The life of the woman who accomplished what seemed to be impossible back during her lifetime, Winifred Merrill, begins in the year of 1862 on September 24 in the lovely city of Ripon, Wisconsin. Who her parents were and if she had any other family members or siblings is unknown. Throughout her youth, Merrill had the utmost pleasure of being educated privately which took her into her first years of college, the first college she attended was all the way in Massachusetts which was Wellesley College. After a couple years until 1883, she received her bachelor 's degree and bounced from Wellesley to Harvard University for about a year then bounced again to Columbia University where she remained and worked to get her PHD. Westerbork camp was established in October 1939. Westerbork transit camp was a World War II Nazi refugees. The camp continued to function after the Germans invasion of the Netherlands in May 1940.In 1941 Westerbork had a population of one thousand Jewish refugees mostly from Germany. Westerbork served as a transit camp from 1942 to 1944, the Jews where sent their before they where deported to exterminate camps. Westerbork was enlarged.
George Washington Carver was born in Diamond Grove, Missouri in January of 1864. His parents were Mary and Giles Carver, and their master was Moses Carver (the slave took up their owner’s last name.) Giles, George’s father left his mother before he was born, only to leave Mary, his mother, to raise George on her own. However, later on, Mary and George were kidnapped by northern raiders to be sold in Arkansas. George was returned frail, feeble and scrawny infant a year later in 1865 with no sign of his mother.
Annis Stockton is from Darby Pennsylvania , she was born on July 1, 1776 , to Catherine Williams and Elias Boudinot. She is the oldest daughter and the second of 10 children. Her family later moved to princeton and Annis was opened to the intellectual area, and her parents gave her a very good education. The word “Croatoan” remains a mystery amongst scientists and archeologists today. The lost colony of Roanoke has developed many ideas and questions of the settlers’ location. Theories have developed over time but little facts are known about the disappearance of Roanoke’s settlers.

Meet Savannah Wooten, a 2012-2013 YES Abroad Alumna who spent her senior year of high school in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Savannah was one of the first five students to travel to Bosnia and Herzegovina with YES Abroad, through which she was able to live with a host family and attend Druga gimnazija high school. During her 10 months in Sarajevo, Savannah learned more about the breakup of the Former Yugoslavia, which inspired her to explore careers in diplomacy, advocacy and law! YES Abroad strives to help students like Savannah discover their passion. Students travel to new countries for a year-long exchange where they serve as “youth ambassadors to their countries” to build stronger relationships with countries worldwide.
Phillis Wheatley and Robert Smalls may not be a notable name in today’s history, but their stories are remarkable none the less. While Robert Smalls became famous for his bravery and actions, Phillis Wheatley became famous through her written words. Against all odds, these two African-American’s went and did what was called the impossible for people of their race in their times of history. Phillis Wheatley was brought to Boston, Massachusetts on the ship, The Phillis, in 1761 when she was just seven or eight years old. Phillis was small, frail, nearly naked, and could not speak a word of English when she arrived in America.
Despite having lived a short life, Robert Peace was very well known, even as a child. Robert Peace was a man who was very much loved by the people in his community. He was always known as the “nerd” and the smart kid of the class since he was just three years old. “It’s because he’s so smart and knows everything.” (Hobbs 17)

Amidst entering the music world at the age of five, Clara's' love for music enabled her to stay in the field of music for 61 years. Producing a total of twenty nine songs, three part songs, and twenty four compositions for piano; subsequently, enhancing her love for concert performance. Clara performed the works of Mozart, Beethoven, Bac, J.Brahms, and Robert Schumann, dedicating herself more to the interpretation of her peers music rather than her own. Surviving the deaths of her beloved husband and four children, while never loosing sight of who she was, Clara deserves to be recognized for being the powerful woman and musician that she was.

Jane Long had a rough start of life but a great ending that changed the history of Texas for good. Jane Long was born on July 23, 1798 as the tenth child of her big family. Jane’s father, Capt. William Mackall, fought in the revolutionary war before she was born but died in 1799. In 1811 her mother, Ann Herbert Wilkinson, moved their family to Mississippi but died soon after in 1812 making Jane an orphan at age 14.
Should Mr. Rochester have divorced Bertha Mason. This is a very complex question as it seems that Mr. Rochester wants to get a divorce, but he can’t ever bring himself to get a divorce. Another reason why he may have not been able to divorce her was because of the time it took place. As this book takes place in the 1800s, it wasn’t until after the 1857 Matrimonial Causes Act, which was passed 10 years after Jane Eyre, that divorces became more common and less frowned upon. Divorce nowadays though due to mental illness is not all that common.

Author, Laurie Halse Anderson explains the struggle of being the high school outcast through character Melinda Sordino. Anderson uses Melinda 's evolving tree artwork to symbolize past calamities in Melinda 's life, as well as how Melinda is growing as a character throughout her freshman year of high school. While Melinda is struggling most, she struggles with finishing her trees the way that she wants them to look.
I had the pleasure of doing my report on none other than the wonderful Kirk Whalum. As I was doing my research, I was able to learn about his life, work and accomplishments. Kirk Whalum is a musician, and songwriter that was born on July 11, 1958 in Memphis, Tennessee. As a young boy he began playing in his father's church choir. Others may think that that’s where he started to love music, but in actuality, he discovered his love for music from his grandmother, and two uncles, who performed with jazz bands around the country.
