When it comes to certain topics, multiple interpretations can be revealed, as an argument progresses. Sometimes it may be hard to tell which side is in the right. Subsequently, opinions continuously fly back and forth between individuals who can’t seem to stop disagreeing with each other. Moreover, internal conflicts occasionally arise as well, within each individual, due to new information that develops from their personal trials. Finding a piece of literature where the reader can relate to is a great fortune.

Your father has just passed away and your best friend is off to college. To make matters worse your mother remarries extremely fast to your uncle. In the midst of all this, you find yourself lost and and confused. Just like Hamlet was in his soliloquy to be or not to be. Hamlet’s father's ghost appears and ask to avenge his death.

Chuck Palahniuk once said, “We’ve spent so much time judging what other people created, that we’ve created very, very little of our own.” Bruton, the protagonist in the short story “Welding with Children” is a very subjective character that judges all around him, yet fails to realize that he has a relatively colossal problem in his life. There is discord within his family and specifically with his grandchildren and Bruton becomes conscious that the past has caught up with him. Tim Gautreaux’s characterization of Bruton portrays a comical, yet compassionate image of how judgement and lack thereof can cause a character’s perspective to change and establish a theme. Gautreaux uses the protagonist’s judgement of his own family and others to give a vision into his present and past life, but when he is judged, he is revolutionized and makes an effort to redeem and restore his character.

With the phrase, “undiscovered country, from whose bourn No traveller returns,” (24-25), Hamlet does not express a fear of the unknown, he appears unhealthily interested in discovering that unknown. Using the word “coward” close to the end, Hamlet recovers to a more stable plane, but is frustrated with himself for not fearing death and perhaps for being afraid to act against his uncle. 1) In Hamlet, pouring poison in a person’s ear had both a literal and symbolic significance. The literal meaning is that they are telling lies to people in order to deceive them. They are pouring poison or “poisonous” words into that person’s ear. The symbolic meaning of pouring poison in a person’s ear can be associated with the symbolic meaning of the snake in the story of Adam and Eve where the snake lures Eve in through lies. The characters in Hamlet were misled in the same way because they had poison poured into their ears.
