She decides to include a description of women’s work which is important because women’s work is frequently left out of historical accounts instead Fenn chooses to highlight how important their role was by explaining in great detail the type of work women did. Since Fenn decided to reference numerous short stories within each chapter she needed to show how she was going to how the different stories were relevant to her story and she achieved this through the use of effective titles. Fenn writes the story using both the past and the present so she can insert her own journey into the story the going back and forth helps keep the content fresh and exciting. While many times history books can become dull or overloaded with content Fenn’s personal experiences are well timed and offer lighter material. Finally even though Fenn focuses on the Mandan she is successfully able to incorporate key transformations that were occurring elsewhere in the United States and Europe.

In conclusion, the author, Kathleen Ernst, talks about how women’s lives changed from before the civil war, and after the civil war. In the beginning of the passage, before the civil war, the author states that women were only good for tending the wounded and taking care of the babies and children. Women’s Rights Movement The Women’s Rights Movement in the 19th century was an effort by women protesting to gain equality with men. Women at the time were denied many rights. The rights movement first started in 1848 when a group of women met to discuss protesting, the first gathering of its time. During the movement women gained many rights that they were fighting for but It wasn’t until 1920 that all states ratified the right for women to vote, therefore wrapping up the 19th century Women’s Rights Movement. Now, this argument all ties back to the question in the beginning of this essay, “Why does our world truly need any equality?” People have to realize that the fight for gender equality is the biggest revolution that has been occurring for so many generations, as people cannot even trace back to the beginning of this fight. However, the reason behind this ridiculous length of the revolution is people’s misuse of memories and history. Instead of referring back to memories for happiness or satisfaction, people should move forward and improve their present lives in order to be satisfied.

The ability to be assertive or decisive is in fact a defining factor the identity of a woman. As a woman goes through life and its experiences, she draws from her surrounding and conclusions which will affect the choices she makes. Hardly appealing to society back then, this act of being assertive arouses an actual response at the same time that it invites attention on the rights of women as well as the status of women in the social hierarchy. This eventually draws a fine line between the male and female subject. The ability of women to make decisions eventually bridges the gap between them and the patriarchs and this, provides a sense of sights and hearing for both parties to achieve an agreement to what is right.
