Writing gives you the ability to express yourself in ways that talking could not. From a young age, I loved to write. Writing acted as a scapegoat to me. It allowed me to vanish from reality. It gave me the ability to get in touch with my inner thoughts. As little kids, we would draw scribbles with pen and paper, and around the age five or six, we start to learn how to read and write letters. As a child, I never thought about the importance of writing. It never crossed my mind that I was learning something that will greatly affect me in the future. The idea of being able to jot down some of my thoughts on a piece of paper amazed me. A year later, I started writing sentences, which eventually turned into paragraphs, and finally, around fifth grade, I was able to write an essay. The …show more content…
Writing allowed me to be able to release all of my inner thoughts on to a piece of paper. Starting at a young age, I loved writing. I loved that writing allowed me to be able to put all the feelings and thoughts that were flowing through my head onto a piece of paper. Growing up, my love for writing began to fade. All this love that once appeared in my writing, gone. It disappeared. Then in seventh grade, I started to hate writing, it felt more like a task then as to express my thoughts and feelings. In eighth grade, I was afraid of people judging my paper. I started to feel that no matter how much time and effort I put in my writing will never good enough. When I was younger I wanted to become a writer for a while. I wrote a short story when I was in the fourth grade. I remember my teacher telling me it wasn’t good that it was terrible. She also had said that I had a good story but the writing wasn’t well. But I was only nine , and since then I always believe I am not a good writer
The desire to change and inspire is a part of most people; sometimes it is because of our natural selfishness, and other times it is because we truly care for others and their ideas. The power of words is compelling; not because it forces you to do something, but because it forces you to think of something. Writing is the ultimate messenger, and it is a skill that some spend their lives perfecting. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail” was written from a solitary cell in Birmingham, Alabama. He had been arrested while participating in a peaceful anti-segregation march in 1963.
Why do people write? Why is it that we share our thoughts, opinions, advises, stories and experiences through the written word, and why don’t we just transmit all of this by word of mouth? Aside from the purpose of saving information or knowledge on paper, we end up expressing our selves via written words more strongly and accurately than we do verbally. You can come to know people better through reading their work, this is because you cannot lie to that piece of paper in front of you and well why should you?
I should have been opened up my eyes to reading and writing because I want to be a teacher, assistant. I always liked working with kids, and I will like to be a great assistant. Since there's no way to become a teacher assistant or even a teacher without having reading and writing skills, I will have to read and write more often. It is like King says "If you want to be a writer, you must do to things above all others: Read a lot and write a lot" (72, 73). If I want to be a teacher assistant or maybe a teacher one day I must ameliorate my reading and writing.

Reflective Portfolio Letter Dear, Members of the First Year Writing Assessment Committee, In my past years of writing I have seen myself develop into a well disciplined and patient writer. However, I have seen myself significantly improve and mature as a writer over the past few months more than I have in the past four years. I view writing as an open doorway full of ideas, feelings, and thoughts weaved together simply for creating a masterpiece. As I began the journey of returning to school, one of my biggest fears, was the writing aspect in the classes. The fear of reading and writing has never been a strong quality; however, I have never able to successfully be creative in the way I learn. I understand my weaknesses and when I need to focus on my strengths. I am constantly learning new ways, skills, and tools to utilize to continue to grow as a writer. Focusing on my strengths allows me to have the security that I can be a good writer.
Writing is extremely comforting to me, I even find it therapeutic. As a young writer, I would write short stories on silly ideas like puppies or flowers because I enjoyed that. As I progressed through middle school, I picked up different styles of writing by reading books from various authors. The more styles of writing that I read, the more I wrote. I used to write about fictional characters and subjects.
The above definitions subtly bring us closer to the importance of creative writing as it denotes human experiences throughout the ages, enabling us to cross geographical and cultural barriers. It illustrates what is common and shared among different peoples and cultures. It also enriches our human conscience by encouraging feelings of empathy and kindness. In short, I strongly believe creative writing is the essence of being human. In addition, creative writing has long been a form of refined entertainment and fun, for both writers and readers.
