When comparing Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson’s stance on foreign and domestic policies, there are similarities and differences. One iconic phrase we associate with Roosevelt, “speak softly and carry a big stick,” justly depicts his stance on foreign policy. Roosevelt sought after prestige for America, desiring to stand out among the nations in power and strength. At times, Roosevelt’s foreign pursuit was aggressive and resulted in conflict such as the Spanish-American War, and resistance to Roosevelt’s Corollary. But it did lead to advances of the construction of the Panama Canal, and the absorption of power over the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Guam, Cuba and Hawaii.

If the president or leader of your country doesn’t support something, it is generally not going to be supported by the citizens and the government. In “Wilson’s War Message to Congress” written by Woodrow Wilson, it occurs in the time period before Congress enters the United States into World War I, 1917. Considering that in this document it explains how Woodrow Wilson says, “It is a fearful thing to lead this great peaceful people into war, into the most terrible and disastrous of all wars… we shall fight… for democracy… for a universal dominion of right… shall bring peace and safety to all nations and make the world itself at last free”(Wilson, “Wilson’s War Message to Congress”). All through Wilson’s speech, he explains how the Imperial Government went against their word/promise to not harm, sink or destroy American ships and warn other vessels if submarines were sought to be destroyed.

As William McKinley did when he advocated keeping the Philippines, Woodrow Wilson took advantage of this same feeling of heavenly mission to enroll bolster for his campaign to redo the world into a liberal law based world request. The Progressive Movement Progressive movement was essentially the middle class movement which started from the late 19th century to the first decades of the 20th century. The main reason for this movement was to correct injustices in American life and eliminate government based problems such as industrialization, immigration, urbanization, and corruption across the United States. The movement had involved many national, state, and local levels. One of the Progressive accomplishments for state level was the pass of child labors.
