Wounded Knee Massacre

I chose this website because it looked like it had a lot of information about my topic and there were pictures on the side to help me. It also was last reviewed not too long ago so that shows that the information should be reliable and trustworthy. This site is related to what were are talking because the Ghost Dance movement basically led to the Wounded Knee Massacre.

The struggles on the battlefield such as extreme weather, loss of supply of wood and building the railroads caused major hardships for the 209th infantry. My group for the 209tH Amendment had Chapter 3, which was “A Winter in the Army of the Potomac.” History on the 209th regiment is they were made up of volunteers that were willing to fight for them in war. On November 24th which is where it takes place in Chapter 3 is the regiment was transferred with other Pennsylvania regiments from the Army of the James to the army of the Potomac.

John Brown was an extreme abolitionist who wanted to end slavery. He was involved in the Pottawatomie massacre and helped lead the raid on harpers ferry. John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry was hoped to lead to a massive wave of abolishing slavery. Brown and his man attacked harpers ferry because he hoped to arm the slaves and lead a revolt against the south, because the ship was filled with US arsenal. John Brown thought that by leading a revolt against a US arsenal filled ferry and arming slaves, that he would cause a wave of revolts against pro slavery supporters that would eventually lead to the demise of slavery.

Richard, I did some research on the Sand Creek Massacre and found an article that you might be interested in reading. The article is titled “Sand Creek Massacre: Colorado 's land grab from Native tribes”, written by Gregory Hobbs. When the school officially opened in the fall of 1861, teacher George A. Davy had 70 pupils in attendance. For wages, Davy received from families various kinds of produce such as cloth, molasses, and meat. Later in 1863-64, William Woodward taught school for $10.00 a month in which he also collected payment from each pupil and family. Then each Saturday the straw was removed from the floor where fresh straw was placed for Sunday Services.

David Laskin’s The Children’s Blizzard explains the devastating force of an intense blizzard, which caught several people unprepared, and it tells the tragic stories of these people. On January 12, 1888 a massive blizzard struck the center of North America, killing between 250 to 500 people and affecting thousands. There were many factors that made this blizzard exceptionally deadly. Many farmers and children who were outside were unprepared to deal with any cold conditions, “a day when children had raced to school with no coats or gloves and farmers were far from home doing chores they had put off during the long siege of cold” (Laskin 2).

The Ups and Downs of the Cherokee Tribe Did you know that the Cherokee Nation is one of only three federally recognized tribes that has the sovereign right to control their nation? That means that they have the right to control what goes on within their nation, despite the states government. Although the tribe may be doing well today, that hasn’t always been the case. The Cherokee Tribe had to overcome many obstacles and heartaches. Shortly after the first Cherokee entered the state in the vicinity of Travelers Rest in 1450, the Cherokees were put through many challenging times.

The Boston massacre Although many historian believe the the Boston Massacre was a murder it is clear that it is an act of self-defense. First, the situation was self-defense because Preston was trying to get the sentry to safety when they got surrounded by armed and drunken citizens. The soldiers were defending themselves because they were unable to escape with their backs against the custom house and faced an angry mob. Secondly, the solders’ fire was eight to six seconds between them. this shows that the solders fired on there own accord because usually they all fire at the same time when following orders.

The Boston Massacre is an event most Americans and British students learn about over the course of their education. In America, we learn that British soldiers fired upon innocent civilians, although this may not have been the case. British historians have referred to the Boston Massacre as the "Incident on King Street". After looking over the "Captain Thomas Preston 's Account of the Boston Massacre", as well as "Boston Massacre Trial Depositions" I believe that American historians should refer to the "Boston Massacre" as the "Incident on King Street". The definition of a massacre refers to an unnecessary and random killing of a large number of individuals.
