and Marc Anthony; this rhythmic song is sung in Spanish. I. Love. This. Song. The title of this song means enjoyment or party; the song talks about a party where many people from different Spanish-speaking countries come

I interviewed one of my high school science teachers about her favorite song. Dr. Barr told me that her favorite song is from the bluegrass genre called “Wagon Wheel” (I had never heard this song before). She said that this song is her favorite because it is really catchy, but it does not have any special meaning for her. I asked her if she was able to remember this song’s lyrics and she could recall them partially. “Wagon Wheel” was released in the year of 2004 by a group called Old Crow Medicine Show and the instruments used during the song are banjos and guitars. She was not able to remember the names of the group members, but they are: Ketcham Secor, Critter Fuqua, Kevin Hayes, Morgan Jahning, Chance McCoy, Cory Younts, Gill Landry, and Willie Watson (Monger). Although I had not heard this song, I would not consider it one of my favorites because I am not familiar with its genre. Old Crow Medicine Show was formed on 1998 in Harrisonburg, Virginia (Monger); the members are still

A visible aspect of the Delta Blues in Rock n Roll is the lyrics and the extent at which artists use them to express deep emotion. The rolling Stones, sang “Paint it black” with the aim of allowing the audience to look into the life of a troubled fellow who wishes his life was all painted black just like his moods. The Alabama shakes, a modern rock band showcase the same emotion when they sing “Bless my heart, bless my soul. I didn’t think I’d make it to 22 years old.” in “Hold on” Similar sadness can be seen in Robert Johnson’s “Come on to my kitchen” who continuously asks his lover to come back to him.

Music As a Healing Tool in A Long Way Gone Throughout the novel A Long Way Gone, music is used as a motif. Music is used to distract or calm the soldiers in rehabilitation, as it has the ability to trigger emotional responses. Also, music is used to remind the soldiers of their innocence and life before the war. And lastly music is used to create common ground amongst strangers.
Hillbilly music was the main genre of music for rural white American’s during the 1920’s. During our class discussion of hillbilly music, I immediately related the genre as the birth of country music today. Hillbilly music was an artistic expression by the people of the rural south. This concept is very similar to the country music that is produced today by musicians from the south who write their music based on what it is like to live in the country. During the time period of the 1920’s, Hillbilly music was only produced and sang by white Americans.
I have listen to countless different genres of music throughout my life. What kind of music I listen to can change dramatically, for example, I can be listening to country for a month then start listening to heavy metal rock the next. Most of the time my mood controls the type of music I listen to or what I am doing. If I am playing sports I like to listen to music that pumps me up, but when I am driving in my car it could vary depending on how my day has went. The two genre that I have always listen to are pop and rock; to me these two genres can get me into my feels.
Blues and bluegrass are some of the most common of these subgenres (Peterson, 1997). Country Blues usually have a mood of mourning the harsh times in life. Bluegrass is a mixture of country music from Kentucky and Tennessee, and has jazz influences from Southern areas like New Orleans, Louisiana. When you mix the two together, you have this upbeat tune with improvisation that usually contains banjos, or mandolins and drums. Bill Monroe introduced the subgenre of Bluegrass Country in the late forties early fifties in America.
Music can bring the brightest of joys that keeps us moving through our dull and boring lives. An example of this joy is Ishmael Beah’s life as a boy soldier in his book A Long Way Gone. As he tells you his story, he tells of his dance group with his friends, the times he heard music in the middle of war, and how music saved him from the madness that brewed within him. Music has the unique ability to create peace in a person’s life despite the difficulties surrounding them, and to bring a constant reminder of who they are as a person.
Music carries each and every one of us to a new awareness. It can reach to the innermost part of an individual. Music can envelope our emotions from tears all the way to our joy. It captivates and motivates. As I attended a concert on Saturday, November 7, 2015, Lynyrd Skynyrd performed with power and feeling to their audience.
Growing up I was consumed by an interesting assortment of music. Musical influences were thrown at me from all directions. Whether it was the rock and roll and punk rock music my dad listened to, or the country and pop music my mom listened to, my ears were always full of different arrays of music. Having my grandma blasting gospel music and my older sister jamming Disney, music became a very influential part of my childhood.
“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything” (Plato). If my childhood was filled with anything: it was imagination. From my earliest memories of my cousin, and I putting on a sold out concert on my papaw’s front porch; to putting my baby dolls to sleep with lullabies. Music has always been a big part of my life: it was the one thing I could always count on, no matter where I went; and that still stands true today.
Music has always been a part of my life. In definition, it is “vocal or instrumental sounds combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion.” Ever since I was a young child, I have loved music. The strong, steady beats, the entrancing melodies, and the lyrics that vary between heartwarming and heart-wrenching have always had an unexplainable effect on my life. Music seems to have the ability to change certain aspects of my world.
Alright, now that I have revealed the minor part of the speech so without wasting any times, let’s get to know why music can make you feels happy.
Everybody has different musical taste and reasons of why they like it and even though, all songs are very different from each other, what they all have in common is that they make people feel something. The reason for this is the significance we give to the lyrics or the memories they hold for us. Occasionally, songs tend to have a much deeper meaning than it might seem and this song is not the exception. The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra is my favorite song because of its theme, the lyrics, and what it means to me.
