YSCP Academic Honesty Policy
Purpose/Philosophy
Academic honesty and personal integrity are fundamental components of a student’s education and character development. Young Scholars Central PA Charter School is committed to advancing the pursuit of intellectual excellence and to sustaining the highest standards and expectations for academic integrity among all students and will ensure that all YSCP students are aware of what this entails.
While It is expected that all students enrolled in the school will submit work of their own that is appropriately referenced, it is necessary to give guidelines as to what this means and what the consequences will be.
At YSCP It is considered that promoting academic honesty is also the responsibility of

Malpractice: Malpractice is defined as behavior that results in, or may result in, a student gaining an unfair advantage in one or more assessment components.
Plagiarism is any use of another individual’s ideas, words, or work without giving him/her appropriate credit.
Collusion is helping another student to be academically dishonest, possibly by allowing them to copy their work.
Cheating is using dishonest means in an attempt to obtain credit for academic work. The following offenses, including, but not limited to those below, are considered examples of cheating:
Using/providing notes, documents, answers, aids, or helping another student on any assessment (i.e. test, quiz, exam, etc.) or assignment unless expressly permitted by the teacher. This includes persons outside of the school building.
Utilizing communication/electronic devices to send or obtain unauthorized information
Looking at another student’s paper, talking during an assessment, or violating any other expressed directions given by the

There are times when a situation is hectic and negligence can occur at that point of time. In class, lab results on printed-paper intended for the patient was given to another participant in class. They opened it up and saw all the information not realizing it was not theirs. They asked me about the results and I noticed it was not theirs.

Frances Lozada-Tirado a. Shall make reasonable effort to protect the student from conditions harmful to learning and/or to the student’s mental and/or physical health and/or safety. b. This item is important to me because I feel that children in this age and time are experiencing harmful condition that enable them to learn. I feel that we as teachers and family workers need to strive for our students to feel safe and secure in order for them to reach their full potential. As a family engagement specialist, it is my responsibility for my families and students to feel safe in my centers.
Professional environments such as jobs, school, or other organizations all share a common characteristic, each of which having their own sets of rules and regulations; among these could include something called an honor code, which is meant to be a promise to abide by certain rules, typically cheating in an academic setting. A lot of people want to believe that the honor code is taken seriously by at least most people, but the fact of the matter is that little to nothing is enforcing these “promises of honesty”. While many colleges implement honor codes as a means of ensuring academic integrity, it has proven to be ineffective and quite contradictory for a variety of reasons. A leading argument when addressing the failures of honor codes
The honor code is often viewed with disdain by students who see its purpose solely as another set of rules to dutifully abide by. Administrators see it as a way to prevent cheating as seen through Source F where it states, “a number of colleges have found effective ways to reduce cheating and plagiarism… many of these colleges employ academic honor codes to accomplish these objectives.” This philosophy itself demonstrates a major flaw in the major purpose behind the honor code. The purpose of implementing an honor code should not be to eliminate cheating through making examples out of, mainly through expulsion and suspension, those who act with academic dishonesty. The purpose of the honor code should be above all, to foster a community where values such as integrity, honesty and respect are held in the highest regard.
Chapter three does a good job pointing out that compulsory attendance laws served as an impetus for challenging schools over both their segregationist and exclusionary policies toward students of differing race and ability (Yell, 2016, p. 36). At the time our government was sending a very ambiguous message to students and their families. On one hand, the law of the land dictated that students must attend school, conversely schools continued to exclude students with disabilities. This inherent contradiction let to parent advocacy groups challenging schools for the fair and equal treatment of their children.
Student’s value their social lives and professors value their work. This is not to be said that students do not care about their education and classes, students do try to get good grades, but will do the minimum to attain it. For this exact reason cheating to get ahead is extremely
I believe Walden University created an honest environment by teaching all students about plagiarism, how to avoid it, as well as, the consequence. I always tell my kids; integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is looking. Walden University (2012) has developed modules which are focused on us learning how to have academic integrity in our writing. Being enrolled in an online school requires all students to have integrity on exams, discussions and papers. Honest students are most successful because they completed the work and put all their efforts into
She did not misrepresent her attendance. She did not forge her, or another’s, signature on the sign-in sheet. She did not knowingly furnish false information to the institution. Furthermore, Olivia is not guilty of facilitating academic dishonesty. Facilitating academic dishonesty requires one to intentionally or knowingly help of attempt to help another to violate a provision in the code.
Summary of “Academic Integrity” by Arden Miller and Adena D. Young-Jones Which one do you believe cheats more in schools, an online course or a face to face course? Arden Miller and Adena Young-Jones did an article over which one tended to be worse when they found results that were kind of shocking. Of course you expect an online course to cheat more but that was not the case. The results really varied on who the person was, sexuality, age, and other personalities of a person. Arden and Adena, both took surveys of “639 students in both types of classes.
Introduction Academic Integrity is an essential component of third level education because it is the fundamental building block in which we derive our professional ethics and integrity from. It sets a pattern for life long integrity in all areas of life. Our job as students is to construct knowledge honestly and fairly. A culture of honesty earns a great deal of respect. Integrity is fundamental to everything we do in college, I don’t think we can have genuine learning without integrity.
It is unethical to cheat but what situations warrant me to cheat on the exam? In the course of the semester, I have had many problems. I have been affected by family issues, at times financial constraints and many other factors that have had a significant impact on my concentration on my studies but the main one was based on family matters. At times, one gets engaged into sporting activities which require almost the same amount of time and dedication. Here comes a situation where I have to practice day and evening so that I am on the school team.
Cheating is not something to be proud of, here are 10 reasons why cheating is wrong. Cheating in American high schools is widespread. A recent ABCNews poll of 12- to 17-year-olds provided these statistics: •70% of teens say at least some kids in their school cheat on tests. •60% have friends who have cheated.
I remember some classmates, cheating back in high school. Throughout my entire educational career, I have experienced meeting a lot of cheaters. Plagiarism is considered a form of cheating. The punishment has changed from a zero grade to expulsion. A lot of students who cheat, are only fooling themselves.
Woith, Jenkins & Kerber (2012, states that, “The Center for Academic Integrity (CAI) defines academic integrity as ‘a commitment, even in the face of adversity, to five fundamental values: honesty, trust, fairness, respect, and responsibility (Center for Academic Integrity, n.d.)’ (p. 253). Whether the act of plagiarism is knowingly or inadvertently done, it is still a moral dilemma. Honz, Kiewra & Yang (2010) posit that, “most studies report that about 75 percent of students cheat” (p. 10). As a result, this action plan is tailored towards showcasing the various methodologies and resources that student nurses can utilize in order to combat the act of plagiarism before, during and after an assignment.
